  1. Don't get too excited yet on Cheap 3D Motion Sensing System Developed At MIT · · Score: 1

I actually presented a poster next to Ramesh Raskar at CHI earlier this month. While a very interesting project, he seemed to indicate that it was still very much a work in progress.

  2. The Trifecta of F on Futurama to be Resurrected? · · Score: 1, Funny

Have you ever noticed this? If the show is on Fox, is good, and if its title begins with F, it is f*cked. Family Guy, Futurama, Firefly. If this is true, though, 2/3 of the trifecta will have been resurrected. But we all know Firefly is never coming back.

  3. Was he trying NOT to sound greedy? on Music Exec Fires Back At Apple CEO · · Score: 1

Because he reminded me of Jabba the Hutt. Come on, Apple! He just wants to share your revenue!

  4. USA on International Call for Open Standards · · Score: 3, Insightful

The USA can't even accept the metric system, so I don't understand how everyone keeps expecting it to embrace all this newfangled 'open source' stuff. Open source needs to get in line.

  5. Where?! on Attack of the $1 DVDs · · Score: 2

I've seen some of those DVDs at a local Half Price Books for around $9. If I was at all interested in any of them, I would be getting robbed! Oh, the scandal!

  6. Yeah, whatever... on Sci-Fi Channel Picks Up Firefly · · Score: 1

The REAL question is whether or not they're going to make new episodes. Did they buy the repeat rights or the rights entirely?

  7. much more smaller? on The Rise and Fall of Blogs · · Score: 1

What we need is the Newsmaking Industry Association of America to start heckling them, then. I mean, it's their news. Who are we to take it from them? I say DAMN the news pirates, for grabbing good American newscasting from the hands of major broadcasters!

  8. I wonder how... on Independent Cartoonists Band Together for Success · · Score: 4, Interesting

I wonder how Wiley will mock them this time? He sure didn't seem to think much of Scott Kurtz when he offered his strips to newspapers for free.

  9. Only 300 euros! on Fan Group Creates Full-Length Discworld Movie · · Score: 1

And that's cuttin' their own throats, that is.

  10. don't SCARE me like that on Verizon and Microsoft Partner for IPTV · · Score: 1

I thought they were coming to take over Iowa Public Television.

I don't think anything could make a week-long pledge run more unbearable than a phone company and interspersed BSODs.

  11. My life, the universe, everything culminating. on 2004 MN4 Asteroid Odds Inching Up Again · · Score: 1

It will be my 42nd year. (cringe)

  12. Roald Dahl on War of the Worlds, Chocolate Factory Trailers · · Score: 1

I have been a fan of his writing as long as I can remember, and I am giddy at the thought of Burton doing an interperetation of it. Burton's work is as weird as Dahl's is twisted, and I think their styles will play off each other well. That is, if there is any of the book left when Burton gets done with it. I'm sure it will be alright.

I've always wanted, though, to see some of Roald Dahl's short stories brought to the big screen. In my opinion they are his best work, and a movie with around seven of them would be awesome. "Skin" has a great ending and would do well in the theater, as would "The Landlady." Are there any producers reading?

And now, damn that Spielberg, I have to go read "War of the Worlds" before the movie comes out.

  13. Re:MMORPG's on Review: World of Warcraft · · Score: 1

If I remember my beta experience correctly, the movement control scheme changes depending on which mouse button you hit to walk. With one of them, the mouse simply looks around, independant of the actual walking. With the other, the direction of the walking will change depending on where you look.
It was useful for long straight-line journeys and repeatedly glancing at the shaders on the ground.

  14. Re:Farking AT&T on Review: World of Warcraft · · Score: 1

Why was this post modded down? If it is helpful, why not just leave it at 1?

  15. I feel good. on Intel Quietly Adopts AMD's x86-64 · · Score: 1

I can't help but feel smug about this. Intel stood on the sidelines saying

"Oh you don't NEED 64 bits and please note how we have more mhz"

while AMD was actually doing something and said

"Well, you know, 64 is TWO TIMES 32, and you can get some RIGHT HERE."

    Intel roadmap:
    1. Whine
    2. Bitch
    3. Moan
    4. Conform

  16. Hah, wow. on Can't Draw? You Need The Inkulator 9000. · · Score: 1

I thought it would be cool if it was a program that would just draw you something, but it seems like it requires the even more advanced skill of creating wire meshes. As a frequent drawer, I think this is definitely a situation where I could use a meaningful and cliched saying, but I can't think of what I was going to say. Awaaaay!

  17. I do not pretend to understand. on Open-Destination Quantum Teleportation · · Score: 2, Funny

But it sounds a whole lot like Ender's Game. When will I be able to buy an Ansible from my local radioshack?

  18. I doubt it. on Can Infinium Compete In The Game Console Market? · · Score: 2, Informative

This is everything that people are currently fighting against. With a content system that is dependant on and monitored by a third party, I can't see anyone wanting to use this for very long. Not to mention the fact that it is strongly reminiscent of a pc; if piracy ever gained a foothold, it would be over. I think it will end up as a sturdy support for your N-Gage to rest on.

  19. Crap. on PowerBook G4 Battery Recall · · Score: -1, Troll

I thought that having molten metal seeping into my shorts was part of the 'mac experience'.

  20. Re:how much on Speculation About An Apple Tablet · · Score: 1

I doubt that it will actually be a tablet. We've been hearing rumors about the next iMac being headless... maybe this is just a portable screen? If that is the case, I can totally see them being sold separately. It's because Apple loves money.

  21. Re:Oh no! on SCO Linux Licenses Could Increase In Price · · Score: 5, Funny

You know, I was just thinking about switching to a free OS. It's a good thing that this was on slashdot or I would have ended up paying more than I needed to.

  22. Jobs' Dirty Secret on Steve Jobs Undergoes Cancer Surgery · · Score: 5, Funny

Jobs' Unreplaceable Pancreas Lasts Only 588 Months!!

  23. Re:20gb = no dock! on iPod Generation 4 Released · · Score: 1

I have found that it is beyond easy to control my 2g iPod without removing it from my pocket. I don't even need the remote; I just know where the buttons are. This new click wheel should bring that option back again; just try it, it's a lot easier than you may think. Of course, this is all in-playlist navigation. To switch albums or playlists or crap like that I still take the thing out of my pocket, but you'd have to with the remote too.

  24. Re:Out of the ordinary on New iPod Design Pictures Leak · · Score: 1

Agreed; logically, the marketer's wet dream would be to have to advertise a product that does the job itself.

  25. Too bad... on The Difficulties of Patent Busting · · Score: 5, Funny

It's a shame how Einstein had to go into physics; we really needed him at the patent office. What a waste.
