Nobody would've claimed that 10.0 was a "massive speed improvement" over 9.2.2 and before. All the compliments like "omg Tiger is sooo much faster" is compared to either Jaguar or Panther.
In fact, some people would say that Panther and Tiger are back up to OS 9 levels of responsiveness...
What bothers me more than the one-button aspect of Apple's mouse is the fact that it's technically "no button."
The entire mouse IS the button. Sure, it sounds all nifty, but to people who aren't experts, that means hundreds of unwanted clicks.
I've seen dozens of technophobes move the mouse with the wrong type of force and accidentally cause a click. Over and over. They accidentally open applications or move window focus or screw up any action they're trying to do in the first place.
Since there's no set "push this place", users end up frustrating themselves with these "phantom" clicks.
Give me back the dreaded hockey-puck mouse. At least that had a well-defined button.
If you buy a Mac or Panther AFTER THE OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT OF A RELEASE DATE, you will get Tiger for $20.
Tiger hasn't been formally announced yet, so you will not get it for free(cheap) if you buy now.
So, in conclusion, wait until Tiger comes out. No, wait! Wait another 2 years for Lion. And another 2 for Tabby. And another... On second thought, don't buy a Mac until Apple stops releasing OS X upgrades completely. That way you'll never have to buy another OS again!
You're much better off buying an Etch-A-Sketch. I hear there's no update coming for those ever.
Almost every 64-bit processor out there is made with the assumption that 32-bit processes will also have to be run. There is no speed hit for running 32-bit apps on CPUs like the G5 or Athlon64.
Panther has some minor tweaks to certain libraries to allow for 64-bit memory addressing, etc., but the majority of the system (almost all of it) is 32-bit. Tiger will be the same way.
Apple has a developer note pretty much saying "don't make 64-bit apps unless you absolutely must deal with >2GB RAM".
Dashboard Keyboard Activation Preference
Easily change the default key that activates the Dashboard.
HOLY SHIT!
Apple is lightyears ahead in the preferences industry!
Who do I give my credit card number to?!?
Then you'll be interested in Konfabulator:

The first half-hour of using Tiger might be noticeably slower because Spotlight's indexing the entire hard drive.
After the one-time full indexing, files will be indexed as they're created on-the-fly.
Actually, at current world food production levels, you could feed roughly 9 billion people.
...or about 300 million overweight Americans.

Lots of people did it for Windows XP (WinNT 5.1).
...probably "My wife took it."
You need to sign up for a screen name somehow...
I heard a duck say "ALACFLAC" on TV once.
I think it was selling insurance.
Hell, this should be modded "Insightful".
You're right.
Google would've been smart to release the beta of Google Maps with just data for Liechtenstein.
Hey, at least it's not America.
You can create a fully-bootable Mac OS X LiveCD - Finder and all - with BootCD.

Just "Hydra". I still rename each update of SubEthaEdit (HYDRA!!!) after I download it.
It's about time we go after the creators of TCP/IP.
Actually, the Mac mini will NOT have the required antennas unless you BTO the computer with AirPort and/or Bluetooth.
First Mac to do that since the introduction of AirPort.
Ahem... HOMEBOYS in Outer Space.
How DARE you blaspheme such a solid and well-conceived series!
...because you'd be pissing off Bill Gates then.

Apple's Fiscal First Half of 2005 is already half over (Apple started FY2005Q2 on December 27th).
So, if we're going by fiscal year, late-March seems likely.
It will run just as well, if not better, than Panther runs on it right now.
Hardware T&L or not, Tiger has many many optimizations for all hardware.

You're thinking of the $69 wireless keyboard (it's $59 now).
If you're in to soaking up blood and other not-so-sexy secretions, then go ahead.
Apple likes to keep its margin around 25%, so dropping to 16% would be a change from the norm.
