  1. The downfall of Microsoft on Microsoft Outsourcing High-Level Work · · Score: -1

While Washington state may be a nice place to live, the infestation of west-coast liberals will be the downfall of Microsoft. Enter the AFL-CIO... Hello corruption and pricing your labor out of the world market.

I guess, perversely, this is good news for Linux.

Nobody is going to buy linux from this blatently homosexual ad campain.

  7. BMC: Good Riddance on Software Companies - Merge or Die? · · Score: 0

BMC recently bought Remedy. Remedy ARS is a helpdesk package. It might work ok for a small windows only shop, but it totally sucks for us.

The multi-platform support comes through a horrid mixture of mangled HTML, javascript, and java applets -- ALL ON THE SAME PAGE!! It doesn't work right on netscape/mozilla browsers. They browser sniff and send different code based on your user agent so bugs can't be reproduced between myself (on linux) and users (on windows).

Their main website (www.remedy.com) is a trojan horse. It looks good, but the "supportweb" site is severly confusing and broken. Document searches go to these strange java applet embedded tables that forward you on to PDF files. (and I don't mind PDFs)

We can't even download product updates if we're not using a windows or solaris desktop. This is because updates are not directly available. You have to download a downloader applet that will perform the (HTTP-based) download for you!

    DIE REMEDY DIE!

  16. Regressive my ass on States Link Databases to Find Tax Cheats · · Score: 1

That regressive argument is the biggest crock of bullcrap ever uttered.

Say that we have a flat tax of 10% and imagine a rich and a poor person who both need a car.

The poor person buys a nice reliable used Civic for $5k. The rich guy buys a new $120k Mercedes SL class to blend in at the country club.

The poor person is taxed $500 for his car. However the rich guy gets taxed $12,000 for his car. He paid $11,500 more in taxes for his car!! I fail to see the unfairness.

You have to answer that yourself...Don't worry, it's not too hard. First of all, either system will deliver a better picture for a lower price than cable.

Now for the Dish vs DirecTV question...

Step 1: Decide which Dish package and which DirecTV package you would buy. Note that there are alternate places to get music videos (Fuse) and cartoons than MTV & Nick.

Step 2: Compare the prices on those package.

Step 3: Take the difference in monthly cost and multiply it by 12 to find out what your annual price difference really is.

Decide if package1 is worth X dollars more than package2. People usually base their answer on how big of a role TV plays in their life and how much they watch it.

While it's true that Dish is a MPEG2 service, the tech on the phone wasn't 100% bullshiting. A few years ago I was at my friend's house watching the WWF on TNN (now a viacom channel!!). It was pixelated and blocky. We saw the compression artifacts and even blackouts and redraws. The thing is, my friend had standard analog Cox cable!! It was TNN (or Cox) fucking up before the content hit the cable.
