Certs are cheap. You'll more than make that money back when people like me don't avoid you anymore. As it stands a PayPal logo says, "GO AWAY!" to a lot of people.
It is good, but I'm uncomfortable with how this whole thing unfolded. It reads like, "Woot... caught em! Engage the GPL virus! F-U Microsoft!" As if a battle was won and they're over there shaking their heads about having lost something.
Open Source is not supposed to be a punishment you get slapped with. It's about availability, encouraging development and creating better software. Let's not jeer too much, eh?
But it does mean that Amazon can shut down the compromised instances. That's where the up's and down's come in. I'm happy if they shut someone else off. I get a big-brother feeling if they shut mine off.:)
I think they should be concerned with the competition. That $33mil was spent to put material in front of eyeballs to aide in recruiting and very basic military concepts (ranks, etc). If you don't keep up, nobody sees it and your investment is over.
MySpace sucks, and if they're smart they'll stop buying companies and work on a complete overhaul. Facebook ate their lunch and MySpace still does nothing to fight back.
The copies of SQL Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 were trials (and CTP) at the Heroes Happen Here partner events. That was a total bummer.
The copy of Visual Studio 2008 Std bundled with those was a full copy, just like VS2005 previously, as was the separate copy of Vista Ultimate. I was disappointed to learn that they'd stripped mobile development from VS2008. Brilliant move when everyone is getting hard over the iPhone and its gajillions of apps.
Bonus trivia - They destroyed thousands of copies of that pack after the tour.
You're right, and be wary of anything you say on Xbox live... it's most likely in the company of children. True, they say filthier things than you've ever heard, but that doesn't matter.
And it's only made worse now that IW had made it such that you MUST use public chat in Modern Warfare 2!
If spammers were in areas where they'd be subject to litigation then they'd be breaking the law (spam is illegal, after all) and you'd stop them that way. No need for goofy patents awarded to unrelated parties.
This doesn't solve the Netflix issue. Netflix is in bed with Microsoft and delivers using Silverlight 2.
It doesn't make any kind of sense that a business would deploy any solution using Silverlight, but whatever. I've whined about this before and obviously Netflix doesn't care.
This already happens. If you'll recall the occasion recently, US Navy SEALS took some of these bastards to school.
In most cases ships will try to repel pirates with non-lethal technologies, which is god-damned retarded. They need to send every one of these animals to the bottom of the ocean.
Is "developer" any more prestigious than "IT guy"? I've been both, and didn't feel that one was better than the other. The IT guys laugh at the developers for their supposed inability to troubleshoot the simplest of OS, boxed app, hardware, networking, etc. problems, the developers laugh at the IT guys for their supposed inability to troubleshoot the simplest of programming problems. Each thinks the other wouldn't exist without them. In the end it's all mostly harmless BS.
But I guess if you're the sort that thinks "IT guy" is the same as "feckless intern", you probably have pretty strong feelings on the matter and don't really want/.'s opinion.
Bullshit. What I do with my property after I've legally purchased it is MY FUCKING BUSINESS. Their opinions about what I should and shouldn't do with my property shouldn't be legal obligations. They manufactured it, I bought it, it's mine. If I want to put the engine from my Ford into a Dodge, that's my business, and Ford shouldn't be able to stop me because they feel it's inconsistent with their marketing strategies or because they'd rather I bought another complete car.
I'll cede that copying their OS and redistributing it would be a bogus thing to do, but that's it.
ChromeOS requires an internet connection to be at all functional. When it has that, it's useful.
Android, otoh, has to be a more conventional operating system that can run apps and make phone calls, regardless of whether or not you have a working internet connection.

It does, in theory, by virtue of your termination fee being prorated. What you should be asking is why the fee schedule is so badly unbalanced.
That's why I said that, slick. ;)
Not sure he did it for his own property. But it does prove that books have the best DRM of all.
Congrats /. and "Thanks!"
You've been a regular haunt of mine longer than any other tech site and I'm glad you're still around. :)
Or if you're not sure, an inexpensive but quite usable one like the Celestron dobsonian FirstScope:

It's cheap enough for me to get one for my nephew for xmas and I don't have to worry that he might not use it.

"Wouldn't environmentalism benefit from weaker patents surrounding green tech?"
I think the idea is that strong patent protection encourages research and development by offering a limited monopoly to the patent holder.
Muhaha... "the use of materials that can be more easily replenished and/or recycled". Patent Pending... suck it bitches.

I'm independently lazy, you insensitive clod!

Make sure the new printer comes with FULL carts, not the half-or-less carts they often box with the printer.

What's obvious to me is that these people must work for McDonalds.
I can certainly appreciate that they want to do better, but it still amazes me that we send people into F'ING SPACE with less than 1% failure rate.

Different tools for different jobs.
What kind of babble talk answer is that? I hope this is a misquote from a phone conversation.
