If you are honestly sacrificing most/all of your time with your significant other in order to play a video game then it would seem to me that your relationship was not that strong to begin with. You really should enjoy being in eachothers company more than it appears you do. Time to to have a serious talk with your spouse in my opinion.
The more Java programmers the schooling system churns out, the more work for us old-style programmers who know C and assembler.
...and as more new programmers are java/.net programmers, the more new applications are written in these languages, and the more obsolete assembler/vanilla C programmers become. There will always be legacy systems, but as the computing needs of the world grows, new applications are produced, and I assure you most new applications are not going to be COBOL or assembler applications.
From my experience as a programmer, I've never had to use anything beyond trigonometry in programming. Of course if you plan on doing scientific computing there would probably be a need for higher level calculus, but I would say 90% of the programming jobs out there make no use of it. A basic understanding of statistics can also be useful.
Now, thats for the actual programming. For being a CS major you will need to be pretty "good at math," whatever that means. I suppose it means be able to learn and have at least a passing interest in the subject. Binary logic is closely tied to what schools teach as "math" (algebra, calculus, set theory), so becoming familiar with these maths will prepare your brain to handle computing theory, which is why I suppose CS majors at my school (UCSB) had to take a lot of it.
Think of it as "Moore's Observation" instead. It wasn't meant to be a "Law" or a "Theory".
A law in science is loosely defined as an observation with consistent results. I can make a law that the sun rises in the morning, because that is what consistently happens. Moore's Law is definitely a law as it is based on consistent observations, but obviously not a theory which is a falsifiable hypothesis that has stood up to experimentation.
...and information wants to be, and will inevitaby end up being, free. That is a fact of life. The recording industry needs to understand this before they sink any more money into a useless cause. In todays world where any information can be digitized, and therefore copied, basing a business model on the scarcity of any kind of information (music in this case) will not, I repeat will not work. Musicians can make money off of live performances and distribute their music in a digital format for virtually nothing in terms of capital...which just leaves marketing as a needed skill that the recording industry can provide.
RIAA, WAKE UP, your business model is obsolete. Change it now or become irrelevant.
It is truly amazing the lengths to which someone will go to obtain something they didn't pay for. Some people say, "Well, I wouldn't have bought it anyways, so whats the difference?" to which I reply, "If you wouldn't have bought it, why would you go through so much trouble to copy it?"
I've read Snow Crash and Quicksilver and my opinion is that Stevenson has a very creative mind but isn't a terribly good writer. His dialog is laughable and his tendency for Tanantino-esque stylization is a huge turnoff for readers like me.
Aren't there laws about employers making employees work for no pay? The word slavery comes to mind...I don't care if its not manual labor, its still labor.
I'll preface by saying I am a professional programmer and fairly computer savy. Throughout the years I have tried to use linux, really tried. Everytime I install it and try to get into it, I inevitably end up digging through old usenet posts, spending hours on IRC, and tediously pouring through man pages and editing obscure scripts/config files in an attempt to get it working correctly...be it installing glx support, getting my sound card to work, or simply installing mozilla with readable fonts.
I install Windows and have NONE of these problems. Very very rarely do I need to even go to usenet to solve a problem. I spend enough time problem solving at work, I don't have hours upon hours at home to learn the complete inner workings of an operating system...and being a programmer I know the basics of how operating systems work which is 1000x what most other computer users know. I honestly could not give linux to ANY of my friends, who are university educated but aren't extremely technically competant, and expect them to do anything useful with it.
We analyse the anisotropy of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) in hyperbolic universes possessing a non-trivial topology with a fundamental cell having an infinitely long horn. The aim of this paper is twofold. On the one hand, we show that the horned topology does not lead to a flat spot in the CMB sky maps in the direction of the horn as stated in the literature. On the other hand, we demonstrate that a horned topology having a finite volume does explain the suppression of the lower multipoles in the CMB anisotropy as observed by COBE and WMAP.
infinitely much easier on your feet, knees and back.
Definitely. Swimming is better than both, though.
you can spend much more power, and you have more flexibility in choosing a suitable power level
Not sure what you mean. You can run as fast or slow as you want to. You can run hills or on a track. When I want to exert a lot of power, I'll run on dry sand at the beach.
you can cover a larger area so it's less boring
Huh? If its boring, find a new sport!
more flexibility in duration. Biking 8 hours a day is no problem for an untrained person, but running is.
Most runners can get in a workout in under an hour. A biker will need at least a couple hours. In my opinion, running is a much better use of your workout time.
you can carry some luggage easily (iPod, phone, gps, book to read while pausing, drinks)
Yes, this is true.
you don't need to wear silly clothing (although you certainly can)
I wasn't aware shorts and a tshirt were silly. And by the way, have you ever seen a group of cyclists? If you have, you'll know your above comment was hypocritical.
a modern bike is way more interesting technically than running shoes.
Thats true. I have a friend who is a triathelete and there is a definite dick size competition going on for who has the best wheels, aerobars, gears, pedals, etc. These people throw thousands of dollars a year into these bikes in order to save a few ounces. No thanks.
Don't get me wrong, i mean... i dig chicks, but I guess i just don't understand why women have to simultaneously prove that they're both equal and special
No woman ever claimed to be equal to a man, just as no man has ever laid claim to being equal to a woman...thats a total strawman.
Having equal rights has nothing to do with acknowledging that there are differences. Women are different than men, but they deserve to be have the same rights as men.
As Cartman once said so elequently.

You cannot have two contradictory possible explanations and have them both be theories.
Yes you can. For example, there are many theories of evolution (no I'm not talking about ID or creationism...those certainly are not theories).
As you said, a theory is just a hypothesis that has stood up to testing. It is possible to have two hypothesis that are contradictory that have stood up to available testing. Only theory will stand the test of time, but there is plenty of room for more than one theory in most of science, especially the theoretical branches like quantum mechanics.

Apparently, "Corn_Boy" moderated you up!
ICQ Prank that started this all...

There is an enormous amount of evidence for creation
Please back that claim up...last time I checked just about every discipline of modern science can be used to disprove biblical creationism.

Well, DUH!?!
Thats why we have newspapers. Internet/TV news is rarely as comprehensive as the Wall Street Journal or the New York Times.
I wonder how long until the native get restless, and we get the Martian equivalent of Al'Sadr resisting the occupation?
federal offence last time I checked.
dumbest thing done in the history of mankind PERIOD
I know this was intended as funny, but it wouldn't work anyplace a car stopped at a red should be able to make a right turn...

I HATE HIPPIES!
Now's certainly the time. Take a look at SCOX recent history.
If you know how to read stock trends, you can see this one is headed for the tank unless something very unforseen happens.
Oh, you said Superflu, my bad!
