ok, first off, its a hoax, see all the other posts. Second, MS has admited that they are loseing money on each console sold. They make their money on software sales. (not too unlike the rest of the industry). Secondly, if you are seriously thinking of pirating the ROMs, THE THINGS ARE ON FRIGGIN DVDS. I personally am not going to the trouble of downloading 4.7 gigs of stuff just to screw over M$
includes an original utility for dumping your own legal copy of your own legal ROM from your own iMac
If you have an iMac what is the point in buying this?
And if someone does begin to pirate the ROMs what would stop Apple from going after the company that makes the ROM dump program? We've seen Napster and we've seen DeCSS. It would be no different.
I'll admit that this does sound pretty sweet, but I don't think its gonna happen.
That's the beauty of having Darwin as open-source--people have already gotten OS X to run on unsupported hardware, including G3 and G4 upgrade cards, by adding support.
Ok, first off. Darwin !=OS X
Darwin is the Unix that Jobs so willfully speaks is under the hood of OS X.
OS X = Darwin + Aqua + Classic + some other stuff whose names I can't remember (the Java runtime thing, ect...).
Secondly, its sounds like hella vapor. (also what the hell does iMac-based emulation mean?). The problem with iMacs (at least the older CRT ones) is that the Boot ROM is on the Processor card. Therefore to act like an iMac, they're going to have to have some form of the Boot ROM on this card. I find it hard to believe that Apple would let this company just put anything like that near a Wintel PC (not to mention the fact that they're a product 2 months from a pretty major hardware release and nobody's seen it in action yet).
The MX series of GeForce cards are just lower clocked versions of the GeForce Series. Thus a GeForce 2 MX 400, will be clocked lower than a straight up GeForce 2. I forget why they're called MX, but its the value line of the Geforce Family. The GeForce mobile line was called the Geforce2Go(cute ain't it?). That all being said, I know the MX cards did ship with passive heating.
Because it is like buying a new car. The smell of the plastic when you open the box, holding the controler in your hands, sitting in front of the TV, watching it boot up. I personally don't think there is a greater thrill (but then again, I don't get out much).
Because it didn't make stupid amounts of money. Remeber Waterworld? The most expensive movie ever made, actually made money after an international release and rental and video. That didn't happen with the Sprits Within. The movie cost Square like $140 Million, and made like 40. I do believe that Square said they'd make another movie if somebody else paid for it (they financed The Spirits within themselves) Of course by the decision to sell the studio I'm assuming nobody offered. I'd love to see a sequel, its just not going to happen(sigh only 8 days til I get my copy).
Now, what happens when you integrate your web browser and your local browsing, say to render moot an anti-trust suit filed against your company?
How is this any different from Konqueror? I may just not be understanding Konqueror, but from my limited experience it seems like the same thing. That's all I want to know,
No, as the article mentioned Square and Nintendo hate each other. Nintendo thinks it doesn't need Square (thus forcing me to buy 2 different systems:P), and Square is always trying to prove it can sell consoles (i.e. FFVII) to rub salt in Nintendo's eyes. Like the end of the article mentioned. Square develops for the WonderSwan Color. Which isn't that bad of a handheld. It just has a fraction of the market that the GameBoy does(i.e. silly business decision on Square's Part).
Will the rabid Xbox dismissives vaporize if MS or a third party produces a killer app for this dark horse?
Probably, I didn't have a Playstation until FFVII. and since then I've gotten a few good games. I feel the exact same way about the X-Box. yeah, the stuff looks pretty, but as I firmly believe, pretty graphics a good game do not make. Of course, FFX and Devil May Cry have convienced me I need a PS2, so if FFXI or FFXII come out on Xbox, I'll probably need one of them too.
All I know is that this previously low-key hobby of console collecting is getting hellaciously expensive, and I'm loving every minute of it:)
Damn straight. I just got a Dreamcast and a couple games for less than a hundred. Life is good.
Because in every generation of Game Consoles there has been a clear winner (well one could argue between the Genesis and the SNES, but both of those systems peaked at different times). In each of the generations (nes vs. Master System; Genesis vs. SNES; Playstation vs. Saturn vs. N64...) There was a clear winner both in development and in the number of consoles sold. Look at the ongoing "war" between AMD and Intel. Is that any different?
The iMacs also use a similar, but incompatible socket, which could theoretically support multiple CPUs.
Yeah, but the boot ROM is soldered onto the CPU card in iMacs. (this may be different on the newer Kaheis(sp?) I'm not real sure). When you buy one of the G4 upgrades they ask you to send in the old card so they can pop-off the CPU and replace it with a faster one(sneaky ain't they?)
Yes, but most of that increase is from the jump from a 5400 RPM to a 7200. if you took a 5400 ATA/133 drive and benchmarked it against the 5400 ATA/66, the difference would be nil, if there was one.
2. A rehash of "The Tick vs. The Tick" episode-- in which the Tick goes to a superhero bar (complete with Sidekicks' Lounge) and finds that there's another, more psychotic hero that already uses his name.
That episode has my favorite quote from the cartoon:
Non-blue tick: Who's the Jerk that calls himself the Tick?
I'd be willing to bet that Steve Jobs had some dealings with this. As he's CEO of Pixar and must have close ties to Lucasfilm to have all their stuff hosted by Apple and only in Quicktime.
No they aren't. I've only seen "One More Time" once, and that was on MTV2(which is 3.4x better than MTV by the way). Of course, most of the charttoppers aren't techno over here anyway.
yeah, but they're compition to APPLE! Duh, I do find it odd how easily /.ers comprise their morals over some new toy(not that I blame them).
ok , 2 quick things.
1) Pamela Anderson had her implants removed. so technically they aren't "fake any longer"
2) the phrase "fake hoax" is redundant.
That is all(so sayeth the Grammar Nazi)

Oh and remember the Xtrem Mac?
the GeForce i a MX (meaning mobility

Nintendo has been in business since 1891. They originally made playing cards. ( and yes I'm picking nits).

So what is this console war?

they will have to handle it with a palette lifter.
Until they decide to run it through a few times with said palette lifter.

Blue Tick: I am that Jerk!
classic comedy right there.
When I have a house, I'd rather own my house and take the problems than rent it. And I think the same is true about software.
.net yet.
I think that's the best quote I've seen about
kde would face many problems if they had to write an abstraction layer for every single possible graphics card
Then how do Windows and Mac do it? (Note: I honestly don't know and am curious)
In the case of a DVD drive in a PC, unless you have a monitor the size of a 25"+ display, the effect is largely lost
;)
Unless you fall in to the po' college student with one 13" TV and a 17" monitor like me

Just a question, but how is your girlfriend's writing down your date on paper going to keep her boss from expecting her to work?
And "I don't care anymore" makes you sound like an a panty waste apathetic bourgeois sheep still stuck in the memes you read on some stupid website.
/. right?
Not unlike the knee-jerk reactions on
yeah and I also didn't see Hassert's thugs making sure that Feingold voted like he wanted.
