If I see a cap in the recycling bin at work I'll grab it out. People also know I'm saving them so they give them to me. Plus I drink a lot of mountain dew anyway so what the hell.
First, we need a better HTTP-friendly GUI protocol. HTML+DOM+JavaScript is awkward for business applications and forms. Those were generally designed for "e-brochures", and not business forms. XML candidates include XUL, XWT, SCGUI (my pet protocol), and others.
Backward compatibility isn't a big deal to me. I wonder how much a system sacrifices in order to be backward compatible. If they focused on playing only the new format games really well logic suggests that the end result would be a better game player for the newer games. Knowing this I wish companies would scrap backward-compatibility in favor of highest quality possible.
I own a GBA SP right now and would care less if the new Game Boy didn't play my old games. Because I'd be satisfied playing the new games on it. If I wanted to play the GBA games again, I'd bust out the GBA.
My beef with everyone trying to look like windows is there's no user interface innovation. The OS X doc and user experience is great - though it is nothing like the windows start menu.
If its linux, just call it linux. And look at that "Start" menu. Could they make it look any more like Windows. This here is a linux OS that is trying to look as much like linux as possible. I'll go back to my OS X box and not worry about it.
My favorite games of all time are the Super Mario games. The story sucks for mario - the princess is kidnapped and you, the plumber, must battle through the evil turtle / mushroom infested LSD world to rescue her.
Simple and concise. Mario is all about the game play. Timing your running, jumping, fireball shooting, etc.
Those Japanese Role playing games like FF bore me. They drag on and on about some stupid story. The game play involves walking around this boring ass vast map and when it comes time to fight you have to sit through the same graphics sequences every time you do a special move. B o r i n g.
I tried open office for Mac OS X. I generally don't like Microsoft and was looking for an open source alternative to office
Open office would be a nice product but it doesn't integrate well with OS X. You can't copy an image from one OS X program and paste it into Open office. That was my biggest problem. It would also be nice if it wouldn't rely on X11. It doesn't have to be an aqua app or anything but just run natively.
I ended up buying AppleWorks instead and it is great. much better than Office and obviously flows with OS X computing a lot better than Open Office.
As a side note I uninstalled the Microsoft Office Test drive that came with OS X long before the trial period expired.
It looks nice, but from a practical perspective -
The ipod is sitting vertically which would make it difficult to see the screen (not to mention, the tiny screen) when you are looking from above.
I have my 40 GB iPod in an angled holder in my car. It is nice to have the angle, but controlling the iPod while driving isn't that great. Especially if you have 7,000 songs and you want to get to a specific album. You have to make about 15 revolutions on the scrolley wheel to get even close to what you're looking for
It would be cool if there were a car stereo inteface made specifically for controlling the iPod in your car. Nice big screen, volume and track switching, etc. Could have a custom cable run from it to the iPod. you know, the audio / data controller plug thing. Kinda like the remote control that comes with the iPod (20 and 40 models) but way better.
I just bought a brand new PowerBook and got it yesterday. Being the good computer owner that I am, I of course ran the updates to get me up to speed. Damnit!

I refuse to install Real's player software on any of my computers for these reasons. It kind of sucks when I go to a site and Real Player is the only option for viewing their content. But I will not budge. Sometimes if I have time I send a letter to the webmaster requesting other formats (Like Quicktime) but usually I just get mad at Real and go about my business.
Sometimes I need to get back to a site I was at before but have no idea what the URL was. The browser history has helped me out several times to get back to the page. Given, it is not a regular activity occurring at most a couple of times a month. But it is a feature I occasionally use for things other than you have mentioned.
Not sure what you mean by "track the links they've visited in the past?" Are you picturing someone enter this information in a spreadsheet or something? I'm not thinking this is a common usage of the browser history.
So then why aren't their Desktop PCs and Laptops reasonably priced too? You could argue that you pay for what you get - so then are you saying that the Dell server is better than the Apple?
programming and computer stuff in general has become a lot less like a science or craft, and more like a factory job
Programming is nothing like a typical factory job. I assume you are referring to the manual labour positions where a person constantly repeats the same physical motions throughout the day. If you are half the programmer you claim to be this much would be obvious to you.
Programming is a craft but it is not really a science. If you went to a school where they taught you how to think logically, and write programs using whatever programming languages you aren't a computer scientist. You are a computer programmer. There is no shame in this and I am quite satisfied being a computer programmer by trade myself. Our craft is our compiled code.
To me, the title of computer scientist implies the application of the scientific method toward computing. This could be research and development of new hardware, new languages. You get the point.
And another thing. You didn't have to tell us you were 19 years old. This much was obvious upon reading your ranting, elitist, immature post.
Bad example. You know what happened? Microsoft and Netscape started making their own prioritary HTML tags and were pushing their own crap like crazy. Developers like us were given huge headaches trying to make websites that work with both browsers.
Now 'a days innovation is coming from Mozilla - not Netscape or IE.

My next pc purchase will most likely be a PowerBook even though my windows XP desktop machine runs great. I need a laptop and its my nature to be heavily in debt.
I can't view the webby page - my work version of net nanny (websense) dissallows the domain

Upon learning that the threat was actually a harmless video game, all of the FBI agents sheepishly pulled their pants up from around their ankles.
They then proceeded to bash the game because of all the harm it could cause in warping the children who play it.
E-machines, by the way, has a game system out too, so why not HP?
Or could it be because the people are getting their X-Boxes for free from the Mountain Dew Promotion? www.dewu.com
I've amassed 315 points, gaining on the 550 for an XBox.
Ok,
How about Java applets?
Have you ever played any of the Star Wars games for SNES? Those are impossible.

I own a GBA SP right now and would not care if the new Game Boy didn't play my old games.
You know what I meant. Though there is a double-negative in my correction and I'm not sure if that's kosher.
As I mentioned Here in the previous posting. The iPod was way to verticle before. Actually looks practical now.

I keep wanting to have an "address" bar of sorts where I can enter /Users/Me/Documents to get to my documents folder.
I meant windows.

Oh great. I'm still 250 some Mountain Dew points away from getting the original X Box.
