I drink a lot of green tea instead of regular tea (it's odd being a Brit how doesn't drink the national favourite, although I make up for that with beer)... but Twinings now do a Earl Grey Green Tea and it is really good.
And I spent about ten minutes writing this little crappy masterpiece and the story disappeared... mind you still have the sucessful story submission though:-)

Don't worry, you just participated in what I'd like to call a SDDE or "SlashDot Dupe Effect"... almost mirroring its distant cousin the "SlashDot Effect" in its overall actions.
As commonly known, the SlashDot Effect (SDE) will bring webservers to their knees depending on their capacity and bandwidth. Other, less fortunate webservers start pluming out smoke if the cooling system isn't adequate enough.
The SDDE is similar, in that multiple story submissions to the SlashDot Editors (also SDE, need another name then) will cause a brain overload... the effect can be so bad that the editor turns into a gibbering wreck and is unable to browse the story archives, mainly for fear of correlating story submitted usernames into usernames that also contributed to turning the said editor into a gibbering wreck (i.e. the confusion can be felt when trying to comprehend that previous sentence). The only solution to the gibbering wreck affliction is an immediate posting of the story, followed by opening the nearest refrigerator door and sticking their head in for 5 minutes... maybe Zalman should make refridgerators, now that is an idea! Although I wouldn't fancy applying thermal paste to the overheating areas of a/. editor!
Another author for ya: Greg Egan. I never got to finish Quarantine, but good science fiction like his tries to make you think 'outside of the box' compared to your usual spaceship/futuristic fare.
Mind, I don't read many books for fun... the last book I actually bought with the Butlerian Jihad, got halfway through it before I realised the Dune Prelude series was a pile of steaming crap.
My brother went over to Vonage a couple of months ago, and the sheer audio quality is brilliant... especially on trans Atlantic calls (back here to the UK).
Mind, him having a 5Mbit Optimum Online account probably helps avoid any latency/speed issues (unless the systems goes down).
After an 'Ask Slashdot' a while back asking for the first apps you put on a Windows system.. I had ZoneAlarm in there, until someone suggested that I try Kerio. I've been a Kerio user ever since. The only issue I've found is that if you have a load of connections and the Low Rated intrusions are written to the log file, the GUI will slow right down and crash.
The best thing about Kerio is the ability to keep track of rogue componants trying to activate other componants and other programs, whereas that was only available in ZA Pro. I also love the Ad Blocking/filtering. I recently installed ZA for someone who'd just got DSL, and noticed a big overhaul in options from the previous version. But I never really looked into what ZoneLabs have done with it because I'm a happy Kerio user. ZoneAlarm is good enough for Joe User (after doing some initial setup first).
Mind, I installed SP2... and it doesn't have Kerio on it's 3rd party firewall list, so it'll activate its own (which promptly got disabled by moi).
That should be setup as a community site that deals with people who have the unfortunate accident falling down a well or an open manhole, not to be confused with the former fallwell.com kind of manhole:-)
If Jerry decided to go after that one then he might not have a leg to stand on (especially if he had fallen down a well and lost a leg in the process).
That this solid state memory doesn't suffer from the non-sequential write issues that current flash media has (AFAIK).
Added to that, I remember reading about a Cambridge university division developing their own solid state memory (don't have the details to hand, but AFAIK IBM invested money into them), point is they were estimating 2TB for a credit card sized media.
When the ucard (or whatever they call it) goes into "Mass Production", I wonder what the price ranges are and just how much they will produce. If the media is affordable (and it works as promised), they have a chance to wipe the floor with the entire industry!
Mind, the problem with this media, no matter who much of a data hoarder you are (like me), you'll find ways to fill it. But if the media is reliable enough, I wonder what backup solutions coming out of this?
To be honest, most of the tech orientated net could take pre-emptive action and just stop linking to them at all... pretend they don't exist, less linkage and (maybe) less visitors.
Naa, he was advised by doctors to use wireless networking on his notebook...then they don't have to do any radiotherapy treatments, cos the laptop will do it for him
*ducks.
In all seriousness though, he is very lucky to have caught it early. My uncle died from lymphatic cancer last year (caught too late), pretty nasty all round and he certainly suffered.. plus a friend was diagnosed with breast cancer last week. Not fun at all.
He he, it's about time they try and patent 'Dodgy Business Practices' and 'Being a Monopoly'...
At least they'll be part of the prior art on those points. Plus, If they did ever patent those, then they could sue any other company that misbehaves (almost like an immoral moral guardian).
After seeing your Bony quote, I thought 'what about the m'?, now I have Boney M in my mind and the plethora of crap tunes now in my head... Rivers of bloody Babylon indeed.
Heres one for you, and with any luck you'll get it stuck in your mind tonight:
Brown girl in the ring, tra la la la la.
Now I'm off to listen to some NIN at a nice loud volume to purge the scourge of 70's pop/disco/whatever.:-(
I wonder what to 'lovely' people at Infinium Labs (why "Infinium" hasn't sued because of the name I've no idea) will think to that... a few upgrades later and you add broadband content (etc etc), mind the price gap makes the initial difference.
Plus, if the big companies decided to start doing the console PC thing (where the cheaper prices will kick in), the market might get a little crowded.... and in light of IL's slight issues of pissing off the gamers they were appealing to in the first place (the the lawsuit with [H]ard|OCP, where an anonymous donor has just recently given a substantial donation to prop up Kyles legal fund) I'm wondering as to how they think they might survive in such an industry.
Plus for added stupidity, the mother-in-law also has Parkinsons disease, so I can't imagine her keeping it in a straight line!
The Register interviewed Dominic and Benoit Schillings a couple of years ago and is a very good read.
So THAT'S how they counted the Florida ballets!

The password is probably 'ATI' ;-)
Very good comment!
And in the same vein, I'd be more worried if the alert went to #663300...
..that's when it is time to get a fresh set of underwear and trousers ;-)
Enough said really... striking up a friendship or rapport with someone is the best ice breaker ever.

Saved the mod points for a comment (plus you're maxed out now)... thanks, you've really given me a good laugh tonight! :-)
Although when I saw the image, is it me or does she have a distinct similarity to Mr StayPuft...
...food for thought (pun intended).

Food for thought I suppose.
Naa, most of them had to be dumped because they were broken from overuse.
The rest might have appeared in the "Let it Snow" Heineken advert. :-)
