I live a very active lifestyle. I do martial arts, dive, play sports, a whole bunch of things that having that lil 'flap' be a problem if it were to ever 'pop' open. Thankfully I spent the extra cash and went with PRK which is the same surgery Air Force pilots get.
What is the big difference? : Simple, there is no flap. They carve off the top of the cornea's layer is removed and is then grown back. No flap, no popping, no worries.
What is the downfall: 3 days of light blinding pain whenever bright light occurs. Thankfully this is negated by modern medicine and covers for your eyes.
What is the upside: This is the first type of LASIK ever invented so it's been done brazillions of times. This is perfected to a state of art and I've had no issues in the 10 years since I've done the surgery. Best money ever spent and not one chance if getting poked in the eye or underwater accident that this 'flap' may (1/1000) pop open.
Was it overkill? Perhaps. But that's one less thing I ever have to worry about.
The death of GReader led me to Feedly which has nearly all of the features that GReader had backed by a company whom RSS isn't an experiment and truly GOT RSS. Feedly saw a need in the market place and filled that void that Google abandoned.
I am more than happy with Feedly and their feature set. I threw them some money to support them and tell everyone I know to use them as their apps work just as well if not better than what Google was trying to do.
I own this solution. It's downright amazing with the support of the community and the sheer vastness of hardware supported. you cannot go wrong with unRAID.
There is no mention of speed, performance, file copy replication, the ins and out of each solution, just a list of features they all share and how the author went about determining them at his whim. Without metrics this article is just a sales blurb for links. Other websites do it better: Storagereview for one, Smallnetbuilder is the other.
Another wretched sales brouchure disguised as a review by Infoworld.
In a murder someone dies, there is pain and closure. It happens and there is nothing you can do about it, someone is dead.
Sex crimes are where the victim lives to tell the tail. The lingering "pain" and "emotional suffereing' cause this to be a more serious crime to society as both the perpetrator and the victim still live.
All of these are generic axioms. None of these are special or unique or "Oh I learned this ONLY from playing D&D". It's a bloggers way of using catch phrases to garnish interest and get posted around the internets for hits.
Anyone else see this as a rehash of good ole Dragon's Lair? I must be "ancient" in terms of computer game knowledge but we had this back in the 80s and the game was savage as hell. All this talk of "Oh no major game overs, players can die and the story goes on" Is hooie. You need lightning reflexes, perfect time, and coordination of a ninja juggling flying Molotov cocktails balancing on a ball being shot at by assassins.
Longer story, more plot, but in essence same gameplay as 30yrs ago.
TLDR: I hated Vista. Loved XP. Use Linux. Installed 64bit Vista. Vista Crashed and burned. Reinstalled with SP2. It just Works.
I've been a longtime XP user. I use Ubuntu and RHEL at work. I use linux and unix. I hated Vista with a passion, thought it was a PIA and had so much config problems. I then bought a new PC (quad core 6GB ram, blah blah) so I figured I'd put Vista on it. First time worked ok. I updated my bios, it blew away my Raid 1. Got irritated and stopped screwing with it. Then SP2 came along in the last few weeks and I reinstalled my OS and installed SP2 over it.
It just works. Works perfectly. So simple to install Vista and simple to install the SP2. 2 reboots and I had everything working. Fixed the RAID issue, fixed the bluetooth issue, fixed some other quirks that drove me batshiz crazy.
I gotta say that I used to hate vista with the passion of a 1000 firey suns. Now I'm like "Well it's not too bad, what's the problem with it again?"
I laughed, I rolled my eyes, I kicked mime and clown ass up and down the street. Could've blown it on booze and strippers but this was by far a better way of spending 5hrs of my life.
Seriously, kill off a few of the 'main' characters.
That's always been the issue with these books is that Jordan created a handful of characters, then added a few side characters and said "Oh my these are interesting let's flesh them out!" and he did...over 10 f'n books worth of side characters!
G.Martin, Glenn Cooke, Dan Abnett, all are good sci-fi/fantasy writers that can handle multiple characters and wack them off at a whim and leave you feeling that you are sad to see them go but there's a reason they are gone and the story moves on. These hangers on from seachan whichs to aes sedai, to aielmen of the north to whatever in the later books all come and STAY. Noone leaves the main thread, hence why his books are 1k pages long and full of worthless fluff "She fluffs her green jade dress full of sparkling diamonds while pulling on her hair and frowning at "
I was able to carve the book down by 1/3 by simply ignoring most of the side plots and only reading stuff that concerned Rand,Matt,Perin. If it didn't involve them I didn't care, I moved along.
I bought a 360 and I'm trying to unload mine. Have the original box, HD Cable, 4 games (Sports, Biggs, Harry potter, WarioWare), 3 controllers and 2 chucks. Need to pay for school. Hoping to get $450 for it.
if you want to buy it feel free to email me at bigdady at gmail dote com
Everything that they put out in their twice a week podcast and on the website is nuggets of gold information for your home theater. They just did a podcast going over EXACTLY this type of information detailing what everything is, how it works, what cables are fine to get, and they do it on a fair budget (whole theater system soup to nuts for under 2k including TV).
I built my home theater based on the information I gleaned from them. I saved a ton of time and money building my system out and I was able to identify my needs and what doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. Just listen to these guys and you can scroll through their entire archive of podcasts to get the information you want, download or play it on that site directly.
Parent's who don't know any better. Just like the Wii and the cheap PS3. It's going to be parents who go out and say "@#$! Joey Jr wants an Xbox to play with his friends, crap it's $400. Wait! There's one for $280 and it comes with a wireless controller and online games! SOLD!"
