  1. Re:tend to be smaller files than movies on TV Piracy is Next · · Score: 1

A few gigabytes? Maybe you should get something actually compressed. HDTV Episodes range in size between 350 an 450MB in divX format with no noticable loss of quality even on a 53 inch tv screen. Personally I download, watch the episode once and then delete it. Once it comes out on DVD I purchase the entire season box set for my collection....I just did a calculation and maybe it would save me money if i couldnt download the episodes...i calculated that i bought 21 season sets from series i originally downloaded...thats over $1000 canadian

If it wasnt for Stargate SG1 i never would have tried out Stargate Atlantis. Because of file sharing I have purchased all 7 seasons of buffy the day it came out, same goes for 7 seasons of Stargate, 3 of smallville, 4 of angel....thats money they never would have seen otherwise

Here's a novel solution: spammer gets sued spammer gives money money is used to found free anti-spam product customer doesnt have to pay to get rid of the nuisance although if I bothered to check sourceforge I'm sure there must already be a free product out there. I hope McAfee is smart enough to allow free products to go on. I really do think patents when it comes to computer software need to have their rules changed. This is really getting out of hand. Gene patents are the same way...what has this world come to when you can patent the rights to the gene that ____fill in the blanks____?

  13. I dont think this is over by a long shot on Music Industry Loses In Canadian Downloading Case · · Score: 1, Interesting

Taking a look at the history in the US with the RIAA I highly doubt we have seen the last of this. The biggest problem the RIAA faces with Canada is they are already getting royalties for every blank CDs purchased and therefore only have legal grounds to sue people who share and cannot touch those who simply download the music. But hey i'm no lawyer so what do I know :)

  14. Do they think these guys are clueless on File Sharing Increases CD Sales · · Score: 0

The guys they have to worry about are not the guys they will catch (people who download software but yet dont even have a firewall installed). Most people who know a thing or two about security who download from P2P probably use a firewall of some sort and would probably notice a "phone home" when trying to run an installer (and be able to block it from doing its job). This means they wouldnt catch the "hard core" guys (who is the ones they should worry about) but they would catch the "average joe" who is clueless. As well; what about the legal implications? Trojans are illegal, even in this case!

Both cases are too late to do something about should one be on a colision course with earth. I think better monitoring has to be in place.

  16. Brain able to detect viruses early? on Mind Over Machine · · Score: 2, Interesting

I'm sure most of you are aware the brain is a very complex system. I have a theory. The brain tries to relay information to the rest of our body as much as it can, although the rest of our body is complex I doubt it comes even close to the brain in terms of complexity. The brain can be thought of as a monitoring system; it relays information back and forth within the body. I think it is very conceivable to think that the brain is able to measure a lot more about our body in general than it is able to show the rest of the body. This means that in theory it is able to measure minor changes within the body (such as the start of a cold) before the changes reach a level deemed critical by the "system". Once a signal is deemed critical your body starts feeling it (such as the pains associated with a cold). Assuming my theory is correct why would it throw away such information? It is like any other monitoring systems; you just cannot keep all information and affect your entire system because of it. Your body quietly attemps to fight off a virus early on without your knowledge because of information relayed back and forth between it and the brain. If it is succesfull you will never be aware of it, should it reach a "critical" stage you are aware of it as you feel the symptoms. The body would not be able to handle all of these signals; no matter how complex the humain body is, there must be billions of signals alone. Your body is obviously aware of the cold before you are since it transmits information to parts of your body to produce the cells capable of fighting infections (as you can see here I'm not fammiliar with all the mechanisms of a cold but I'm sure I'm probably not too far off). Anyways; I'm leaving you with this thought: What if your body is able to detect the "Intrusions" of a cancer as it forms still in a stage that is very easy to kill? What if it can detect a foreign entity (such as the virus that causes AIDS?) What if the Brain wave patterns can be found....what if?
