You probably knew that smoking wasn't good for you. You have "miracle" drugs available to you. When your grandfather died, it was aspirin (maybe) and bed rest.

The point is that the file sharing application is not run with the permissions of the current user, and therefore doesn't have access to information that isn't a+r.

That being said, file sharing applications are supposed to share files. Running these applications as a separate account with no access to files (and likely inability to have write access to the user's home directory or a subdirectery thereof) is quite brain dead.

Any power user that wishes to set up the application that way once it is installed can likely also change the folders that are shared to something reasonable.

Remember that the programmer has to account for some users having no idea which files they want to share.

Yes. Some people will starve. Some people will be unemployed. In every country. In every century.

It would be nice to minimize this, but what is the proper way to do so?

In one asian country, the president or prime minister (can't remember which) decided to place a TV satelite into orbit instead of using the money to feed the people. The side effect was that the people in rural villages were able to get educational TV shows for the first time ever.

The GP (who apparently has inside info at Adobe) says that many companies report flash installation base of within 1% of the number the article gave.
