    1) I'm filling out an application.
    2) You are reading my signature.
    3) You are reading my notes.

In any of those instances I could actually careless if you can read my handwriting. I hate cursive I always have. I remember my grandmother used to write me letters in cursive. I just stopped reading them because it wasn't worth the eye strain.

I don't know what good reason there is for writing in cursive. I've never heard of one. It just seems to be something that is anachronistic and has no place in a modern society.

To all the dinosaurs who still insist that writing in cursive is important: You can think that but I'm never going to bother read anything you write.

I wouldn't expect anyone to ever sign an NDA without knowing what they are getting into. I don't recall the article, but it basically said any company who signs an NDA like that is opening themselves to liability. That's why most will not even discuss ideas so that you cannot later take them to court for stealing your idea. If you want to discuss an idea and they already have 2 years of research into the exact same thing they are opening themselves to the liability of a lawsuit from you. The same apparently goes for music companies.

If the ISP's get their way they won't give a shit if it's fair to the customer so long as they don't start loosing business.

So the poll question may be "fair", but the reflection of reality certainly isn't going to be true.

Now the OP on the other hand has an obvious preference for becoming management. It is as plain as day in how he worded his question. I think what he's really asking for is forgiveness for going to the dark side or at least some understanding.

So yes you can become management but it at that point you have become a sell out, not that there's anything wrong with that.

Turns out the GPS is a little slow to come on. But for the price it is great for its other functions. At least from what I read. In reality I ended up buying an Android G1. I don't so much use it as a cellphone, but it makes a wonderful PDA with which I can make SIP calls, if I choose. The G1 definitely has a smaller screen, but what it offered in CPU power and programmability through the JAVA platform that Google and friends developed made it worth it. I can write my own apps and widgets for it. As far as being a PDF reader... that's a big no for the momement. I'm not sure about the n810's ability to view PDF's.

Congratulations you answered your own question in the very same post you posed it in.

There is no "buying" asterisk, it's open source. At most you will need an FXS card/box. The FXS card allows you to ring your house phones. If you want to deal with a real land line you need an FXO card.

Using the FollowMe feature in Asterisk will give you exactly what you ask for. In all you shouldn't have to spend more then $300 on the card and computer. Best part is you can keep using the same house phones you've had all along. (SIP phones cost $90+)

Your ideal setup would be a cellphone with a friends and family package where you pick a number you get unlimited calls to. Setup a SIP account through one of the many services. This will give you a callable number. Pick this as your number in your friends and family package. Connect the asterisk box to the sip account. You can now call home to your asterisk box over the internet for free, you can then call out again using your asterisk box to any other sip user for free or to any other landline for a small charge depending on the service (typically $0.01/min).

  18. Re:Linux, Macs, and Windows PCs on Ballmer Scorns Apple As a $500 Logo · · Score: 2, Interesting

In my situation my company purchased my laptop. Now I was given a choice, laptop or desktop, whatever I wanted within a reasonable budget. Now for some odd reason I chose the MacBook Pro.

Given the pick of any laptop, isn't that the one you would pick? Throw on top of that one of the most stable and easy to use operating systems I've ever experienced. I can't think of a reason you would want to use anything else. I could put windows on it if I wanted to.

Setting cost aside what machine do you really want? Considering the life of the unit would you rather have the machine you want or just make do with whatever machine was the cheapest? I use this laptop every day of my life (sad I know) why not shell out that extra $500 for the reason the machine is worth it. Like in my MacBook Pro's case solid construction, great keyboard, great track pad, easy to view screen, accessible peripheral ports. I've never had to replace a part on this machine except for the power supply which suffered a cord injury. My only real complaint about this machine is how warm it gets, but its either sitting on a laptop pad, or on my desk.

Now compare this to my previous experience owning a Dell Inspiron. The Inspiron was bought on a budget a lot smaller then the MacBook Pro budget. In all in the first year of owning the laptop I replaced the following under warranty:
    Modem 3x
    Motherboard 2x
    Screen 1x
    Keyboard 2x

Owning the Inspiron was pure hell. Add on top of that having to deal with Windows and the number of driver issues the machine had I never wanted to buy a Dell again (nor have I).

So after two and half years of owning this MacBook Pro I still have a complete working machine with no hardware issues with nothing ever having to be replaced.

Here is what I have noticed regarding computer (and auto) manufacturers. As of late they have moved to a business model where they create a product that lives through its warranty period and not much longer after that. At which point it costs a considerable amount of money to repair or replace. Now Apple on the other hand has always striven to build a solid product. I respect them for this. There are certain aspects I don't like about Apple, like Steve Jobs for instance, but this amount of dislike absolutely pales in comparison to that for Microsoft and other PC manufacturers.

In the coming years in the tightening of the economy I predict the successful companies will return to making quality products that last longer. Mainly due to people realizing they can't economically replace their laptop/car every 3 years.

I am not a Mac Fanboi. I simply found something that works better then windows/PC could ever dream of. If I don't have the option of Mac OS X on the "appropriate" hardware then my next choice is Ubuntu for its simplicity. I've personally switched 12 friends and family to using it exclusively.
