Having not experienced the "other way," I can only speak from the perspective of a publically-schooled automaton. That being said, I think the absolute best thing about public schools that I learned was how to deal with absolute assholes.
Surprise, surprise, you have to deal with absolute assholes wherever you go. If the only people you've ever socialized with accepted you for who you were without question, you may have a difficult time dealing with someone who thinks you're nothing. Nowadays, thanks to the horror that was middle school, I just shrug it off.
As I type this, one of my floppies sits here next to my keyboard. It's an AOL disk from 1995.
It's been formatted at least 60 times, without losing any sectors to corruption. Once again, proof that they did make floppies out of better materials back then.
There's also the two Compuserve install disks that my mom brought home back when I was in middle school. The fact that I'm now halfway through college and they still work says something about them.
Winamp only seems to use that much memory if you have a large playlist. If you just double click to play the files you want to play, having only one song in the playlist at a time, the memory use is much lower. Perhaps somewhere around 2 or 3 MB.
Makes me wonder if one could search the hashes of, say, the Debian unstable repository, and look for duplicates. There should be enough files there for at least the chance of a match.
Try the "systeminfo" command. This will give you, among other things, the system uptime. This works on Windows XP, but it may not on previous Windows'.
That's what always confused me. The people that bash fast food places never eat there anyway. It would be a lot more helpful to the cause of "slimming down America" if those health-conscious individuals kept to their salads and Diet Cokes, and leave the double quarter pounders and large shakes to the rest of us.

A senior engineer from Real explains how to get RealPlayer 10 to act nicely on one's system. I followed the instructions, and it works quite nicely. However, if one has Real Alternative installed previously, one has to remove it completely using instructions found further down the page.
If you open the torrent file linked in the article in, say, Notepad, there's a message:
Hello, there is Knoppix 3.3 in a newer version avaible, it seems to have everything besides the 2.6.1 kernel (that is not without problems) but is probably more up to date, here is a big list of _FAST_ ftp and http mirrors
there is also an ENGLISH edition
http://www.knopper.net/knoppix-mirrors/
bittorrent is here: http://torrent.unix-ag.uni-kl.de:6969/
Knoppix 3.4ct also has 2.4.23 or 2.6.1 both have the do_remap security flaw, the 2.4.24 in Knoppix 3.3 is ok.
If you are in germany you can get Knoppix 3.4 easily at about every store in the c't. (http://www.heise.de/ct) The HD install also doesn't work with 3.4 ct edition.
The real Knoppix 3.4 will be release in a few weeks.
The torrent was only for a few people in a small irc channel (not in germany), I don't even have a seed, just a tracker because i have a tiny server for email and web.

There is still http://debian.christian-leber.de/bittorrent-for-pe ople-who-really-really-need-it-otherwise-please-ge t-the-newer-knoppix3.3/ but no idea if it will ever finish, perhaps i have to close it. 30 seeds and more than 400 downloaders will not be finished in the next hours
P.S. there was also a link to an single http server with the complete iso, it's completly irresponsible to make such a thing public without asking before doing this!
I don't know about anybody else, but my Windows installation crashes more often at the "Crash Reporting" screen than at any other time. Perhaps this is skewing the results?
I've found that when dealing with family and technology, patience is key. Remember, your family is not too removed from you. There's a reason that you're interested in technology.
I look at my dad, my mom, and my grandpa, and realize that they were into technology long before I was even born. You are not giving your family enough credit if you say that they cannot learn it. If you do that, you're saying in effect that the reason you know technology is some sort of miracle.
I'm sure you can think back to the first time you screwed up, and had to fix it yourself. Let your family do the same, with some patient guidance, and soon your 54 year old dad will be coding HTML without Frontpage and FTPing it to his web server. Mine is.
Whatever anyone says about the content of these documents is irrelevant. The fact is, most people in the world wouldn't have access to these documents unless they got on a plane to Rome and had lots of time to peruse church archives.
This move is going to make theological research easier for those of us who: 1. don't have a doctorate in it 2. don't have hundreds of dollars for plane tickets 3. don't know the Pope personally
Just because they stopped distributing mod chips doesn't make them a dead company. I look on their website and I see many things that I might like to buy...if only I had any money left from college tuition...
But see, if that hadn't happened, people from South Dakota wouldn't be able to say: "Well, at least one of us got a Nobel prize." Referring, of course, to Ernest Orlando Laurence, born in Canton, SD.

And once again, the strength of Wikipedia shines on. In the linked article, the word "subpoena" was misspelled. It is no longer misspelled.

I had an identical experience with the Qute installation.
And as far as I know, a lot of these changes, like the menus and the theme, were done for cross-platform compatibility.
But what if they've been working at McDonald's during summers in order to pay for their overpriced degree?
Well, of course, then they wouldn't have to complete an application!
Nutrition Chart? It's right next to the coffee condiment station, sir. Yep, next to the far right register.
/me tips own McDonald's crew hat.

Beta 1 of Mandrake 10.0 gives you the choice of kernel 2.6.1 or 2.4.25pre6.

Ah yes, how I did love Chrono Trigger. No random battles. Only good things can emerge when you combine Square and Enix.
Square to Merge With Enix
That's a good one. First time I've seen a Goatse post be moderated positively.
Fry: "What do you monsters want?"
...apparently they won't need them anymore.
Donkey Kong: "One thing, and one thing only! Quarters! A million allowances worth of quarters! No slots or tokens!"
When you get a telemarketing call, you are faced with a choice.
1. Get pissed off.
2. Do not get pissed off.
This is your choice to make, not the choice of the person on the other end of the line.
Telemarketers are people too. They don't do it because they like the job. They do it because they need a job.

Lawrence Welk started his career in radio broadcasting at none other than WNAX, in Yankton, South Dakota.

BTW, Laurencium, element 103, is named after him.
