It costs a lot to stop traffic (gas, a lot of peoples time, wear on a lot of cars), it doesn't cost that much to make you wait (one slighty aggravated peon). Until that changes, prepare to wait.

I always felt weird when intersections would stop traffic to let me cross, I always felt like an idiot walking across an 8 lane road packed with cars waiting for my worthless ass to get across the street.

Be careful, I learned in my driving class (damn you san jose police department!) that the whole radar thing is mostly outdated and very few stations still use them. The laser technology is much more reliable and my instructor told me it actually reads the license plate (somehow) and shows the cop who you are, so they have a rcord that says something like:

2004-12-01 14:58 Bill AnyName, San Jose, CA - 98 MPH

I happened to have a cool instructor though and she explained ot us that if we simply spray some thick hair spray on our plate or buy a diffusing cover, it will diffues the laser and render the speed detector null.

I hate cops pulling you over for speeding and ticketing you, its one of the dumbest things ever, I cant think of any other small crime where you don't at least get a warning to stop first. Oh, and now that I've moved to Buffalo for college, the cops are EVEN WORSE here.

Sorry for being so off topic. Oh, and um, the RIAA can go **** itself! Viva la free advertising they should be happy for instead of suing!

No, the worls IS NOT over run by creature from Xen. The combine is a different alien species altogether. The portals from xen were only activated two times, once during the resonance cascade failure, and by Nihilith sending in aliens to try and kill you (Gordon Freeman). Well, that is slightly wrong as there are now the vortigaunts in City 17 as well, so they must have teleported too, but I can't think of a better way of wording it.

Anyway, the combine are a weirdo half machine half living flesh thingy that has enslaved a lot of the human race. They are NOT Xen aliens. I think the universe is much more expansive than we have seen in the first two games. I think Xen and Earth are just pawns in an interstellar story and HL3 and so on will only reveal more and more of a crazy mixed up universe. What these games have done is really quite incredible considering there aren't any cit scenes or books to read or anything. They have really crammed a lot into the players normal progression.

The car will go for 200 miles. Assuming you dont have to run down the battery all the way, then you just have to top it off every night. I mean, really, how many miles is the commute to work and back and then maybe subsequent driving like going to restruants and such? Even when I was living in California, i would rarely hit the 100 mile mark on any given day. Now living in a much less sprawled out area I rarely hit fifty, with a lot of chauffering people around and random decisions to head down some random road. So you just plug it in when you get home, its no big deal really.

Of course it isn't the end all. People in rural areas and such will still need a gas powered or hybrid or what-not, but for the average commuter who just needs thier car to get them to work/school/movies/restraunts/grocery store/etc. its fine.

The idea of being able to verify all the files on someone's computer adresses the much larger issue of CHEATING. Cheating in multiplayer games has been a huge issue with Half-Life and I think more than anything else valve wanted to make sure all the game files are un-edited to prevent cheatng by hacking the game.
