They are not filing suit against Bluetooth. UW is filing suit against chipmakers that are using the Bluetooth protocol. There is something in the design of these chips (created by third parties) that they are claiming is violating their patent.
Hopefully Evergreen gains enough steam to get our consortium to at least consider it, however considering that most of the IT people employed by the consortium can't even figure out how to manage Windows servers it's likely they'll opt for something easer for them to administrate.:(
Don't you think that easy administration should be a requirement for any project like this? I think your libraries would be perfectly justified in making a decision based on that.
I took a tour of the supercomputing facilities at the University of Oklahoma, and there was actually a lot of stuff for us to see and talk about. The air conditioning system for this room had like three fail safes, and if they all failed, the temperature of the room would increase by somewhere around 3 degrees per second. The director actually had flashing lights installed on the rack of computers. He said that when the state board of regents came around to distribute funding, it was a lot easier to persuade them when there was something to catch their attention.
Here's a list of things that need to happen first:
1. Experiments must be verified 2. Efficiency of separation is increased 3. This process must have the ability to scale up reasonably 4. The cost of nanotubes becomes much less than $200/gram
And at the end of the day, the production still has to be profitable in the marketplace. Sure these people want to talk about what the fruits of their research will be, they want more funding. I don't see why seem so upset that things like this take time.
If customs ever found out about this, would they be very very upset. He knowingly misclaimed the value of the package by a couple thousand dollars. The scammer can claim that he actually wasn't a scammer, right? I mean...maybe he didn't know that the escrow site was a fake and doesn't like to conduct the final transactions through ebay..
They just wanted to make sure you actually read the story. Anyone who doesn't mention that obviously didn't read the article and shouldn't be modded up.
He's always supported nanotechnology since he was a student at MIT, but many people have pointed out that he goes about it the wrong way. He's made a lot of efforts to further the science, but he tries to do it in one large leap. A lot of the academic community see him as a pseudo-scientist who is way too optimistic. He's gained a lot of his popularity from saying things that are shocking but don't have much credibility to them.
Getting an Eagle Scout rank in Boy Scouts isn't really that hard. A lot of the adult leaders make it so easy to advance and a lot of summer camps I've been to fudge the requirements for required badges.
if there are some coils in this huge wire then it'll be travelling around a huge magnetic field (the Earth). From physics class we all know that this creates some electricity. While the energy produced may be small, it should be able to get itself into the spinning motion and keep itself if power is an issue.
Do these companies actually need the 2-hour consulting with the FSF that they get in return for their patronage? Wouldn't it cost them more to switch from the normal consultees or just using their own staff?
Has anyone ever tried to play one of those adult games? They're probably the least entertaining of all but I imagine they will last quite a bit longer than most others. At least until every computer gamer has a girlfriend/hell freezes over.
Back in high school I used to drive around with friends shining a 2 million candlepower spotlight into bedrooms of people we didn't like, or ringing the doorbell and waiting until they answered the door to blind them. I imagine that I wouldn't have been nearly as bored with a sound "spotlight" to bother people.
i'm starting grad school next semester. i hope to god that sc2 is delayed long enough for me to get my phd.

so you can save your games to play them later
Sure, just come on over anytime.
Thanks for the link, man. I've got some I can share too.
Isn't water with lead in it better than no water at all?
credit cards are unsecure loans, which means that they cannot take your property as collateral for unpaid debts.
Are you kidding?? The news that he wants to have some control is probably going to bring the stock price down. It would be the perfect time to sell :)

a specific set of operations in a specific sequence with specific data reminds me of that show on the WB called Phreakazoid i'm phreaking out!
robot soccer is seriously something that influences my career decisions. it's just so damn cool.
I want to sue the bastard John Doe who has been stealing lawn gnomes out of my yard.
I always thought that stereotypes were accurate. It's kind of a shock to find out that they are different from the truth.
