  1. What I find disturbing... on Studying the Plague in WoW · · Score: 1

Peoples reaction to the plague in World of Warcraft were remarkable realistic... Some decided that once they were infected, I really don't care anymore about anyone else, I'm going to teleport in the game to a crowed urban center and infect as many people as I can.

So are people now so self centered that now that they know they are going to die they're thinking "If I'm going down then you are all coming down with me?" Is this really how people think? It's a very sad world we live in.

But not anymore. The Media and Entertainment is porting their apps from Unix to Linux, often with no intention to port to Windows. Even Toxik is getting the Linux treatment as we speak. And Toxik runs on top of an Oracle database, which is a direct competitor to Microsoft.

Yeah but... Windows Media 9 is one of the official codecs for HD-DVD. So they do care. But WM9 is ALSO an official codec for Blu-Ray. So whoever loses, they win.

  7. Re:"Consumers" won't upgrade anyways on Microsoft, Intel back HD DVD over Blu-ray · · Score: 1

HDDVDs are supposed to be backward readable with existing DVD players, meaning DVD players can read HDDVDs if they store the movie in both formats. I bet the first two layers of HDDVDs are regular DVD layers and then the following layers are read using a special laser. Much better than what Sony is coming up with. Movie studios can then start making HDDVDs with both versions of the movie on it and the consumer who wants better image quality will only have to upgrade it's DVD player. It's a win-win scenario for them. Unless you consider people who buy the normal and then HD version of movies, then in that case they might be losing money.

I was hoping Blu-Ray would be the next standard, but after reading this backward compatibility layer for HDDVDs, I'm more interrested in HDDVD's than before.

  8. On men portraing women on Five Ways To Save Video Games · · Score: 1

... I remember reading an article with Itakagi, the creator of the Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive series. He talked about the beach volleyball game they made. He said that the artists who came up with the skimpiest were the women on the team and not the men. Makes you wonder what the women who make 3d models and textures think of all this. They don't seem to care, at least in Team Ninja's case.

On average, men prefer slim women with D-sized breasts. Women prefer guys with musculature. Looking at ads and movies just proves the point. We are shown what we like. If we didn't like it, we wouldn't watch it. It's no wonder games are doing the same thing.

If the Xbox didn't have good games and a good track record in the heart of gamers, it wouldn't be a brand.

The fact that it comes from Microsoft and that they have a lot of money has nothing to do with it. What made the Playstation brand popular is by getting exclusive support from Square and a few other companies (via shelling out a few millions), people bought the Playstation in masses and the rest is history.

Bad products sometimes have an incredible brand (See Canon Powershot G4), good products can have good brands (all the iPod line), but I can't think of a single good product that has a bad brand.

Actually, I know one. The Xbox. Great product, but the Microsoft name attached to it make some people itchy.

Let's see my stack of Xbox game...
Halo, Amped, KOTOR, Beyond Good and Evil,
Max Payne 2, Serious Sam, Burnout 3, Phantom Dust, Ninja Gaiden and LOTR : Third Age.

Of all those games, only 2 are sequels. (You could argue that Ninja Gaiden is a sequel, but the previous game was released more than 10 years ago and is drastically different).

Who said you couldn't be a gamer (especially an xbox gamer) and have non-sequel games?
