You are absolutely correct. Even at nearly 20% off the US release price, Japanese do not take up the Xbox 360 as fast as US. Their gamers simply do not care about the games on this console. If Microsoft wants to succeed in Japan, they NEED to OWN Square Enix and re-release the history of Final Fantasy enhanced for 360. And keep the rest of the games as an exclusive to Xbox 360. All the advertising and price drops in the world will not be as effective as a move like that.

Now, they disguise the fact that it's for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars http://www.enemyterritory.com/ by saying that it's for Earth Quake prediction. 15. Re:Vendor Partnerships on What's the Point of IT Certifications? · · Score: 1

I was going to say that too. Vendor partnerships sometimes require certifications. I used to have an Apple certification because Apple required it in order for me to replace warranty items. At the time Apple reimbursed our company labor. So the certification paid for itself in a way. But now, since they no longer cover labor, we're now making Apple pay to sending a technician to us to preform the on-site repair work. We no longer certify our technicians now that we don't have a reason to. Our relationships with Novell, Apple, Cisco, or Microsoft do not require certification, so our department no longer has valid reasons to certify it's technicians.

While working as a certified technician, I didn't see the point to it either. Certifications covered more than my job duties. For instance, Apple certification covered repairs of AirPort, Cinema Display and iPod devices where we do not have any. The certifications also covered just released produects that my company had no plans to purchase. It seems that vendors threw anything they wanted on the test, even if it had no impact on a department's technicians duties. Vendor certifications are just too broad and meaningless as such.

I suggest that certifications are useless, and only show that someone had memorized enough answers to once pass a test. Since certifications do not exemplify day to day duties, I don't see how they can be used to determine qualification for a job related task.

  16. Re:Japanese Movie Prices on Piracy Not To Blame In Decline of Moviegoers · · Score: 1

Yeah, but Japan's minimum wage can be about $9.00 / Hr before taxes and factoring current exchange rates. So you figure that the poorest labor force has to work about 2 hours for 1 ticket. Which is about the same price as a ticket here in most of the States.

It's funny how ever much money you earn, the price of things follow in equal step. It's as if the values never change, but the numbers on the other side of the decimal point look better.

  17. Correct - there is no value in theaters on Piracy Not To Blame In Decline of Moviegoers · · Score: 1

There was once a time where I could spend $5.50 per 2 adults and $4.50 per child; movies in theaters were compriably priced to a $19.99 DVD. And I would make point to attend those films. At those ticket prices I didn't mind the $3.95 soda pop or bag of candy. Now I'm spending in upwards of $35 for tickets, the quality of the movie is down, I sitll have to fight for the good seats, and the price of food is up! Why would I enjoy that?

Smart consumers would rather purchase or rent the film in 6 months and get the DVD bonus features than be subject to the price hikes at the multi-plex. The quality of the movie in theaters is also poor. Most all movies have that 15 minute splatter mark to remind the projectionist to change the reel. And the sound isn't exceptional when compared to my home stereo system. Today, the whole audio / visual experience of a movie at a theater is no longer superior to my home theater. And if I want to watch a film again, I have to pay full price. Why can't I use my ticket to come back free after the opening week rush?

They need to release films in higher quality digital video with superior sound systems and bring the consessions to the audience. And bring back the ticket prices to the 1990's price levels. Or, another business model could forget the multiplex and come straight to pay-per-view. The value of going to a theater is now missing when compared to movie alternatives. It's time to redesign the thinking in Hollywood.
