Right now if you buy a DRM'd WMA file from ANY online store, the DRM itself gives you certain permissions, such as the number of computes you can have it play on. Right nOw I think its 5 for Music Match. The Microsoft source clearly statest that this will still work perfectly. Its talking about not being able to back up the licences. Which for most "idiots", who everyone here seems to be so concerned about, shouldn't affect them at all. THEY WILL NOT NOTICE ANYTHING CHANGED. Every thing will be exactly as it was before, except now the people who don't like DRM are even more upset because the people who use it lost an option they will NEVER notice.
I think you have a typo there. If the Copy Protect Music Option is on, doesn't that imply that it can be turned off? Therefore, it can be disabled. Or possibly are you saying that microsoft can't disable the option?
Very simular to my expereince even though it was 2004. I managed to persist in getting a working system, kde and everything. BUt it got to be too much portage was almost always broken for what I wanted. I had to google for missing packages to get stuff to install. Im using SUSE right now, but its giving me crap as well. I haven't had time to mess with it, I think I can fix it. If not then I'll give Debian another try. Suse was the only one I could get other than Gentoo to work on this box. Its not there fault really, there's some serious hardware problem with my DVD drive. I'll get a new one before trying another install.
So what Brittish companies can we ridicule with the £?
Obviously ££oyds of £ondon
Lets think... there's the £and Rover, although not really Brit owned now.
Virgin Air£ines?
Che£sea footba££ C£ub?
anything that has Eng£and in its name
How could anyone forget the Roya£ Fami£y?
GlaxoSmithK£ine is Brittish based and thats a good one, a drug company we know they on£y care about money
Uni£ever is also Brittish
Those are great. Don't make fun of me? While they are doing that? Hillarious. And No, I really think its their problem that this happend. Let's go dutch! Do you think people would undestand me If I did that in Japan?
I don't care who knows. That was incredible. Camp, yes, but beautiful for what it was. I loved those dancing icons in the background. Stil, it was missing something, or it was too long. It started off good, but it needs to turn it up to 11 to give it that extra kick. Let me know if you find any more of those.
I don't think I did. Probely because I agree with him. Plus, he's not running for Illinois Govener . That will really make it hard for him to win. I'm just saying, I'm not voiting one of the two parties for Illinois Govener. For other elections, I will look at the cannadites and vote for the best one. I'm not telling anyone what to do that's a choice I have to make based upon the way I see things. I'm not going to vote for the lesser of two evils. Will I change anything, probely not. Will I ever spell probelbly correctly? Again, no chance.
Exit polls are not reliable enough. If an exit poll tells you 80% of a precint voted for Mr A, and the votes say only 40 % did, you might have a case of fraud. but if 53% said they voted Mr A and only 46% did there is less certanty. It would be interesting to investigate the discrepencies. Once cast, the votes are properly looked after. If it turns out they weren't, then you have proof of wrong doing. Or perhaps just an even more screwed up system. But its better than looking at exit poll discrepencies by themselves.
I think we both agree the sytem sucks and it should be improved. To learn about conspiracies, just take a look at the ones we already have JFK's assasination, Roswell, and the face in Mars, ect.. You can find all sorts of weird things about any complex event when looked at by a microscope. But you have to maintain scientific rigor. Its not that I don't think the republicans wanted to throw the results of the election, I think both parties ahve demonstrated a willingness to do that, but I don't think they are capable of doing it. They aren't the CIA, or the Navy Seals, each of which are imensly less capable than some conspiracy theorist would have you believe ( see 9/11 and the invasion of Panama). No one was capable of throwing the elections on a national scale. This isn't Ukraine. Every idiot has a video camera ( see youtube) and there were election officials every where and lawyers for both parties. I just don't think the Justice League PLUS the X-men were capable of it. Besides, if they were capable of it, then why wouldn't they have fixed the exit pols as well to make them coincide with the fake vote count? I would argue that would be equally difficult.
