    As you may know, the development process for Linux has differed substantially from the development process for other enterprise operating systems. Commercial software is built by carefully selected and screened teams of programmers working to build proprietary, secure software. This process is designed to monitor the security and ownership of intellectual property rights associated with the code. By contrast, much of Linux has been built from contributions by numerous unrelated and unknown software developers, each contributing a small section of code. There is no mechanism inherent in the Linux development process to assure that intellectual property rights, confidentiality or security are protected. The Linux process does not prevent inclusion of code that has been stolen outright, or developed by improper use of proprietary methods and concepts.


    The whole "letter" just reeks but the part I quoted just makes me so mad. I didnt know a company could fall so low.
    What effect exactly are they trying to achieve by sending it to Linux vendors like redHta and Mandrake? Why the hell do they want to piss everyone off? Why do the want such bad publicity?

    Well, I live in Russia and enjoy a nice standard of living due to oursourcing. What
    makes you think that Americans are somehow entitled by God to a sky high standard
    of living? You dont want H1Bs , you dont want outsourcing yet you are perfectly OK with
    selling $400 MS office to third world countries. Anyhow, I thought US was a nation of immigra
    nts, people who belive its ok to ditch your old country when the going get tough and move on to greener pastures, so
    move your lazy fat macdonalds ass to India, move to Russia, work here for 800 and live like kings.

    I had to dl a binary kernel module to get 3d accel support for 9000 (non-pro) in RH8 (4.2) and the kernel complained about being tainted with it. What kind of driver does 4.3 come with?

    Unfortunetly conflict seems to be buil-in into the very concept of a nation-state. As long as interests of some people (citizens) are considered fundamentally more important than all others than conflicts between them and us are inevitable.

    on the occupied territories because the vied it as
    immoral. Of course they were tried by the miliraty courts and jailed

    While you are in Europe, you might decide to spend some quality time overhere. I live in Siberia and pay 720 rubles (~$23) for an dial-up 56k intetnet package that comes with free nights plus 50 hours anytime.
    Surely a rip-off by us standards, but much better than it was 4-5 years ago. Community local ethernet networks are also very popular, mostly for film/music sharing and game playing.

    You know I wasnt moved by the hysterical tone of the Salon plea for help. Theys eem to believe (or want us to believe) that they are the last stronghold of free press in the US and the las refuge for free thinking people. When in fact one can find hundreds of aklternative indepndant news/analysys sites on the net.

    How do apparently inteligent ppl like you become so brainwashed? Saddam is a cunning veteran politician not some suicidal nut from a James Bond movie. I dont belive he would spend decades refining plutonium and developing long range ballistc misslies just to get his country, relatives, power elite and himself turned into a parkibng lot 40 minutes later. Saddam doesnt want to kill 100k people in Manhattan, all he wants is for the US to leave him alone and let him continue his iron fist rule inside Iraq. Unfortunetly there are no democratic arab states right now. Purhap the arab culture is not ready for it? In any case the change has to come from the inside of Arab World , it cannot be brought by the "crusaders".

    The need for war with Iraq has been completely made up by the media. I'm a realist and understand that war will happen regadless of UN and world opinion. I know in the US 2/3 of the population support tyhe war effort, but in the UK the majority is clearly against it and Blair is still ignoring it. As far as
    braking of UN resolutions is concerned its the sheer hipocrasy that upsets me. Israel has broken dozens of UN resoltuins, developed WMD and attacked other countries in the region. When are we going to war against it? Us doesnt need democarcy or human rights abroad. all it needs is a loyl government that will supply iys with oil. What as sad world we are living in
