  5. This isn't new. on Mario to Shake His Groove Thing · · Score: 1

People act like this is a new thing.

Mario has been featured in a wide variety of titles as far back as the NES. He was the Ref in both the Nintendo published Tennis and Punch Out games.

People buy Mario games, more Mario games get made. I would have thought this is some sort of basic rule of business.

  6. Surprise? on Sales Data Indicates GameCube Underperforming · · Score: 4, Insightful

I don't think this is really a big surprise, For quite some time Nintendo has been the Apple of the games industry; high quality products that typically only sell to a niche fanbase.

Both Apple and Nintendo have wildly sucessful portable units, both typically release their products in a variety of colors, both remain profitable, both won't be going away any time soon.

  7. Shitty game-based movies aside... on Nintendo Eyeing the Big Screen · · Score: 5, Insightful

This is not what this announcement is about. Nintendo are moving into Japanese Animation, to produce movies akin to the likes of Studio Ghibli's productions. The latest Ghibli movie looks set to gross over $450 million in Japan alone, You can see why Nintendo would want in on that market.

Yes, this may end up as a vehicle to cross-promote their games, but the first slated movie that they are said to produce is based on collections of centuries old Japanese literature.

Doesn't exactly sound like a Mario movie.

The official line was that the DS had both a 'proprietary Nintendo communications protocol' ala the Wavebird, and 802.11b for Wifi.

You're probably right though, As there are reports of Pictochat transmitting a MAC address when it's searching for other DS's.

And for the record I have no idea why my grandparent post was a troll. I own a DS and am extremely pleased with it.

I believe local DS-to-DS play utilizes a modified Bluetooth protocol, whereas the Wifi protocol will be used for possible future Online play, or dozens of other Wifi possibilities.

I bought one yesterday, and while it's no graphical powerhouse, It's a lot of fun and Pictochat is a blast.

But the credits in Halo 2 are not rendered in real-time, they're a Bink Video file, and there is only ONE credits file on the Disc. I think this wishful thinking by people who were simply dissapointed with what was essentially, Halo 1.5

  15. Re:This is different. on Xbox Users Too Impatient for Class Action · · Score: 1

Doubtful, There is no such thing as consumer backlash in the Videogame market. If there was, Nintendo would would hold the top spot, as both Sony and MS have had a very large share of problems with their consoles, whereas Nintendo have only had isolated incidents of hardware failure.

Please mod this up, as an Australian living in Canada, I remember good laughs from watching A Current Affair and Today Tonight.

It is a sensationalist, reactionary, show that appeals to the conservative masses. They frequently run stories scapegoating immigrants (Lebanese is a popular one), dole bludgers (what the show calls people on welfare), video games (absolute zealots on this issue, you can be guaranteed an anti-videogame story at least once or twice a month) and in general, promoting ignorance and bias.

There is no journalistic integrity with these people, they don't report news, they make it.