Be careful of wanting to remove the party form power, just because they deserve it. Wnating to remove the Democrats after LBJ gave us Nixon.
I realize I'm just complaining. We both think the system needs to be fixed. We don't really disagree about anything too important at this point. I don't have any plans to change anything, I'm just upset at not having a real choice. make up your own mind.
And from EEF,zdnet and Slahsdot. Who would have guessed?
Microsoft has not said that it will not work with protected DRM. They simply say inthe press release
Import your music. Zune software can automatically import your existing music, pictures and videos from iTunes and Windows Media® Player in a variety of formats, including your existing playlists and song ratings, as permitted by the online service from which it was purchased.4
and then the footnote says that it will play non encrypted content as well. The quote about advocating the use of DVD rippers makes it seem as if microsoft is not allowing protected video content. Thats crap. The quote was ment to reassure people that it would support non protected formats as well. In addition to. This whole story is crap, without a direct coment from microsoft directly answering the question at hand. You wouldn't accept this kind of reporting from microsoft or its allies about open source, so why accept a lower quality of journalism from the other side?
Who is asking me to trust them? I don't know, everyone running for political office? ya think?
democrocy should be people following the rules, not trying to hijack the process. I'm just observing the point that the system stinks all the way down to your next door neighbor with the anti/pro bush stickers on his car. Thats craptocracy, not a honest discussion of differnces in policy.
I'm highlighting the fact that elections are controlled on a very local level. I have no doubt there was fraud on election day. Am I supposed to like the democrats more becuase they were less successful then they were in 1960? I want change, darn it. Its not a national story yet, but Illinois is a prime example of the screwed up political system. Our previous govener is in the slammer for corruption, CUrrent one, of opposite party is under federal investigation for corruption( from the evidence collected by the chicago tribue it seems pretty clear he's guilty). I voted the old crook out, and a new one in. The next election is between the guy under investigation or a long time member of the previous govener's administration. I'll have to vote third party, cause I couldn't live with myself voting for either one.
If the republicans conspired on a national level to steal the election, of course they should be punished, all the wrongs should be righted ect, ect... But you actually have to prove it was possible, and actually achived. Exit polls are not relieable. See Florida 2000 for more info. If all we needed was exit polls, why actually vote? I think we agree that the system is broke and needs to be fixed. I just have a higher burden of proof.
Remember, never assign to malice what can be easily explained by mass stupidity.
I wouldn't asy the story is bogus outright, but I don't trust *any* of the political parties. My relatives are election judges ( the members themselves are fairly fluid as to their political affiliation voting for regan, then bush I, clinton, Dole, Bush II, and then Kerry) who were discusted with what they saw in 2004 by both parties. It was all local grass root partisan crap. Each Parties Observers kept challenging everything, the local party lawers were called in several times. It was weird stuff, In Wisconson, where its legal to register and vote at the same time, One party's operatives brought in a busload of people from a mental institiution who tried to use had writen birthday cards to establish residency, identification, and age. The other party, in apparent retaliation went to a retirement home and picke up a buch of people, most of which had already registered and voted at the same polling place. it was a mad house, in the southern Wisconson, Northern Illinois area. I wouldn't be suprised if it was repeated elsewhere, but I really couldn't blame any party more than the other. You'd thin that on a local level politics would be more civil, but you'd be wrong. I hate them both. Don't blame me, I voted for Kronos.
Ok let me take a poll
How many people will buy a zune ?
Ok of those select few, how many have CC content they are or were planning to put on the zune ?
Is anyone's hand up? Furthermore, it would be the end users that would violate the CC license, not microsoft. I can violate the licence today with Microsoft Media Player. Why doesn't CC sue microsoft for allowing users to violate the licese that way? Zune just makes it easier to violate the licese CC doesn't have a say and doens't ahve a leagal leg to stand on. The whol anti DRM thing on slashdot has gotten way out of hand. There are many artists who awnt this kind of protection for their music. They are stuggling to make ends meet and tak to fans who tell them they burned copies of their cd's and gave them to all their friends. These bands are on INDEPENDANT labels, not covered by RIAA. Its an option, let people choose to use it or not use it. Microsoft added a feature that previously didn't exist amoung mp3 players and wanted to make sure that no one used it to violate the artists rights. It just means that you will have to distrubute CC licences files some other way, possibly the same way you are doing right now!
