On the Xbox, each disc has a signature which the Xbox must verify before it'll allow it to boot. If you look back in last week's archives, the Xbox Linux team had written a letter to Microsoft asking them to sign Xbox Linux so it could boot without a modchip.
I usually am invited to attend any school events where parents and kids from outside the school show up so that I can help run the Computer Science displays. Every event that I've been to, I've always run a Linux display and people typically seem interested in it. At one of least year's events, this kid kept asking me questions about Linux and he seemed enthralled about it. He's a Freshman in my school this year, and I asked him if he was still interested in Linux. He replied that he was, and that he actually dual-boots Linux alongside of Windows, and that's only because his mom still uses Windows. I may have converted only gotten one person to switch to Linux, but the more the merrier.
Actually, there was something like this developed for PS2, though it wasn't made using the Linux kit. It's called the PS2Reality Media Player, which you can find here (warning: Site is in Spanish). Right now it only handles DIVX, but further developments are being made upon it. Also, you need a modchip in order to boot it, unless you're into the whole swap trick scene. Peace.
Ah, but it's already been said that Doom 3 won't be like the previous Dooms, so whether or not he's played the first two has nothing to do with it. Unless of course, John Carmack pulls a 180 and returns to the old style, which probably won't happen.
Actually, it's already been announced that you will not have to pay extra to play PSO. However, if you should so desire to download any extras or such, they can and probably will charge extra for those.
Except the target age of a platform has nothing to do with whether or not it will be hacked.
The Nintendo 64 was aimed at a younger group, and was there a way to backup games? Yep.
Gameboy Advance? Yep.
Gamecube? There will be eventually, there's no doubt about that.
Ah yes, but the PC-BioXX that Lik-Sang sold also excluded a BIOS. Considering that Easybuy2000 also sells PS2 modchips and the like, I wouldn't be surprised if the three companies triple-teamed them as well.
I don't ever remember Eminem shouting the "n" word on ANY of his songs. I believe those lyrics belong to Ja Rule. Furthermore, as previously mentioned, Wal-mart sells censored versions of albums... what a terrible misfortune when I unknowingly bought an album there, only to hear words bleep'd out.
I believe I've seen this notice before, from the very same site. They were linked at Slashdot for doing a comparison between cd-burners (or something similar), if I remember correctly.
If you would've read the comments at the bottom, perhaps you would've caught this tidbit:
ya'll should check out http://boomeranggames.com/ it is the netflix of video game rentals, cuz it was started by netflix. a buddy of mine has it and it's proved as reliable as the netflix service
There was also this comment...
Another good site is http://www.getanygame.com . I'm using this service now and am pretty happy with the game turnaround time.
If I remember correctly, Jason X came out in the UK some time before it came out in the US. That would be a plausible explanation as to why it hit the net a few months early.
I would've loved to call in to conversate with Donahue about this issue. I'm sure he would've loved to hear how I'm a fifteen year old male who has been playing video games (violent or not) for twelve or so years now. I've played every game in the Mortal Kombat series (including the subpar "Mythologies" sidestory), and I've followed the Grand Theft Auto series since its inception. In fact, I eagerly anticipated the release of Grand Theft Auto 3 so I could finally blow a cop away in three-dimensions. So why is it that I've yet to stab, shoot, or otherwise maim someone?
Before I was even allowed to LOOK at Mortal Kombat in the arcade, my dad made sure that I was aware of the difference between video games and reality. I wonder if these so-called parents did the same?
This is no longer necessary providing that you have a modchip. A utility was released by a software development group that allows you to watch DVD movies (and possibly VCDs/SVCDs) on your Xbox sans dongle.
... AOL could do something right for once and put an end to world hunger. It's funny because it's stupid.

I read that one on Computer Stupidities a while ago.

Or "Antitrust."
