If this a Linux server he could look into QOS/Fair Queuing, however this would require a lot of research and testing to find the right setup, and maybe even a kernel recompile depending on the distro.
If the hosting service had a problem with excessive bandwidth usage, I don't know why they didn't throttle port 80 at the routers.
Yes! I see it now. An army of ED-209s marching into Iraq controlled by 15 year old kids blasting everybody in their path with chainguns and speakers saying, "Hahahahahah! You are so owned!"
You can thank the insurance companies for that. Other casualties of those vampires: your precious MR2, the 300ZX, and eventually the GM F-bodies (Camaro and Firebird).
Actually, most rear wheel drive cars sold in the US are no longer available because manufacturers want to make more huge rediculous gas guzzeling SUVs. Also Mustangs outsold BOTH GM F-bodies combined, despite Camaros and Firebirds being a few thousand $ cheaper didn't help them much either. I'd be very happy if the insurance companies could kill SUVs, but they simply don't have enough influence.
I hate to feed a troll and be off topic, but it annoys me that people see no reason for record companies.
If my opinion sounds like a troll, it's because you fail to see the big picture. The record industry and broadcast radio are obsolete for 2 reasons:
1. With this new fangled "Intarweb" thingy, anyone can distribute their own content, whether it be music, text, or software, via subscription or free.
2. Most people these days can decide for themselves what they like from the thousands, if not millions of choices given to them on the Web, with or without the RIAA's blessing.
It's not offtopic either, I'm merely stating facts.
They're an amazing shit filter, the public does NOT want to be inundated with unfiltered bands.
Oh really? Well, you may have a point. With the quality of radio out today, I'd hate to think it could be worse. But y'know what? How about we decide what we can listen to, and let the vultur^H^H^H^H^H^Hproducers get a real job and earn their money instead of pretending to provide some useful service.
I would have no problem with the record industry if they were interested in distributing good music, but they're not. They're an industry, not just dedicated to making money, but obsessed with squeezing every last penny out of everything they can get they greasy hands on, and when something threatens that cash flow, they attack like a cornered rat desperate for survival.
I thought rocket launchers were the flavor of the week to whinge about.
Nah, that was back in the original Quake. I hated RL and quad whores in Q1, especially when they'd finally get fragged, lose the map, then blame someone else for "Stealing their pack". The weapon balance got much better in Q2 and Q3.
E)You're still legally responsible for what your computer does.
This probably doesn't apply in the US, but some clown in England got one over on the courts by saying the kiddie porn on his machine was aquired by a trojan. It was a/. story not too long ago. I forgot the details of the case, but it seemed like a rediculous excuse to me.
While it is possible for someone to backdoor a machine and set up an ftp server, if there was any evidence that the owner was viewing and/or editing the files, it should show up somewhere. Web browsers will maintain a cache and history, photo viewers usually create thumbnails, and some text editors will usually create a backup somewhere, not to mention the "Recent Documents" in 9x/ME/2K/XP systems.
I'm interested in how you know if you've been $rtbl'd. I have Excellent karma and get to metamoderate daily, but I swear I haven't gotten to moderate in over six months.
Mere mortals will never know for sure, but it sounds like you were blacklisted. I got mod points on an almost weekly basis up until about 2 or 3 months ago. I don't post as often as I used to, nor I don't get modded up as much anymore, but I do have several +4s and 5s over the past couple months, yet the mod points just stopped coming.
You can even, if you have mod points, change the rating of a given post.
True, but if the thread is flagged by the editors as a troll, you will lose your mod points and never be able to moderate again. It's called $rtbl, or "Real Time BlackList". Flamebaits and crapfloods may be blatantly obvious targets, but there are some crafty trolls that generate a lot of comments where you won't know what's troll and what's not.
My point is this: it up to the editors and fanboys what is insightful, and what is crapflood. Joe_User has very little control over what they see here. Sure, setting your preference to -1 will let you see everything, but try finding the rare gem among the crapfloods and goatse links. Yes, they do occur, because moderation abuse is rampant, particularly among anti Debian and Gentoo posts. Browse the next Debian or Gentoo story at -1 and observe every post critical of those two distros wind up in the shitter, no matter how interesting they may be.
I'll probably get modded down for this, but WTF, I'm $rtbled anyway.
It's true that Warner Bros. has numerous properties upon which future games could be based. But considering that the studio has already sold off the rights to many of its high-profile franchises--the Harry Potter and the Loony Tunes movies have been sold to EA; the Matrix rights to Atari; the Batman animated series and Matrix massively multiplayer rights to Ubisoft; the Justice League animated series to Midway--it's unclear to me which blockbuster properties remain for Warners' new interactive group to exploit.
It looks like the only thing they have left is that yellow AOL guy.
Sure, but assuming you've done something like I've done (try to switch several amps through a 2N2222 rated at.8 amps) isn't exactly considered "Solid State".
Italians: No good, too many Mafia stereotypes already French: Nah, everyone hates them already. Spanish: Nobody would expect... Russians: Same as Italians. Germans: Jawohl, sehr gut! Uberprufen Sie aus meinem neuen BMW! Bummsen Mal Wieder! Die Weibchen lieben es!
We had this problem at my school, except with a PowerBook G4. I believe the strain relief on the plug failed, and somehow allowed the wires to short. Apple tech support insisted the laptop was dropped or something was stuck in the jack, but the Lead Tech at my school is a serious ballbuster and was able to get a new adapter within a few days.

What's even better is a misbehaving laptop; pull the plug, then flip it over and yank the battery.
Add alcoholic beverages and I'll be your first lifetime subscriber.

Why postpone the inevitable? Let the industry die.
Ensuring that routers drop invalid packets will only stop DOS issues. Routers only check IP headers, not SMTP headers.

That's what condoms are for: they're used to prevent having to replace our equipment, though I wouldn't mind having mine replaced with a larger model.

Well, that changes everything. I take everything Mark "Subscription Whore" Surfas tells me as prophecy.

YOU'VE GOT AMMO!
AAC belongs to the same guys that made mp3, the Fraunhofer Institute.
BSD face with the Microsoft booty.

No, this is.
Reagan tried this, and failed. How easily people forget.
I forgot, how did Reagan fail again? The Soviet Union is gone, and USA is still here. Am I missing something?
I'd like something to do after completing the game 100% and getting 200 health, 200 armor, infinite ammo, and double damage on the cars.
Then, of course, you wouldn't be at 100% completion. Maybe have the game start over from day 1 with all your new goodies?
Or just have the kids hanging out in front of the arcades, and when you walk by, they steal money from you, go play games, then run out and pillage.
I say we have a poll!
Italians: No good, too many Mafia stereotypes already
French: Nah, everyone hates them already.
Spanish: Nobody would expect...
Russians: Same as Italians.
Japanese: They never apologized for WWII
Chinese: Then who will make the consoles to play it on?

How was the parent offtopic? Holding down the shift key prevents some CDs from running copy protection software.