I couldn't help but notice this discussion thread. You might be a smart guy and a brilliant programer, but your social skills are really lacking. You need to know when to hold back. Working with other people and learning to take real or implied insults with out childishly returning them IS a part of any non trivial job. If you are confident in who you are and what you do, you have nothing to prove to some random strangers on slashdot. You might also just want to ask questions instead of posting vb code. Its just part of the rules here. If you want to impress people here you'll have to do it in another language ( c, perl, python, bash, assembly, heck even regular basic)
They ( in this case China is a different matter) haven't done evil yet. They paid money to a company. That company has done bad things, but hasn't done any for google yet. Maybe google is paying them to do good. If people paid thime to do good, they wouldn't have time to do bad. Sort of like methadone.
And thats why Linus can't code Java;) Its a good thing that whole Linux thing turned out ok for him. I'd hate to image him having to find a job with just those three on his resume.
2006 called, it just wanted to let you know that its still true. How do I know, Oh, I don't know maybe its because of my volenteer work with teenagers for the past ten years. Its just that RPG's and espeically multiplayer ones are used as a form of socialising outside the accepted nomality. It brings in people who have difficulty expressing themselves and need to hide behind alter egos. Its not that fantasy and rpgs are wrong or stupid, its just it attracts a certain crowd that seeks an alternative identity to the normal one because they can't imagine themselves in the normal one. That being said there are many normal people probley as your self that this doesn't apply to. It is a sterotype that is not always true. WOW is more accepted because when people don't knwo what it is, you can tell them its a video game. Just about everyone has played one at some point and it seems less wierd. I've met many many adults that were not "d&d gamers" that play WOW. WOW is huge. "real gamers" who brag about being "real gamers" really don't affect people who don't want to be "real gamers".
Ok, now for the revelation. Yes I was a D&D player back in the day. And Shadowrun. But I also had normal friends and did normal things with them. And yes they made fun of me for playing D&D. And yes I made fun of myself for playing. No I don't play WOW cause I'm against subscription based games and I want to keep mor etime for doing other things. I don't think I could compete or really enter in the virtual world, I think I'ma ddicted to the real one..... where I post on Slashdot.....
That is funny, but man that's agood idea as well. Although, you might be better off just setting up a 80211.A network. It would be cheaper and newbs would be less likely to have the cards.
WIkipedia states that it was not turing complete, although some programing was achivable by rewiring. But isn't it ironic that the computer that Turing helped create wasn't turring complete?
The death of Pluto as a planet is going to be a watershed moment in my, albeit sad, life. No longer can I dwell in childish thoughts of a small comet like body with an excentric orbit being a planet. There are definitions after all. Definitions are an important part of adult life. I can't carry on wearing a cape and claiming to be superman anymore. Its time to stop pretending that my stick is a sword and my coconut percussion is a hourse. Yes, its time to put away such childish thoughts that led to Pluto's planetary status. A world of progress and commerce awaits us bold explorers who dare to stare into the blindingly obvious truth and confront it for what it is. Changing the definition is out of the question. We've matured now, ripped off the band-aid of addolesence in one quick, but fluid motion. As much as we would like to remove the bitting sting of pulling out a dozen arm hairs, we know deep in our hearts that we are better off as we are than as we were. Alas poor Pluto, I hardly knew thee, but though hast gone to a better place. A place where you can be amougnst your own kind. You were my favorite Planet, its true, but now you start a new life abielt less a less glamourus one. You'll forever be my favorite planet, dwarf or otherwise. I'll think of you fondly and call you every other weekend.
Its about damn time Euope stopped stealing all of our warm tropical water.
