...having the Sync app automatically put the space saving lower bitrate file on the portable! Sweet. Of course, iPod'ers with 20 gig drives wouldn't lose sleep over it, but anyone with a Palm T or Sony NVxx would LOVE this.
...then make the base nice and small. And give me a flat screen. Maybe wide-screen format! Yeah! And add a nice gui, and some good usable apps for chat, DVD burning, mail, some web services, music... uh... wait... nevermind.
No, I don't, as of yet, want to use this product. I have no interest in remote home automation. But I do think it's cool and people will turn it into interesting things.
AND THIS IS THE KICKER!!! Once people are using stuff like this, then cable companies must be forced to change their policies to allow servers. Think about it! If the middle-class masses all want to use this to control home security, lights, etc, then the cable company would have to allow a major desire of millions of people to be allowed. Well, not "forced" to, but it's a shot. So anything that needs servers running in the house over broadband gets a vote "yes" from me.
If someone is found guilty of pirating warez, lates say Windoze XP... should the company value its "loss" at the retail level, the fair market value, or the cost of production? All said and done, if a company found guilty of abusing it's monopolistic powers, which also pads its prices with monopoly rent, should the courts normalize the value of said companies goods when the value must be assertained?
Before consulting in other areas, as someone who worked as a developer focusing on User Inferfaces, and having studied Human Factors and Usability guidlines and best practices, I can safely say that the best way to make an interface more usable and better for the end user is to give it a bright green "Start" button and a rolling hill background. That's all you need to do.
...didn't they slow down out clocks 1 second at New Years eve? That would mean December 4th is approaching something around 1/365.25 of a second faster per day.
Only a very small percent (perhaps 1% of the population) pirate enough music to fill an entire CD.
What planet are YOU living on? What's your source? Where is the link to you source for that little statistic?
Instead of making shit up, load up Kazaa and look at how many files are being shared. It's not all Chicken Pot Pie recipes. There is a big problem that needs a big fix. But whatever the fix is, it better involve letting people put their music where they want, when they want, or my wallet shall remain closed.
...if you've read some of my previous drooling dribble of delights! Here goes, full flame throttles on, sarcastic witt with a touch of intelagince and speling turned off:
Tina Turner
Are they fscking serious? How about Ms. R0$3n comes over my house, makes me a sandwich, _______ me and then I give her $19.99? Sound good?
the reality of today's market is that most people (at least in the US) gain exposure to music by listening to the radio, and movies by viewing big-budget advertising (television, newspaper, billboards, etc).
WHICH IS EXACTLY THE PROBLEM!!!!!! Shaggy-Boom-Bastic(TM) was discovered because he put himself on Napster. Lucky him that radio stations in Hawayii and Calif not 100% pure on the inside payola system actually played what they wanted to. For many, many, many artists, they can't get ANY exposure unless some fat exec wants to make them a "star". It's Brittney or bust these days. If the RIAA et. al. wasn't so controlling, we would have a much better choice of music.
In regards to "us" vs. "them" it IS that way. "They" want to control your PC (DRM, Palladium, Bill in congress to allow DoS'ing your box), your livingroom (can't copy DVD's you own, fair use out the window, 2006 digital TV will have DRM built into all broadcasts, SuperCD's disable digital out), disolving DVD disks, CD's that crash Macs and don't burn in my PC... is the picture starting to become a little more clear? Anyone who says, after I spend $20 on music, that I MUST BE FORCED to listen to it WHERE THEY SAY (Sony walkman player, or maybe my car, but NOT my computer, NOT my MP3 player, etc) is a criminal in my eyes.
So yes, it is US vs. THEM. I think tech-savvy slashdotters who remember the old days (when a CD was a CD and it didn't crash your computer or insist on installing Media Player) would agree.
...that when they do things like this, it proved that THEY HAVE LOST.
Stand back for a minute and look at the big picture. Take a breath, take a minute, and think about it. They encrypt their content and then store it on self destructing disks. HA! It's so pathetic it's funny. If there was ever an example of the dead horse (Rosen?) getting another whack (DMCA?) this is IT. They lost.
Imagine the munks, years ago, using disapearing ink in their scrolls so you didn't have time to read it long enough to place letters on a plate at a printing press! Same shit. Different day. "DISTRIBUTION" is dead. If any 5 year old can publish themselves WORLD WIDE 24/7, then the business of distrobution (of "information") is dead. Ever see a little kid make a homepage on AOL? They do... it ain't XHTML but it's there for the world to see 24/7. Tell me again why I need YOU to publish my info for ungodly sums of money? Tell me again why I should listen to one artist for one hour at a time on obsolete media?
Listen, this is ON topic, and just 'cause I'm not 733t in all areas doesn't mean I (other readers) are not interested! Help me! What would someone using Linux or Windoze use to get simialr security. With 802.11, what can I run on my box so my networking, web browsing, etc, is secure (as can be) between me and the AP. Ideally, we're talking open source solutions here. I'm not talking about securing my e-mail, but making things secure between me and the AP so I can have get an IP on my laptop, and use the network "normally" with encryption in the background over the air. Anyone? Anyone?
Hint Hint... :)
Talk about loving the Aqua skin! Now you can have Aqua Skin(TM).

WINGS FALL OFF (it happens). PARTS FALL OFF (it happens). ENGINE DIES, STRONG WIND CONDITIONS (it happens).
And in furture news, "Microsoft Found 'Not-Guilty' by EU."
