  1. because this is how the world will end. on Proposal For United Nations To Study Climate-Cooling Technologies Rejected (reuters.com) · · Score: 1

Yes, we should clean up after ourselves and not leave a toxic waste dump for the generations to come, yes, we should limit toxic emissions that can hurt our atmosphere and the air we breath but as it relates to climate changing it's time to adapt to a changing environment rather than trying crazy experiments to "cool" the planet because as the sci-fi geo-engineering joke goes ... this is how the world will end. Large scale focused human meddling with the atmosphere/climate will never end well .... we don't even begin to really understand all of the facets of what makes our climate such that pretty much all weather and climate models are desperately incomplete so any one measure or group of measures could still have serious unforeseen consequences.

  2. ICE is upholding the law against those breaking it on Open Source Devs Reverse Decision to Block ICE Contractors From Using Software (vice.com) · · Score: 1

It's not about politics, it's about a federal law enforcement organization enforcing the laws of this country... It's their job and the whole purpose of their existence. It isn't their job to write laws, that's what congress does, if you don't like it lobby congress rather than complaining about ICE?

  3. So here's the thing, I will believe that this was a real problem or caused any change in the vote if you can find me a single conservative that ever, in a million years, even considered voting for Hillary Clinton. Were their propaganda campaigns? Sure ... Did they sway voters that were rabid about Hilary to vote for Trump or vice versa, not a chance. They didn't even sway me, in the middle from voting for a third party candidate, which was my intention all along. The crowds voting for these people are so ideologically opposed to one another's general philosophy, that there was no chance that this changed the outcome of our election.

When, are we going to lean toward the idea that we are responsible for ourselves rather than trying to blame something, someone, etc for everything that we do or every problem that we encounter? At some point we have to show personal responsibility and say maybe it isn't this thing that causes the problem, maybe it's what I choose to do with it or how I choose to use it. Sure, if you eat 10 cheeseburgers you get fat, but if you eat one or two, no so much .... and just like that, you have the capacity to turn off your internet connected devices.

As humans we are limited by our hardware capacity but as code running in "the cloud" able to allocate more resources to the growth of it's "mind" or even just to rewrite it's own code to be more efficient than a human would have been able to do it could grow and develop exponentially and potentially access everything the particular network or the internet has to offer to expand it's "mind" Combine that with millions of internet connected moving devices, industrial robots, etc ...... even if it isn't sentient, even if it is just glitchy and smart it doesn't sound like a good time for humanity.
