    Lighten up Francis. A lot of the people reading this have old computers kicking around that are too slow to do what they want on their main box. Just repurpose one of these and the cost to you is functionally ZERO.

    Maintaining it another. One of the hardest things to do is keep up with tax and regulatory changes in your software. You have to be aware of a change before you can implement it.

    This vs. BeagleBoard Black - why would I go with this? The Black is $10 more than a Pi and $144 less than a Minnowboard.

    So wrong on tablets fading. I work in an enterprise and we're developing financial reporting apps because of executive demand. I expect tablets to displace much computer use for the typical user, and a number of our people already travel with a tablet instead of a laptop.

    Matlab? What the hell business uses Matlab on a line user's machine?

    If you have a basic spreadsheet, word processor, and browser you cover 75% of most business users' needs. Add in presentation slide show maker software to cover another 10%.

    Um, we're the number one manufacturer in the world. Still. And by a large margin. Latest numbers I can find easily are from 2007. We made 1.8 trillion USD worth of goods and China did just over a 1.0 trillion.

    We can't upgrade large parts of our corporate network to IE8 because SAP and Hyperion - two very important tools - have told us they won't be supporting IE8 for a few months. In general, I think you should support the latest and the version just before that.

    Not really. fewer ads in a Hulu broadcast might be worth more as far as the depth of impression made. If you watch "Accidentally on Purpose" on TV, you might watch it because you like Jenna Elfman and think the show is funny. Or, you might just happen to be killing time between "How I Met Your Mother" and "The Big Bang Theory". Neilsen can't tell.

    If, however, you watch Accidentally on Purpose on Hulu, it's because you want to watch Accidentally on Purpose. The ads that are targeted to that crowd are more narrowly and more properly targeted to you the Hulu viewer and shoudl be be more valuable per impression.

    Because by my lights (and I run It for 1/3 of a big big company), you're hella overstaffed unless a lot of those people are developers.

    And say hell no to the uniform shirts. You shouldn't be cohesive with your IT team (well, you should, but)- you should be cohesive with the business unit. Anything that separates you from the biz makes you appear more severable from the core of the company.
