For more advanced users, the free version of Agnitum Outpost is better. You can customize which hosts/ports incoming or outgoing to allow on individual programs. But yes, any firewall program at all (which can block outgoing, and which is even a little customizable) is better than relying on Windows XP's firewall:) (or no firewall at all!)
I've always used Miranda IM (AIM, ICQ, MSN, Jabber, Yahoo) rather than Gaim (I hate its messaging style:) ), and never have looked at Trillian. I have not heard of AGP, Grisoft AVG you meant? For text editors, I usually use EditPad Lite Everyone has their own preferences and likes.:)
From Merriam Webster: 1 : in a literal sense or manner : ACTUALLY 2 : in effect : VIRTUALLY usage Since some people take sense 2 to be the opposite of sense 1, it has been frequently criticized as a misuse. Instead, the use is pure hyperbole intended to gain emphasis, but it often appears in contexts where no additional emphasis is necessary.
Well, we'll just have to call on all privateers in this sector to help blast them out of the sky, won't we? Maybe the space pirates will even help if we bribe them with money!
Also a hint for using it, generally just typing something in will work. But if you want to search for something like "slashdot.org", you may have to use keyword:"slashdot.org" instead. Firefox will want to interpret it as a web address otherwise.
I use MSN, ICQ, AIM, and Yahoo.. and, so, I know people on all four.:) I know most on ICQ, but then I only used ICQ for a long time. If I had used the other networks for as long as I used ICQ, I do not know which list would have more people..
I wish more games had co-op play.. I see more and more games that have singleplayer and deathmatch, but no cooperative, or even deathmatch but no bots.
For cooperative play, I guess it is level design (scripted events, hallways smashing closed behind you, doors closing and locking behind you, etc.). Couldn't they at least put magic cooperative-play teleporters or something in these games?
This is one good reason not to use the official IM clients.;) Trillian, Gaim, Miranda IM are apparently good (I've only used Miranda IM though). Of course they may not all support *all* the options the official clients do. (e.g. ICQ and AIM and MSN group chat is absent from Miranda IM AFAIK, though others can start a MSN group chat with you)
Firefox (and Mozilla I think) do something right on that. With software installation enabled, you still get a pop-up about "http://such and such wants to install such and such", but the "OK" button is disabled for 3 seconds. I like that.
But yes, I've had it happen before. Typing, typing, press enter or the exact wrong key.. "What in the world did that window say?"
Or I've seen it happen in say, Neverwinter Nights, you're doing something, say pressing escape to close your inventory (as I do). But just before you get an "invite to party" 'window' and you've accidentally declined.;b
That's one thing I'd like to be able to change about Linux/BSD. When I press the eject button on my CD drive, I want it ejected. I don't care if I have files open, something is reading it at the time, etc., I want to eject it. Aren't there any options to change the behavior?
On my 17" CRT monitor (at 1024x768), I have difficulty reading white on black with most fonts. The text just looks too thin and "spidery". Changing the background to a dark gray (even a very dark gray) helps a lot. I've not experienced the "phantom" lines, though I use black text on white often (on webpages in general, e.g. Slashdot).
I actually have had my default window colors set as black on very light gray for some time now. I find it easier to read than black on pure white.
Neverwinter Nights seems to have a low FOV (if I zoom/pan in behind the character's head, can't see things to the side well at all). On the other end, Aliens vs Predator (1 and 2) have a high (zoomed out) FOV if you play an alien. I think I even played Quake with a low FOV just to try it.. I haven't become naseous from any of these games, though. I wonder if HL2 would..

Everyone has their own preferences and likes.
Ahh, I have one of these. :) Indeed, I always used the black outer part of the directional control.
From Merriam Webster:

The word literal began to suck some time ago.

You could use ctrl-tab and ctrl-shift-tab to cycle through the tabs.. or at least that works in Windows.
I did not know this. But then, I use easyGestures and kind of middle-click/drag to close tabs. ;)
I use that as well, it is from the Firefox Tips & Tricks.

Let's have a normal TV show, where people that suggest the creation of reality shows get launched into space to be astronaut food. :D
What's worse is when you have a comedy show where the word fuck, or others, are used so often that all of the "beeps" just ruin it.
Oh, so it's not a case of programming your way out of a paper bag, you have to program your way out of your room/house. ;)
Just keep floating around until the show "Big" comes up with a giant car.
Ah, The Penguin had some of those. ;)
GameFAQs is a site I view for user-posted reviews (but moreso, walkthroughs/FAQs/codes).

Yes, I understand that, but it should be an option for those who will never ever ever be using it as a multiuser OS (and/or sharing their CD drive).

Ooh. Fighting over the remote will never be the same. ;)
