Developers: There is NO WAY IN HELL that we can develop or maintain Solaris Intel binaries. Not enought staff. We have enough work as it is! We should drop the whole projet.

So really, to upgrade my CPU, I need to get a new motherboard. To get a new motherboard, I probably need to get a new case & power supply, maybe some new RAM... and hell, at that point I might as well get a new computer and plug in some of my old peripherals.

Either way I'm out $500-1000 ... think I'll just stick with my Celeron 366, it functions well enough...

Look, we're all built a little differently, we've all had different physical histories, and our work habits are different. We're all different. So it make sense that ONE ergonomic solution for ALL people won't work.

Some people are going to strongly prefer the MS Natural keyboards, some people need the 1993 Sun keyboard.

If you experience pain with your current setup, you'll probably need to try a few different keyboards before you find one that works for you.

Personally, I strongly prefer to use the MS Nautral keyboards. Except for the small arrow keypad, I find that it causes the least amount of pain or discomfort of any keyboard that I've used. I work 8+ hours a day on a keyboard.

I use a Sun Ultra5 at work, with a MS Natural keyboard plugged into a converter. I can't get PS/2 mice to work correctly (THe middle button doesn't cut-n-paste), so I use a 3-button boxy Sun mouse (Plugged into a second Sun keyboard which hides under my desk).

My biggest gripe isn't the keyboard, it's the mouse. Sun has a small selection of mice, and their standard box mouse just doesn't work. Most PS/2 mice do not work with a converter (The middle button doesn't cut and paste).

The latest version for Solaris is Release Candidate 1. Does anyone know why they skipped both RC2 & RC3? (Maybe RC3 will be out soon, and I'm just impatient :)

I use Mozilla as my primary browser on Linux & Windows (On a Celeron 366 with 512Mb of ram), and it's great.

Mozilla on Solaris is about 10 times slower then Netscape 4.7 at everything except rendering an HTML page. On a Sparc 266 with 512 Mb or ram, Mozilla takes 20 seconds to start up, mouseclicks usually take 1+ second to respond,
etc. It needs alot of work to be usable.

And I can't get Mozilla or Galeon to compile, so I'm stuck with released version.

Windows Media plays inside Mozilla with no problems

Thanks for the link, I'll give it a try.

Here is one major difference between Netscape & Mozilla: I searched all over mozilla.org for the word "Shockwave" and never found a link to a working product. For Netscape, the link was readily available.

    Thanks for your helpful response.

    Some examples:

    - Flash 5 (I recently needed it to play in a scavenger hunt)

    - Microsoft OLE plugin, so you can view MS Mediaplayer clips without switching to IE

(Yes, I tried the "Copy the Netscape plugins directory to the Mozilla Plugins directory" trick, but that doesn't work).

Certainly, these plugins are fluff, and you may not want or need them. But Jane User might actually want Flash, and it's really should be her choice.
