One good example not mentioned: Maddox's The Best Page in the Universe prides itself on a very simple design and he gets a gillion hits. Not to mention he only uses a subdomain of his ISP.
What is happening to the right to fire? We're not even talking non-union workers here. A company, public and private too, ought to be able to fire in accordance with that sole law of maximizing shareholder wealth for public companies -- If the given employee is not helping an organization pursue that goal, that should be cause enough.
This sounds facetiously pessimistic, but the next time you're on an 800 number and you manage to get a hold of a human, ask them where they are. So often you will get India or they'll refuse to answer.
Remember the movie Wall Street? When a company is rumored to be bought, its stock will most likely go up substantially because investors know the company will cut overhead, largely in the form of layoffs. Expect that to happen here. So I'm not optimistic about support but that doesn't mean that the quality of the technology will diminish, perhaps even the opposite as the new owner has the interest and the cash money to step up R&D or acquisitions of other similar companies.
I, for one, welcome our web behavior-tracking overlords. Seriously -- as a consumer I have no problem with data being harvested about what I do. It just might cause an ad broker to pop a relavent one in front of me leading to buy something and boost my quality of life. Where's the downside? Machines looking over my shoulder and putting me into pie charts? As a web publisher, I'm glad to know the demographics my access log reveals as I for example pump up traffic from my top referrers as they'd be the most efficient for my time/dollar.
I'm surprised to see people going in the opposite direction that GTA did insofar as raciness considering they had the most successful game. Perhaps it wasn't just GTA's R-ratedness that made it such a hit but the quality of the game itself, and it appears that EA and other companies agree if they're making games about microbes in lieu of cop/whore/pedestrian killer games.
I'd like to get my ol' lady using Linux without freaking her out too much. Which desktop environment is best at looking like Windows? Is there some addition to KDE or Gnome that has an XP theme?
But what will happen if we rock the food chain boat like this, overfeeding the bacteria, to the point that they grow exponentially in population? Would you for one welcome our Lead-Pooping Overlords then?
I'm glad to see other countries widely adopting Linux, but it seems a disporportionate number is coming from the rest of the world versus the US (with the occasional exception). Is this because the US is somehow more open-source-close-minded and anti free (and better tasting) lunches?
That's a lot of calculations per second, but other than satisfying man's desire to have the biggest or fastest thing on the block, what possible uses of real value, other than decryption, could this thing bring to the table? Quicker searching for prime numbers? Weather modeling? SETI@Home nonsense?
And does anyone have an update on the Jap's supersonic jet project? Last story I remember was a model crashing in Australia. Go Japan!
If I get him a kidney transplant, it'll give him another few years. I live in Manhattan where an operation like this is cost-prohibitive, but I'm willing to drive wherever it takes to get this done. Any of you know where I can get a cheap kitty kidney? My dog's getting old -- can cats accept k-9 organs? Thanks, sorry to get off topic.
Minix comes to mind as it was and is designed to work on old machines (at least a 386 with 8MB of ram). It's not as "mature" as the other *nixes of course but you can turn trash into servers with it.
They could get this participation just by asking for it [in #debian]. I bet what's going on here is Sun is hopping on the wagon of companies that are "reaching out" to The Community, just like Yahoo did recently by handing out those relatively obscure web programming tools. I'm not sure why this is a valuable thing to do.

Glad to see the blind getting some vaperhope, but might this process have potential to repair spinal damage?
Will this successor be successful in placating the higher ups in my office if I start converting XP machines to use this instead of MS's equiv?

More interesting still is Hammacher Schlemmer's remote control UFO. It's not the one with the camera but the price is right.

Bet they use one of these babies in their detective work.
could someone kindly link a page that demos ajax's features?
At least in the USA, cell phone jammers are illegal. Because this paint isn't emitting signals to accomplish the same purpose, could it be legal?
Fuck TFA.
And does anyone have an update on the Jap's supersonic jet project? Last story I remember was a model crashing in Australia. Go Japan!
Yes it does make sense, and the voters should be given the right to choose.
That's a reference to The Terminator, fyi people.

That happened in August '04 when Google went public, thereby letting their purpose be defined by the law as "to increase shareholder wealth."

Why do you need one for anyway? You've already gotten FP with what you've got.

They clearly won the beer competition. They bought up all the beer ad space to silence the competition.
