Ah, does it block snagit, VGA capture devices, and some other utilites, especially on the client side, from doing the evil thing, especially if the user is using Word via Citrix Metaframe, or from a Thin Client? From rdesktop with the relevant Linux stuff? From a Mac, where MS has no real control over the OS?
If this idea is to succeed in such cases, the only way to make it work is to make the document unreadable for humans and machines alike.
Immediately, I was thinking of "Klo" (toilet) and "Kacke" (look it up yourself) when I saw this....ah the possiblities that good knowledge of the German language can open!
I had one lightning strike already. One antenna and part of the cable dead, but the AP survived. Of course, the antenna lightning protecteor and the antenna were more expensive than the AP, but at least it saved my other machines...
This is not so much of a problem if you're not completely forsaken braindead.
You need lightning protectors like this (if the link doesn't come up, search for "Blitzschutz", and of course, ground the access point. If lightning hits, the antenna is toast, as well as the protectors, but the rest of the network is OK. What I suggest as well as to protect is the ethernet plug, there are protectors for this as well, like this, but I'm sure there are others as well.
Even stranger is that about half of these 10k people died in institutions where they ought to have their health watched by paid nurses and health workers...
I'm a bit in a pitch. I bought some used routers off ebay.de in order to be able to implement SDSL, and Cisco wanted to get some insane money from us who manage some servers for not-for-profit organizations. However, the CEO managed to make them swallow their idea and in the end, we didn't get support, but at least the latest firmware.
I doubt a private person could do that, even if they run some nice operation with SDSL.
And, yes, despite everybody's suspicion, I prefer to have some commercial router rather than a linux project - usually, the hardware flakes out less often.
Is a goddam baseball bat. As long as spammers can use and abuse the resources with just facing monetary penalties, they will do it because there's money in the spam business. However, the moment they have to fear to be beat up and possibly to death because of their spamming, they'll usually stop. And the remaining hard-core spammers will die out one by one.
It's not MSNBC, but the penis-enlargement spammers so they can confirm your email address and check out with their sooper-sekerit spycam whether your male implement is too small (it always is).
We have a somewhat socialized medecine in Switzerland as well, but I always opt for the highest franchise since I never become ill. Saves me 1500 CHF a year, and the last time I had to pay something was when I needed some eyedrops.
The problem with socialized medicine is that as long as nobody pays, everybody wants to use the service to the max, something which does not bode well with the idea. Basically, people should a small percentage of their income for trips to the doctors cabinet in addition to the fixed health insurance primes we have per person down here for basic insurance. Would solve a few problems.
To compare, just look in what mess the German health insurance system is.
I have a Zaurus and think it's a cool machine, BUT it could run faster if using some minimal OS. After all PalmOS doesn't have huge truckloads of features like NFS, memory protection that would be worth it's money or such, but with all the applications, it's quite a bit smaller.
OTOH, the software availability on the Zaurus is as good and doesn't have that much expensive shareware like the Palm, something which made me migrate away from the Palm.
If I run out of warranty on some expensive unix boxen and don't want to extend the contract, I usually remove the disk from the bracket and buy my own. Much cheaper.
And sometimes, you get options you don't have available from the manufacturer.
Micro$oft rarely held up to standards, except LPR , possibly SMTP as well.
And with the joyous security holes in their successor to the usenet, the result might be interesting.
I should start filtering the crap that does not fit in the "Big 8" or the national groups like ch.* or fr.*. Alas, I'm just a small wheel in the machine.
Seen from the side that even a "suspected violation" can get you fined, the Germans have just proven they follow some 60 year old traditions again.
And with German lawyers very triggerhappy to send out cease-and-desist letters, it won't get any better. Luckily, we don't have any of this crap one country south yet.
Almost everything is firewalled off and proxied, so filesharing doesn't work, especially since the whole WLAN I have open for public use here isn't running on publicly routable IPs.
And even if WEP sucks for security, RADIUS does much less.
Strange that only third-world countries get named, but even in Switzerland, you can VoIP as a consumer.
See.Digitalphone for the details (click in the upper left corner for the right language). And yes, this is for people who don't even have a POTS line at home, in direct competition to our monopolist Swisscom.
A good friend of mine has an interesting hobby - he's looking for APs and checks whether there's a mostly open file server around and then proceeds to copy the contents to the laptop, burn a CD or two and drop them into the phyisical mailbox of that company or office.
In at least two cases, he got the contents of a lawyer office. Some people were supposedly not amused, but at least they accepted his help in securing their networks.
The MS lawyers can come, they won't be able to do a whole lot in Western Europe as by far not every country has a counterpart to the DMCA.
Probably the folks from the Free-X team will be the 300 Spartans at Thermopylae, and Stefan Esser could well become the new incarnation of King Leonidas.
Maybe this time, Bill Gates will hear the battle cry "Molon Labe!"
What would happen if Philipps started sueing all the companies that produce 'copy-protected' CDs (also called "Un-CDs" in German, see CD register from the publisher of the well-known c't magazine (in German)) for using the word 'CD' which is very, very probably copy-righted?

But soon we might have "Krap" as well....

we have SpamOS, the world's first spam-promoting OS.
(I haven't seen any non-spam mail from these two countries yet).

Also this guy seriously lacks an Amiga...Lords of the Rising Sun, Uridium 2, Paradroid 90...
Do you really mean they finally found the weapon of mass distraction?

I usually take these drives to the firing range. A .308 Winchester bullet (diameter 7.62mm, weight 150 grains) takes care of the problem.

So you mean that if my malehood grows, the evil Lumber Cartel is ready to strike?
The idea in itself is interesting, but in that case, I'd just open a pr0n site and use steganography in the pics.

Looks like we need a new Robin Hood who shoots the Sheriff of Nottingham and gives software to the poor.

At least with well more than 99% of all Linux stuff, you get the source code you can review. Try this with Windows and it's automatic updates!
