Because they're often bundled in with software that does do what people want and this fact is hidden deep in the EULA. (Which would arguably make them trojans, not "virii")
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is "Never start a land war in Asia", but only slightly less well known is this: "Never bet with a Sicilian when Death is on the line!"
Just in case this gets modded as a troll, it is true. If you enjoy Orson Scott Card's books, do yourself a favor and never read his essays. But if you really want to: here's one.
Exactly. There are lots of bands out there, if a band you listen to only puts out 0-1 good song an album then you don't like them, do you? Find someone you do like listening to. It always reminds me of the simpsons where homer buys neopolitan ice cream, eats the chocolate part and throws the rest away.
No wonder it's failing, it's one of those ideas that can be argued against just by saying it out-loud. It's a single point of failure sign-on service... controlled by Microsoft.
Less we also not forger that with IM we're relying on a company to provide the service, whereas e-mail has no single point of failure or defunction.
Just a quick point, Jabber is more like email in this regard. Decentralized servers and no single point of failure. Although it's still a moot point until/unless everyone uses it.

This isn't an argument. He wasn't debating, just sharing a quote that touched him personally; that spoke to his own experiences. You're free to disagree, but fundamentally there's no proof either of you could offer. Really the only debate you could have here is "God exists", "No he doesn't", "Yes he does" ect. Seems like a waste of time.
If you're going to talk about sucky William Gibson/Keanu Reeves movies, what about Johnny-Freaking-Mnemonic???

Very true. Although I suppose the question is why Bab 5 got to continue on after it's first season, and really find it's groove, whereas firefly gets canned. For some reason the network just seems to hate certain shows, and try to get them canceled. Preempting them, moving the time slot around, not showing the pilot which sets everything up. Then when the show doesn't do great, they have an excuse to cancel it.
Well, that's the exception, yeah. It smells like a quick cash-in to me. It's not even being developed by Blizzard, they farmed it out to Nihilistic Software. Here's hoping it turns out well, at any rate.
Yes, the brain-in-a-vat concept. Meaning accurate sensory input coming the real world is indistinguishable from your brain being fed input from some false source, such as a dream (Or, evil machines with a shaky grasp of the second law of thermodynamics).
So, yeah, your senses lie to you while in a dream. Possibly even when you read a wavelength-meter pointed at the sky. So, like everything in science, saying "blue light has a wavelength of 475 nm" carries an implied "in our observations, as far as it hasn't been disproved yet" etc.

They were. Didn't help.
Hmm, he only got funny mods though, which don't give you karma.

You'd think, but without fail there are six million odd posts whinging about it. Which is entertaining on it own.
I second that, excellent book. Not as 1337, but one of the characters in the book also considers changing his name to Mr. Pretentious.

Bad news: Ink cartriges are one miiiiiiiilllllon dollars! (Austin Powers voice).
Good news: It comes with a free frogurt!

Try it, they're not exactly the same.

Well, for a good start try listing to the albums Permutation and Supermodified by Amon Tobin. His music is made entirely from samples.

That's not a moon that's a space-station! (I'm very sorry)
Dammit, now I'm gonna have to do that. And I had plans.

As is, ironically enough, poor spelling on slashdot.
I'll give you 1 Triganic Pu, if you're willing to accept it in Ningis.
Ah, so you haven't found the cameras yet.
For your own sake, never ever use Perl.
