I bought one of the first gen 15.4 Macbook Pros and I have the damn whining noise (no it's not Jobs, myself or anyone else in the room... I've checked). Apple needs to do better testing with these machines before shipping. The problem is that they are to secretive about their designs and won't allow intensive testing.
Good luck to those affected and getting Apple to admit they fucked up. They sure won't do it for me. My suggestion is to avoid the so called 'genius bar' at their retail stores. Some of them can be nice and helpful as well as knowledgable but others are just asshats who have no business working tech support, IMHO.
I've got one. It is a very nice machine but it suffers from the strange high pitched whine.
It's not bad, just a little irritating.
Everyone should have a mac, just wait for the second generation hardware to arrive before getting one.
"We have many PC partners who serve their markets exceedingly well and we see no need to enter that market," a Google spokesman told Times Online. "We would rather partner with great companies."
They haven't denied anything. They have stated that they aren't going to be making a PC. That doesn't deny the OS or a machine that could be backed with the Google Brand name. I'm going to wait until Friday and see how this turns out with CEO-guy's keynote at CES.
This is why you take a friend with you so that when you are about to hit an objct the friend yells "What the hell are you thinking? WAKE UP!!" And you promptly swirve and such. Good friends don't let other friends run into other motorists or objects,
What I want to know is each candidates position on reinstituting the draft.
As someone who is going to be up for selective service once the new president is in office, I am very concerned about this subject. I also miss the election by a few weeks.
So I have to deal with the reprocutions of whoever is in office although I don't get to vote.
Obviously we here at slashdot are a bit on the techie side. I know that I have personally watched my rights being taken away from me over the past few years. Mainly my right to fair use. Under current law it is illegal to watch CSS encoded DVDs under Linux or any other Open Source operating system. What are you and your party's feelings on loosening certain restrictions to make the act of fair use a right again.
Also, on the concept of intellectual property and copyright laws. What are your party's and your feelings on the current trend of extending the length of copyright terms? Do you have any plans to reverse the current trend or perhaps to set the lengths back to their original terms?
You slashdoted the N. Korea site. Do you have any idea how bad that could be? Jebus Cricket people, you can't just go around launching weapons of mass destruction at websites you don't like... Gah....
I am allowed to uninstall any apps I install with a Linux distro unlike with Windows XP which ships with a version of MSN messenger that cannot be removed without a service pack upgrade.
Those in charge of sacking the Sun Ultra Moose V have been sacked......Those in charge of sacking the previous sackers hav enow been sacked as well. The processor race will now end in an entirely different manner from the way in which it began.
I am a student at the North Carolina school of Science and Math (S&M for short, no joke.). I am guessing that you have heard of the school seeing that Redhat HQ isn't too far away. Also, from my understanding you have many alumni from S&M working for Redhat. I am curious as to what happened to Redhat's educational programs as a result of the split up with Fedora. I mean, the educational community probably needs more a desktop than a workstation to mess on, people who see a Linux machine in terminal mode often get scared and run in fear but in X/GUI mode they are a bit more willing to touch it and explore the system. What are your opinions on getting people to learn Linux? I think a desktop oriented OS is needed personally.
PS: Would it be possible for Redhat to provide some enterprise software for the UNIX (really it's Linux) lab here at S&M? It would help benefit that whole image of giving back to the community for Redhat and I'm sure you could also gain some future employees if you start training them now.
Hello, Slashdotter. You have to ask a question and though there is no proof of SCO's claims, you remain irrevocably inquisitive. Ergo, the answer I give, you may understand, or, there is a chance that you may not. Concordantly, while your question may be very pertinent, you may or may not realize it is also completely irrelevant. Where is the code? My current status is the result of an unbalanced equation inherent in my kernel. I am currently succumbing to the eventuality of having to pay $699, despite my hardest efforts, I've been unable to eliminate from what is otherwise a harmony of my kernels code. While it remains a burden acidulously avoided, it is not unexpected and sometimes very needed in order for my kernel to function correctly, thus leading me, inexorably, to pay SCO their $699 so that I do not have to deal with the anomoly of SCO's code.
What if it lands on its side? Does RMS own the code in this rare event? Or wait, is it even possible for him to own code? I swear I read somewhere in the GPL that he couldn't own code.
How does Congress plan on having the soldiers use all of this if we are putting 400 billion into defense and only 40 into education? What good is fancy equipment if you have idiot soldiers to use it?
IMO, the worlds leaders should be brought togethor and shot.
If only they had done it to Everquest. I can just see the mass suicide that would have taken place after all the Evercrack junkies find out that their accounts have to be reset.

Why are we still using oil? Why must we support oil tycoons when we can all have milk and power our homes at the same time? I am off to find Jack and trade him some beans for a cow!
Why did they cancel Farscape, a perfectly good SF series, only to redo BSG and show more Stargate? And not only that, what was the Sci-Fi channel showing Braveheart, yes that Braveheart, for? I like Mel and all but Braveheart has nothing to do with SF. I think someone needs to tell whoever is running this channel to ignore ratings and show quality stuff.
I just finished reading Children of Dune and if the mini series can get Leto in his sand trout stil suit correct then it will be worth it. So far my only problem is that they consolidated the second two books. Bastards.
George Zebrowski wrote a book about mining asteroids. The book was called Brute Orbits. Strange and alarming part is what that did with the asteroids after they had been mined. They shot prisoners into a timed orbit....God only knows what the Bush administration will do.

Just imagine a whole cluster of these.

Anyone else notice that this was marked as a 'handhelds' story. I can't find how it is related to handhelds though...

Still doesn't prove shit for SCO's claim other than digital cameras are getting smaller and easier to hide.
