I severely doubt it. Too many donors.

  3. This is what democrat politicians are especially bad at - foresight.

They want all of these regulatory bureaucracies but never think about when the pendulum swings and the other party is in charge.

Obama and his pen are another great example. How is that legacy working out for him?

  4. Do you want to know the best way for an executive to give an out of touch presentation?

    Don't use your own product.

What this guy does isn't a huge deal, but if he had personal trouble with the linux desktop, perhaps he or most likely one of the developers under his influence would scratch that itch for all of us. Leadership is a tough thing when you don't live by example.

  6. "It probably would have survived in court"

Do you have a factual basis for thinking DACA would survive in court? Because there is a lot of evidence to say you are wrong.

Look at what happened to DAPA (the parent act similar to DACA). The whole reason DACA is in the news today is because the same group of attorneys who took DAPA through the courts was preparing the same exercise on DACA.

  7. You might put your fingers in your ears and shake in a tantrum, but this piece at Fox answers all of your questions:

    Here is the immediate quote:

"At the end of the 19th century, the U.S. Supreme Court declared that congress has “plenary power” (meaning full and complete) to regulate immigration. Derived from Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution, the doctrine is based on the concept that immigration is a question of national sovereignty, relating to a nation’s right to define its own borders and restrict entrance therein."

The linked opinion piece (the words of lawyers are always "opinion") cites many Supreme Court decisions, including why the argument of prosecutorial discretion does not apply to a class of 800,000 people.

  12. Dev Tools has Replaced View Source on We Need To Reboot the Culture of View Source (wired.com) · · Score: 1

In a small way, Thompson is correct. But a modern web developer wouldn't view source, they would right-click Inspect the element.

There are many reasons for this but the most basic thing a novice (or out of date old-timer) should understand is that the code you see through View Source is not necessarily what you are seeing on the rendered version.

This is due to several reasons but the most obvious are CSS and Javascript. CSS can modify the positioning, colors, size, and general layout parameters of an item. Javascript can modify the DOM, which in plain English means it has modified the original HTML file. These modifications may well include inserting or removing parts of the original HTML document.

The browser dev tools show how things are, not how they came across the wire. It's a major mindset change from the 1990's web.

Not only did President Trump get us out of an expensive yet worthless non-binding global agreement, he also got a commitment from nearly 350 local mayors to keep their carbon reduction goals and has made France step up their reduction in emissions. Liberals will refuse to admit it but President Trump has been one of the most effective leaders of reduced global fossil fuel emissions.

  17. I'd rather support the travel sites on Hotels Now See Online Travel Sites as Rivals (marketwatch.com) · · Score: 1

As someone with no hotel brand allegiance, I'd rather earn my points through hotels.com than a single chain. This allows me to get the best location at an amenity tier that fits my trip. Sometimes I want cheap and sometimes I will pamper myself. When locked into a single hotel brand, it makes it harder to fit those needs.

And I usually check the hotel website directly prior to booking to make sure I'm not getting screwed on price. Almost always the price is the same which validates my decision to keep racking up points with hotels.com.

Plus there are stupid aspects to a lot of the hotel chain programs. I was traveling to Las Vegas a lot so I took the MGM "mlife" points card. Your benefits improve as you move up the 5 tiers. (cheaper booking, express checkin lines, etc) As I was approaching Gold (tier 3), they reset all of my accumulated points and tier down to zero. I called up the support number to ask if there was a mistake. They informed me that on your membership anniversary date, they take away all of your levels and rewards. (It's in the fine print) So fuck them. I actually book, eat, gamble more at the Caeasars chain of properties now just because I'm bitter about that. MGM really screwed themselves.
