The Bush administration really screwed up this time, and I'm saying this from a completely non-partisan point of view. The FISA court exists specifically for quick wiretaps when the government believes there is an immediate threat, and they even have a 72 hour period where you can get the tap authorized by FISA after the tap is placed. As far as I'm aware, they never even brought some of these cases before FISA.
The fact that they did this without even consulting the FISA court is completely illegal, and bypasses the checks and balances of our government. I don't think anything will happen to the prez, but this is really just disgusting.
And the jobs that women "dominate" tend to be some of the lowest paying. My mother works at a daycare center, and she barely gets above minimum wage in the state, despite the fact that she has years of experience, loves her job, and does it very well.
Nursing is one of those jobs where the demand is high because the amount of work required scares most people away. They earn a fairly decent salary, but you can't tell me they get even close to what the PhD's working right next to them earn (who, as far as I'm aware, are mostly men).
...that if there is another terrorist attack on U.S. soil near the scale of 9/11, that the pendulum will just swing the other way. We know now how far the government is willing to go to "protect" us, and they'll do it again in a heartbeat.
Believe it or not, there ARE people out there with legitimate, 500+ CD collections who would rather not repeat the process of:
A. Ripping the CD.
B. Fixing the tags.
C. Applying album art.
D. Sorting the music properly.
...500 times!
I'm not saying that I would use it (I personally like organizing my collection, it's fun for me), but I could see how someone with a large music collection would be willing to pay for such a service.
The day the music industry stops selling us DRM crippled, low-quality merchandise over the internet is the day I stop loading my iPod the conventional way.
Except that you can't lump all increases of life into the same category. Who's to say that this increase doesn't also affect the length of childhood? Adolescence? People can and do change their minds all the time. I totally disagree that slowing the aging process down and extending life is the wrong thing to do.
Society will adapt to the increase in life-span, just as it has adapted to the increase in life-span we've already seen. And, if the treatment allows newborns to live 6 times as long, and age much slower, think of how smart we'd become. If the brain doesn't degrade over the course of 300 years, you could have all sorts of intellectual insight that is currently stifled by old age. Imagine if Einstein were still alive today, bright as ever!
It's for same reason that they didn't like a solar system model that was heliocentric: The Earth is described in the Bible as being completely static and unchanging. Plate tectonics kinda go against that...
I love IMDB, but I really think they ought to change their name by now. They have info on movies, television, video games, you name it. Something more befitting of a database that has more than just movie information.

...does anyone notice that there are periods when there are nothing but disgusting slurpee flavors available? I've just found that many a time I've entered a 7-11 with a slurpee craving, I would find no flavors that I like...
What about Hawking? You can't tell me many lay people with no interest in science don't at least know of him.
Common sense.

I have a whole planet named after me. And don't give me that "science" nonsense!
None of them are up to the challenge of the 1x1 cube!
Having it slam into the Earth would be one way.
I think the Rooskies should rename the station the ISSR. It's basically theirs now anyway.
Well, I was going to boycott this CD in protest...then I realized that no one wants to listen to that crap anyway.
...people will find a way around it. They will NEVER make any media copy-proof. It has been cracked again and again and again. I am not worried.
*facade.
