They make one or two good points on things like recording capabilities and battery life. But neither of those really make a difference to me. I dont exactly travel across country every day so the 6 hours per battery has made me more than happy with my 30GB ipod.
The point that really made no sense though was the one about online music services. WMV is no more open than AAC. You cant play either on alternative operating systems (linux, bsd, etc). From what I've been reading in the press the DRM on Apple's iTunes is much less restricitive than that of BuyMusic.com, and the other serviecs.
The feature I've always liked about the ipod is its UI. I cant find another player thats nearly as easy to use. The old style interface was better but I still like this. Then again I've yet to see the Dell or Samsung offerings in person.
Seems like it would be hard to mass msging like spammers because of the short range. I guess you could had a "transmitter" in crowded public places, but its no where near as cheap as good old SMTP spam.
Seth Nickell will be speaking about the freedesktop.org project and his work with GNOME.org at the Southern California Linux Expo on November 22, 2003. SCALE 2003 will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center. More information is available on their website at http://www.socallinuxexpo.org
For a free exhibit hall pass use the promo code 'free'. For 50% off a full access pass use the code 'sctek'
I hope they plan on making a list of blocked IPs available and make it easy to get off the list as well. I wonder if they plan to block all traffic to/from those hosts or just SMTP.
I still have my original 500mhz G3 ibook. I highly recomend them. They take a pretty good beating and will run Linux and OS X. Cant promiss X will work on the newer models yet. It seems everytime apple upgrades they change the video slightly, but the ppc developers seem to be on top of it.
In the LUG I regularly go to I think theres 8 or so iBooks running debian. We're all pretty happy with them.
I'm using GAIM 0.70 and its still working fine with MSN. A few weeks ago I was receiving regular messages from the MSN service telling me to upgrade to the latest version of MSN.
My P60 running as a router doesnt hold a candle to some of the other entries. The oldest machine I have handing around is a 386... Had to toss my 8086 do to lack of space.
Andrew Morton, who will be maintaining the Linux 2.6 kernel, will be speaking at SCALE 2x Other 2.6 developers include William Irwin, and Patrick Mochel.
Seeing as in this situation you wont be able to convince your students to switch:
1) Require all machines to register their mac address via nice gui or website. This way when you use all the rest of the stuff mentioned here (snort, etc) you can easily track the student down.
2) Run snort, router, acls, etc in a way to automatically blocks infected users. Or at the very least it should at least alert you of them. But blocking is best so that they dont spread the infection further on your network or to the internet via your fat pipe.
3) Buy a site license of the managed versions of Norton Antivirus for the dorms and hand one to every student as they walk in the door. Once they've installed it you can force the updates on to them.
Maybe file a complaint on the FTC website? Tell them how many Linux systems you have and how much SCO claims you owe them. ($699 / system and $32 / embeded system). Then explain that SCO wont provide proof of their claims and what Linux is.
The form for filing complaints is here
Is it me or did she basically sound like a giddy 12 year old in that interview. Usually it helps to answer the question the interiewer is actually asking.

Just to make it clear. That is with the SCO promo code which increases ticket costs by 2x. See the website for more accurate pricing.

Linux Training providers should get on this fast and start working to help train organizations on non-MSFT products.

A few places I work use a tool from Sophos to push the patches onto client machines over the network.
MapQuest and Yahoo are more or less the same thing. I switch between the two. I probably use mapquest most though.

Apple's store already seems to be a success. Hopefully they'll get a windows client out soon.
I use a bic bottom of the line ball point pen.
Robin Rowe, project leader of cinepaint will be speaking at SCALE this year about CinePaint and Linux in Hollywood.
Andrew Morton, who will be maintaining the Linux 2.6 kernel, will be speaking at SCALE 2x Other 2.6 developers include William Irwin, and Patrick Mochel.

LBPN's next stop is SCALE 2x. SCALE is held in Los Angeles, CA on November 22. Jeremy White and others interviewed will be speaking at SCALE.
AOL tried this for a long time and failed miserably. Remember when MSN was attempting to convince AOL to open up AIM?

Stick to the pics. As I said before the interview is trash.
