My USB Ports mysteriously stopped working immediately following a patch I applied to Windows XP about a month ago. Then I installed Steam, which basically destroyed my Windows installation (choppy sound, extended periods of no system response, etc..) so I reformatted the partition and reinstalled XP with all the patches..this time my USB ports kept working with the patches.

Just goes to show how touch-n-go a windows patch can be..sometimes it borks your system, sometimes it doesn't. There's really no logic behind why their patches do some of the things they do.

People crying about deleted posts on the SWG boards are usually not the brightest. The SWG boards have a peer moderation system sort of like here on slashdot

All new posts start at 1 star, and the default viewing level is 1 star. If you post a whine or other useless thread, you'll usually get peer moderated down to 0 starts so in affect it appears your "valuable contribution to the community" was deleted by a mod when in reality your fellow players have deemed your post worthless. Of course, you can read at 0 starts if you want to see the "OMG I AM QUITTING AND TAKING MY 300 GUILD MEMBERS WITH ME!!!!" posts.

Oh, I believe it's 1 star, might be two with the default threshold at two star as well..I stopped reading the official boards about 2 days after release because the people there made my brain bleed so I'm going by memory on the little details, but the system is as described..

  16. Nintendo's going to cash out big on this deal. on GameCube Outsells PS2, Xbox After Price Cut · · Score: 3, Insightful

Most people only get one or two consoles, very few buy more than two active consoles. I used to have a N64, then bought a PS1 back in the day, now I own a PS2 and just picked up a GC last week as my second console. What Nintendo has done as put themselves in the position to become the second console in most people's home. If Microsoft dropped the Xbox to $100 first, theres a good chance many of the recent GC purchasers would have went the the Xbox as their second console. Now that Nintendo has virtually established themselves as the 2nd Console of choice, Microsoft just lost that entire market..again.

On a side note, I picked up Legend of Zelda, Metroid Prime and Eternal Darkness with my cube and have been playing Zelda non stop for the past week. Great fun, totally justified the Console purchase. The other 2 games are still in the shrink wrap..greatly underappreciated system.

Make that two, picking one up tonight.

Nintendo has been cranking out some high quality games for the Cube lately and looking at the fall lineup things are just going to get better. Screw the 3rd party support, all they seem capable of putting out nowadays is GTA3 clones anyways. Nintendo may have a smaller library, but I honestly believe that they have a better lineup than the PS2 (and definately the Xbox) with that smaller library.

  20. Re:Not really $99 on Sony Announces FFXI-Bundled PS2 Hard Drive · · Score: 1

Yeah, it's pretty damn expensive. Especially when you realize that you can't use the HD for anything BUT FFXI. Not true.

Granted at release there is only going to be one game available that fully utilizes the Hard Drive but many more will follow down the road. You'll be able to save games to the harddrive. Last time I checked a 8MB memory card cost $20US, so for the same price as 40MB of storage using the cards you are going to get 40Gigs of save space.

Plus, ripping CDs to the drive and creating custom play lists for games will be pretty cool as well.

So the way I see it, they are selling a hard drive and giving away the game for free.

But an Xbox is only $180 brand new..making his "PC Gaming is too expensive" accurate. I've just about come to the same conclusion after spending $400 on a Radeon 9800Pro so I can play HL2 at a decent framerate. PC Gaming is just getting too damn expensive...Plus if I move gaming to the console I can finally wipe out that Windows Partion once and for all.
