this could possibly be done by wiring up some colored neon tubes/LEDs, and coming up with a RS-232 or USB interface to control it via software and plug-ins.
but it has yet to be seen what Apple is trying to accomplish, but it will probably be pretty cool, but not incredibly useful like the candy colored plastic on the older iMacs, frankly I would care more about whats in the case than whats, and that's what separates me from average consumers.
according to here, there are specific dates that do specific things(there are other cool things about ROTT listed there too.)
If you play ROTT when your system clock
indicates that it's one of five different holidays, the "group picture"
of the five main characters is changed slightly. In addition, on Christmas,
the music for the first level is changed to a familiar Christmas tune.
The holidays and effects are as follows:
Easter (date varies) - Lorelei Ni wears
Easter Bunny ears.
Cinco de Mayo (May 5th) - Ian wears
a sombrero.
Independence Day (July 4th) - Doug
holds an American flag.
Halloween (October 31st) - Thi wears
a witch's hat.
Christmas (December 24th) - Taradino
wears a Santa Claus hat, on December 25th, new music plays in the first
level the first level.
Also, there's a way to get all five
"holiday hats" in Rise of the Triad to show up on the screen
at the same time. If you finish the game the right way, and destroy all
the larvae in the last level, watch ALL the credits (takes several minutes).
You'll get to a screen that says "The HUNT is victorious. The End."
Do nothing. Let it sit there for about a minute or two, and you'll get
another "The End" screen where all five "holiday hats"
are shown at once.
keep in mind that the G4 case only offers two 5 1/2 bays one of which is used by the CD-ROM. Some people actually want to put in a more than two devices like a zip drive, a burner, removable hard drive rails, etc.
I am left wondering if there was enough demand to put Mac parts in a standard PC case; would it be possible to convince a case manufacturer like Antec to make a case that all the standoffs, and the USB/FiWi/Ethernet holes in the right places to match a typical G4 layout.
Also what is needed is a ATX power supply adapter and a case LED/button button converter
It's possible, but would a case manufacturer go for it?
They don't need to. This wouldn't have come up if a.) SW II wasn't a huge movie and b.) GL didn't have 3 cubic acres of money.
I'm pretty sure the credits in Independence Day didn't include the architect of the White House.
That's a very good point, assumming that public or possibly private building like the White House are made from mock-ups rather than on loacation, does credit need to be given?
Often the movie makers credit the sites that were filmed at, but don't credit loacations created in a studio, or by CG op.
And besides, when was the last time you paid very close attention to the credits anyway?
That is especially possible if they put a WiFi card into the computer.
Just think, with wireless you could flame the car that just cut you off by looking up his plate#, but the only downside would be if those sleazy marketers start sending advertisements as pop-ups
If enough people are doing this, why can't Apple just sell G4 Motherboards that fit perfectly into a ATX case. Of course this will be aimed at the hobbyest, and hardcore Mac user market
it could use a standard ATX power supply
USB fits in the USB spot, Firewire goes in the serial spot and sound fits sound or include a custom back plate
have a AMR style modem and Network card
sell at a fairly low cost with a bit of a premium, like say $300-$400 with CPU
But the slashdot poll says that 32% of people use Linux as their main operating system and only 15% use Mac OS! Are you accusing the polling of being unscientific and inaccurate??
Ah, but consider Slashdots demographics; It comes as no surprise that Linux beat out Apple in the poll, now if this were an Apple centric site, what would the results be?
The final frontier.
Consider how big our own galaxy is, and imagine a beowolf cluster of 'em, how long it would take to explore it let alone conquer it?
or how about 'CmdrTaco and the Slashdotters'?
is that having a blue screen was considfered a good thing.
You don't need a window or anything, I would just reccomend a cool paint job with the c64 two tone bluescreen colors.

Reminds of the cheat code to enable excessive ludicrous gibs:
after enabling the cheatcodes with dipstick, type in \EKG
you now have really messy ludicrous gibs with every missie kill!

That we will soon be slashdotting Linux enabled phones in the near future?
It wouln't surprise me if credits are shortened down and a web address is added to the end saying:
"for a full list see this web address: http://bigbuxmovie.com/credits

hmmmmmm....
Servers, yes but desktops I'd say no

Isn't that what Star Trek, Red Dwarf, and Star Wars is for?
I doubt anybody would get the names Mozilla and Godzilla confused
