I remember when the Saatchi fire happened, and with all the damaged caused... I wondered if the firefighters had put out the fire, walked around to inspect the mess and for one of them to say "But is it art?". That thought makes me chuckle everytime.
I like where they say they are still trying to clear the character name through legal channels... if you read between the lines kinda thing (or then again, maybe not)
They had a Paypal donation system to raise 7500 euros for new server equipment, and they disabled the user comments pages when the appeal first went up (i.e. peeps just wondering 'where' the money was going, etc etc).
I think they finally hit around 7150 euros a week or two ago, although they'd purchased the new hardware 2 weeks before that... and all that newly purchased equipment is now in the hand of the police, what timing!
I thought this reminded me of something, along with a quick Google search here it is:
(Bashir tells the story of the boy who cried "Wolf") Bashir: If you lie all the time, no one is going to believe you, even when you're telling the truth. Garak: Are you sure that's the point, Doctor? Bashir: Of course. What else would it be? Garak: That you should never tell the same lie twice.
Just a thought on the kickbacks point you raised... most of the anti-spyware vendors have gone (and probably still) through having threats and crap levelled their way from the spy/mal/crap-ware vendors and affiliates. With the type of treatment they've had, and the thickening of skin because of it, as well as the more positive feedback from users who have finally had control of their own computer handed back to them... wouldn't this give them a bit more immunity from the kickbacks issue? Even if they were offered with a buy out, enough blood sweat and tears have gone into the development to make them care enough for the future of their product and the kudos they've built up in creating it.
And also, apart from the clicky-happy-don't-read-warning-signs user (which would coincide with your 3rd point) there are plenty of warning signs for installing the anti-spyware apps that it will break spyware infested apps.... they've had the warnings and must be running the anti-spyware apps for a reason, it's their choice.
Anyway, most of this is AFAIK and based on my experience with the 3 punch combo of AdAware, Spybot and SpywareBlaster (which connects into Spybot as well)... oh and FireFox too:-) and the Mike Skallas Host file, and the Firefox Adblock plugin....(ad infinitum)!
Even though RDA (hoho, we need a Recommended Daily Amount of Richard Dean Anderson in SG1) had a reduced schedule for season 8, I feel he has had a much better presence since the promotion... mind that may be due in part that all his filming is done on the main set.
Even if there are cast changes for season 9, I think the Stargate series has developed such a strong mythology and sheer amount of storylines that it could keep goign for a while longer. Plus, I'm extra happy that they aren't permenantly stranding the Atlantis team... and looking forward to seeing the Daedalus and Atlantis showdown with the Wraith hive ships. w00t! indeed!:-)
Yes, but that area of SlashDot with bathe you in a horrible brownish light... a time that geeks have come to fear (along with manual culling of the url in the address bar).
Thanks to the google cache... about two thirds down the page posted by "Jesper T". Had to use the cache because the direct link to my original search came back with a resource denied (original google search text: "Western in space. Kinda campy but did have its moments. Very memorable characters. Fanbase: Big enough to get a few movies going after its cancelation. Noteworthy:").
AFAIK they were sued by Activision, although I haven't followed up on it recently (i.e. if the suit is still active)... I think it was concerning the dilution of the franchise by The Powers That Be... a bit rich considering the amount of crap Star Trek games that Activision themselves put out.
My brothers Optimum Online broadband connection speed tests show it to be a 5Mbit down, and 512Kbit up... that is for Norwalk in CT. I don't know if the speeds vary region to region, but that is for the standard residential service... I think the business service goes up to 10Mbit.
Most of this is AFAIK, because I'm posting this from a standard 512/256 broadband connection in the UK... if you think the USA is a broadband backwater, think what it is like over here!
The problem is also people who share their entire hard drive contents... email inbox files anyone?
When I used to use Kazaa, I deliberately left two text files in my share directory called 'mastercard details.txt' and 'visa card details.txt', with some colourful language contained within (so they weren't zero byte size)... not surprisingly I got quite a few downloads too! plus I got the satisfaction of them reading my little message (maybe I should have given them some goatse ascii art!).
Glad you directly 'quoted' Reuters there, and not the Associated Press.
Who knows what kind of charges you might have incurred?
:-P
Tell you what, look near Dover... there is the "road" to nowhere in the English Channel! :-D
Maybe the next story will be /. announcing that there'll be no more dupes :-D
All we need is a print of Strawberry Shortcake in all her naughtiness and the book would be complete :-)
Infiniband welcomes careful drivers.
:-D
My is that a big antenna, or are you just pleased to see me?
;-), not checked to see if someone else posted, but hey ho.
Frell off. :-P

Naa, the blur is there to make the planet look artificially younger... you know, iron out all those wrinkles and signs of its real age. ;-)

Imagine that, embed the processors into the radiators! If the house is getting a little cold, you know you need to turn on the SETI screensavers!

To join that 'elite' group you need to insert another 3 in the middle.

Keep your lies consistent too.

Well, they've a few weeks in which they could run a new 'homely feel' site about plumbing:
www.iloveleaks.com
Yummm. Usss likessses ittt.

And they'll create their own mobile ring tunes just to rub it in.

Although the swivel base kept turning the display unit around in circles.

I RTA earlier, but IIRC Radio 2 is the most listened to radio station in the UK, not Radio 1.
Yes I know, nitpick alert... but the subject matter is relating to chart positions :-)
