"Today a local man was arrested for screaming at employees of a local 'Best Buy' store after they refused to sign a contract he had printed out. Bystanders claimed that he refused to buy any of their products unless they signed said document, and that NOT signing would be a grave injustice. Our sources have told us that he is currently being held in Bellview Psychiatric Hospital, and is undergoing observation."
See, that's why I just ignore laws like that. I bought the DVD. It's mine. I own it. If I want to crack the copy protection, it's my choice. Since, you know, I own it and all. If I wanna take a razor and scratch up the surface, it's my choice. Since, you know, I own it and all.
I really don't understand how it came to be that if you buy something it's still not yours.
Then again, I live in canada so that DeCSS ruling probably doesn't effect me... yet.
Really? I was under the impression that it was a fine format. I have quite a few ogg encoded movie clips, and they're all quite fine.
Then again, they're all animation... simple animation as well (Family Guy to name some).
Holy shit I had dreamed about something like this happening.
Months ago I had said to my friends "Since I can't do it in theaters, I'm gonna get all the extended DVDs when they come out and watch them in a row.". Now I CAN do it in theaters. Hurray.
"And lo, the land of Slashdot split open, and the Anonymous Coward tumbled towards the center of the earth and landed in a pool of hot magma. And the lord said unto the land "Thou shalt not trash talk Linux, or else I shall mod you down to hell to suffer forever and ever.", and the peasants rejoiced." - Book of Slashdot 12:23
After trying all the major and some not-so-major Window Managers/Desktop Environments for Linux, I have to say that Fluxbox is the one that has captured my intrest for the longest, with Gnome being a close second.
Not to be flamebait, but I just prefer Gnome over KDE because it seems cleaner, faster, and more usable (God bless the HIG). KDE is good for beginner users, however.
I love linux. I use it on my desktop. I use it on servers. I use it everywhere. And the stuff that SCO is claiming is simply mud slinging. I think it's safe to say that the very fact that they refuse to show their proof shows us that their claims are feeble at best.
In any case, it was only a matter of time before companies like Red Hat started to act against SCO, not relying on IBM to do all the work. I wouldn't be suprised of SuSE and other major Linux companies started their own lawsuits.
From what I can tell, the data on the hard drive is encrypted and decrypted on the fly. While that may not conflict with the OS you have on there, what if you wanted to put the drive in another, non Secure IDE motherboard? Apparently you wouldn't be able to access it. Hopefully it'll come with an app that can decrypt the HDD... and of course that app will be windows only.
Next up, the RIAA starts targetting computer makers. Then they'll go after OS writers (look out, microsoft! You should have known better than to allow people to develop software for your OS! Software that could BREAK THE LAW!), and after that they'll start hitting media-player programs. Finally, they'll take legal action against music artists themselves - the TRUE source of all this piracy!
A simple thing you could do is go for a quick job during your lunch break. Of course it would be wise to change clothing, but a quick jog every day can do wonders for you. It's good excersize and you could probably fit it into your current schedule.
And if it's a tech job, just move heavy computers around all day... it looks like real work!
I was under the impression that in the American justice system, you are innocent until proven guilty. Is this not still true? I mean, shouldn't the RIAA/DirecTV have to prove that you DID use it illegally instead of you having to prove that you DIDN'T?
I imagine that cost would be a big problem with that. Laptops are already quite expensive, and an even higher price tag isn't going to help.
Inconceivable!
I don't think you'd WANT the big mac they show in commercials. It's cold, some of it is fake, and I'm sure it wouldn't taste great.
And soap is soap, damnit. I've never seen it claimed to be more than it is in advertising.
Which is why you should start your own business! You could boss anyone around, then!

Because it's impolite?
Am I the only one who thinks this is getting out of hand?
And a partridge in a pear treeeeeee!

Canada - Savage Wasteland of the north, or model for the future?
Revenge of Sauron was a real dropoff in the quality of Tolkien's work. But he picked up again for awhile with the LotR/Narnia crossover.
Hate to burst your bubble, but they're talking about re-releasing them in THEATERS so you can watch all three close together.

ARGH, I am sick of all these STUPID linux users.

Oh good god NO!
I spent many an hour trying to get it to work with both Wine and the pay version of Winex.

I'd like to take a look at that file.

My organization is entirely devoted to using mozilla and mozilla based products.
And yes, I AM looking to expand our current one man workforce.
And of course, what I MEANT to say was I doubt they would have preferred sending the robots.