It won't be till lil joey opens it up that he sees he's not getting his HD with it and mommy has to trundle back to the store to buy something to hold the games on.
Ignorance is how 90% of these consoles get bought out anyway by the parents. Trust me, I was there for the Wii release and most of these people were buying it to resell and were stunned when I told them about the controller and the wireless aspects of it.
I was one of the few that waited in line overnight to purchase one of these golden machines. Hooked it up and started playing it for a few hours. Took it down to the folks house for the holidays and everyone went nuts playing it, thought it was the best thing ever. Then the lack of any good games came along. Rayman raviing rabbids? Beat it. Zelda? Biggs? Played them to death. Wii play? Wii-suck. Harry potter was something the women loved to play. Me I got bored.
Then I found the Xbox360, with gorgeous graphics, fast game play, and more titles than I could play for a lifetime. I've probably spent close to a grand in buying stuff for it and hooking it up to my 1080 LCDTV, and with XBLA me and the lady can play against each other when she's at her house and me at mine (chix love hexic, don't ask me why). I look at the wii and think "Man it's got such potential, but there's NOTHING worth playing on it" then I pickup the 360 and play another round of bioshock or Dynasty warriors against people around the world.
I like my wii, wish there was more for it, and if I could sell it for $500 with 3 controllers and all the games, it'd be gone in a heartbeat.
If this 'wireless' thing is such a big issue and the people see that there is no wire, they'll ask you to stop using it.
Now, we being the ingenious lil monkies we are, can easily take a single black wire and electric tape it to the inside of the headphone and then to the device. It doesn't have to be molded or connected in any way shape or form to something useful, just a nice thick attachable cable that stewardess can see and identify and pass on by.
Stewardess: Excuse me papa san, you can't use that headphone on the plane Me: Why not? S: It's a wireless headset, it can crash the plane, eat babies, and summon Godzilla. Me: It's not wireless, it's got a cable hooked into it, see , can't be wireless when it's got a wire! S: Ok, carry on, enjoy air tokyo
No they can't. Verizon laid the line, it's not a public utility like cable at all. It's VZ property, there can be no other competitors. AT&T won't let VZ near their fibre and vice versa.
Talk to any person who got FIOS in Florida and you'll see they cut the cable. What does this guy want, pictures of the line before and after? That's easy to do.
I've had to work for several women as my 'manager' and I've found them to be the worst managers out of all of them. The are extremely picky, critical, and impatient as they come and never understand that IT tends to require you to have more freedom and originality in thought than other career paths.
1 came from military background 1 came from teaching herself IT 1 came from MBA school
All could not manage their way out of a paper bag while I got male bosses who will bust your butt for doing stupid stuff, which we all do, and understand it's part of the job.
Yes I've had weak male managers but then again I could 'relate' in that way that men can relate to men and work through an issue, but women being overly critcal and motherly just isn't something I want. I can take a male boss calling me a slack jawed lazy bastard in one sentence while asking if that IT relocation is complete while surfing slashdot and telling him via IM nextel style it is and him grunting his acknowledgement.
I'm sure I'll here some psyche major try to analyze this or reason it down to me being "scared, intimidated, brought up by she devils and wolves" or some other nonsense. I find its easier to work for men that it is for women and hence I CHOOSE (gotta love that) that any new place I go find out if my boss is a female I immediately decline the offer and go find something else.
Seriously. Work here in the states is dull and uninteresting. Working over there setting up new frontiers, new boundries, establishing new modes of what works and what doesn't to me seems like a breath of fresh air. Something more than the dull crap that I have to putup with on a day to day Admin job. I'm tired of being a maintainer of dead and boring products, I want to be a true engineer and do stuff that was meant to be done as only engineers do.
If anyone knows how one can get a job over in that area or work with these guys post here or have them email me: bigdady at gmail dot com.
Resumes, references, and certs as well as Target shooting scores are all available.
P.S. yes I have family in the military too if that helps.
No ghetto blasting gangsta or slick mobster this time. Looks like a modern day game played out with a eastern european/russian hitman. The graphics look absolutely stunning like something out of a movie. Cars looks like Forza models. People actual look like people not some rectagular blocks of old GTA games. Shadowing, sunsets, cloud cover, you name it all in this thing. I wonder if rain is coming?
I will HAVE to buy an XBOX360 to play this game. Noone is forcing me to but damn this thing comes out on my birthday (3 rockstar) so I guess I'm plunking down a huge chunk of change to get my gaming system and GTA to play for a few weeks.
HDMI-1 cable to plugin and run all my stuff. no need for 5 cables, 5 plugs even if they are all bundled together. 1 simple easy cable
Bigger HD-20GB is not enough. HD content alone would fill that up in a few shows. 120GB I now have breathing room to use this.
Quieter DVD- I believe this is coming with the new gen DVD player that is a helluva lot quieter than the previous one.
Cooler CPU- I heard there is a die shrink. Is this one that qualifies on it? I hope so. I hate the furnace that the existing one is.
Black- my 47" LCD tv is black, Reciever is black, stand is black, speakers black, smokey glass cover hides most displays but that garish xbox360. Black appeals to the eye.
All in all when the prices drops to the current level of platinum I'll get it. I don't care about wireless A/B/G. I'll get an adaptor for it if I so choose as I don't do online games or connect for updates. I leave it offline.
If the bundled the HD player in with it, then it'd be so hard not to splurge on it right away. sigh...

A blatant upgrade to Time Pilot. Really come on I was playing this in the 80s and it was better.
nothing like ripping out promised content and abilities to make it to release. why not let it cook a bit longer and not pull a flaghsipp'n?
