Most video games seem to be manufactured in the USA (at least the ones for sale here) if the packaging is to be believed. But yeah, it's not a lot of shit and some kinds of items (clothes come to mind) have become VERY hard to just walk into a store and purchase something that was made here. Even harder if you're looking for clothes made here of non-imported fabrics.
Super Mario 64 is the only game I remember being available the day of launch. Though I guess Pilot Wings 64 might have been available at some stores, but the store I bought mine at only had Mario and this was not uncommon.
Maybe he was talking about HD-DVD support and how Bill Gates has been quoted as saying that they would offer an HD-DVD drive as an upgrade later on. Which seems to be the case, since he mentioned not having to upgrade with the PS3.
Of course, he must not be planning on using the PS3 harddrive if that is the case. Though if Sony were to delay into late 2006 or early 2007 they might also change their mind on packing in the harddrive, which looks pretty damn likely to fail as an addon since that's usually what console addons do.
Once upon a time, civilized people came to the realization that from observation comes conclusion, but now Americans - even educated Americans - are saying we should take a step back here, proceed from a pre-concieved notion, and make up a way for it to be right.
We're not all crazy, honest! Though we might all be saying we should take a step back here, since everyone will benefit from getting some perspective on just how fucking nuts some of us are.
Even if that means something as asinine as to claim that the layers of the earth's crust are all the same age and that 'things just lived at different altitudes' - Apparently inside the layers of rock, though I haven't ever heard how that is explained.
You mean like that "hydrolic assortment" bullshit about how in the "great flood" all the animals got mixed up in the water and then settled into the sediment, with the heavier ones on the bottom since they sank faster?
Which, you know, could be true if everything that is real suddenly turned into make believe.
It is if you have to aggregate desire and turn it into dollars before it can become action. Of course, enough people have to communicate the same set of requirements in a way that it's understood that a group of people are asking for particular functionality.
And a lot of times even if a lot of people want a particular feature but the company doesn't see a large enough profit increase from adding said feature they won't do it. With a lot of apps there is minimal competition and users will continue to buy the software anyway because there isn't someone else to step in and offer an alternative.
Of course, you usually won't see a developer making drastic changes to their software based on their personal ideology and alienating large segments of their user base in the process with closed source commercial software like some OSS projects, that shall remain nameless, do.
An apologist is someone who engages in "apologetics".
From wikipedia: "Apologetics is the field of study concerned with the systematic defense of a position."
Dashboard is obviously the OSX widget thing.
So from this we can come to understand that a "dashboard apologist", while maybe a bit sketchy on the usage, is one who makes a systematic defense of the position that Dashboard isn't a ripoff of Konfabulator. This is in line with modern usage of the word "apologist", but you already knew that.
Maybe not, but some other product filling the same need, likely in a similar way, would have. Likewise, people wouldn't call foul if someone other than Apple had released Dashboard. People love a David-and-Goliath story, even after David gets bought by Yahoo.
And this might be a decent analogy if we were talking about portable digital audio players, but Apple is hardly a "Goliath" in the desktop market, or even the useless desktop widget market. For the former Microsoft is the only "Goliath" and the latter I'm not sure there's even enough of a market to have a dominant player, though if there is Apple has certainly not been at it long enough to default to the position.
Who really cares though? This is just another useless flamebait thread on Slashdot. I'm still not sure what real use there is for these things other than milking all those unused clock cycles.
I could[n't] care less about how something looks on Linux, I care if it works well.
Agreed, but the whole issue of the new GTK2 file dialogs (new compared to the old one) is a major problem. It doesn't work like anything else and is a complete pain in the ass to use, which like the visual "integration" I couldn't care less about if it didn't degrade usability.
At least the old one worked well while not visually integrating into my KDE system. The new one is so bad that I've started migrating away from any software that uses it, which is incredibly annoying with GIMP since there isn't really anything comparable to replace it with.
And yes, haters (not parent), most stuff does just work on Linux these days. And the same rules apply for buying hardware on Linux as on any other system, you should read about the product before purchasing it. If you're buying hardware TO USE ON LINUX and you didn't check to see if it'd work first, complaining about it is the same as buying a piece of hardware for windows that performs poorly and then whining that its performance sucks.
There's at least lip service to enforcement at places like Target and Toys R Us, though I don't think many of them bother. I know I wouldn't for the 50 cents or less over minimum most of the guys selling these games are making.
But then again, if you're leaving the video game purchasing decisions of your children up to a 20-year-old kid working at a game shop making minimum wage then you should probably be out back getting shot instead of having children in the first place.
OK, I'll let you off the hook, the real reason the punish system exists is to punish team killers that go out of their way to TK. THAT'S why it exists.
Actually, the punishment system exists because of accidents. In Battlefield Vietnam the game would just auto punish people (or at least if tk autokick or something was on) no matter if it was an accident. The current system allows your teammates to keep that from happening for accidents or incidental damage from bombing in really hot areas.
But there are a lot of idiots who abuse the system and punish for everything no matter if it was completely their own fault for doing something like running INTO an artillery strike which is clearly marked on the minimap.
Since this is a written communication medium, the poor grammer and spelling often exhibited by posters makes that purpose much more difficult pursue.
Come on people, learn to listen to your grammar/spelling nazis! The almost non-existence of the word "who" these days is driving me nuts. But if you're going to grammar nazi, learn how to fucking spell "grammar".
Because mom and pop know how to reformat a hard drive, reinstall windows/drivers/software, and recover their data/settings because...?
Isn't windows supposed to be real easy though? Isn't that why it's marketshare is so much higher than that of Linux?
Of course, as a previous poster said, I'm not going to argue with throwing them out. I'll even recycle the old machines for them because I'm such a nice guy.
When calling people moron you might want to not make up words like "noone". But I guess name calling and misspellings are easier than actually having a reasoned argument.
He is currently in a legal dispute with Sony's Columbia Pictures unit over a film that opens late this month. It is about elite Navy pilots and titled - what else? - "Stealth."

Isn't it actually more like a mac with a graphics card and some half-assed windows emulation software for running original xbox games?
They're one of the primary reasons there has been a proposal to add web services language to the GPL in the first place.
Not if he wants that "Microsoft Quality" that Just Works(TM).
Hey buddy, the sex scene was tastifully and artfully done. It wasn't a porn!
It has to do with him receiving his check from microsoft for astro turfing on /.
As far as Shadows of the Empire and Wave Race 64 are concerned, you're just trippin'.
Of course, he must not be planning on using the PS3 harddrive if that is the case. Though if Sony were to delay into late 2006 or early 2007 they might also change their mind on packing in the harddrive, which looks pretty damn likely to fail as an addon since that's usually what console addons do.

I guess that depends on if you want a good text editor, a good OS, or something else.
I've found that autotrace also works quite well and supports colour images.
Maybe people should be more clear in their reading comprehension.

Yeah, probably because they wanted to take their chance at suing while they're still alive.

Both, that's why I run Linux.

Mattel also owns the shade of pink associated with Barbie.
