I've said in my post that sometimes, not aborting is personal selfishness as well.
Do you want to feel morally good about yourself by not aborting a baby and sending another life to a lifetime of punishment ? No, this argument is just a facade for "I'm too selfish to put myself out for a child."No, this argument is just a facade for "I'm too selfish to put myself out for a child."
Exactly.
Does such a selfish person sound like a great parent to you ? If someone is too selfish or dosent have the balls to be a parent why force her/him to become a parent ? Why give let them have a chance to screw up their childs life as well ?
Supposing the US decides to totally ban abortion there would be many unwilling parents.(a MILLION more children). If that happens, would you or anyone garuntee that those children get the love, food, clothing shelter they will need ? Hell, we are not able to garuntee that to children of so many happily willing parents.(for example I remember reading that something like half the homeless are under 20 yrs.)
Then why add to the toll ?
Something else: Did you know abortions are very common in India/China? I have relatives who have had abortions. If you meet them, I dont think they will look like murderers, or inhuman savages to you. And they were not happy when they decided to have an abortion. They had to do it to make sure that any children they did have got the best that they could provide.
I dont know if you're trolling, but anyway consider this:
If a child has to grow up to be a decent human being, what she/he needs is love, care, money for food, clothes, shelter, education.. almost always provided by parents(or gaurdians). I'm sure you agree with this ?
However, the mere fact that an unborn is even CONSIDERED for abortion, means that the child will quite probably not have some its needs fulfilled. In the case of working parents, it can even be an emotional need as the parents may not be around to care. As you can tell from the news, even some ultra rich parents are not able to do their job properly.
I this light, I think its better that a life is aborted rather than adding yet another burden on earth.
You might say this is a decision for the baby whose life is to be taken. But if you look around you there are countless mentally/physically beaten individuals who will say "Of course now that I'm living for 20 years I want to live.. but I wish you had killed me when you had the chance"
Do you want to feel morally good about yourself by not aborting a baby and sending another life to a lifetime of punishment ?
What disgusts me is how people are spending millions on anti-abortion(or pro choice) ads, lobbying and campaigns, protests, marches etc and how they try to pass laws they like and elect "leaders" they want, but do so little to eliminate poverty and hunger in the United States(the richest and most powerfull nation in the world.)
I'm not sayin people accepting abortions will solve these problems, but people accepting that abortion(and others) is a non-issue and stop forcing others to their point of view will help.
That means stopping calling pro choice people murderers.
Did you see the point under "Open office is free" ?
it says:
Data migration and testing (especially if customer uses Access database)
Meaning: Access has you locked in and you will stay locked !
and stop importing students for American universities.
I suggest you pick up any text book on computer science thats used in college. Then look at the citations and count the number of papers from people of Asian origin that you see.
I cant say about the chinese and others, but I garuntee you the percent number of Indians that you'll find will be larger than the ONE percent of US population that they constitute.
Search for any topic on citeseer... tell me how many Asians/Indians you see.
Of course Americas true skill is creativity... however as far as the computer industry is concerned, you forget that creative work done by asians has a disproportionately larger share than their populations. Its a fact.
Chinese and Indian programmers were known to have a 'pack' mentality, in which the top 1-3 programmers did the hard work, and the rest were content to pass it around via floppy, with varying attempts at even changing function names.I've heard this has been overlooked at some highly regarded schools (Stanford for one), with the logic that 'we would alienate and possibly expel 80% of the students if we rigorously enforced this.
Hehe... so true in my Univ.
A maid and a cook is good for you.
But do you know how much the maid/cook will get paid?
In a big city, where wages are higher, you would pay them Rs 500 to 1000.. thats 10-20$. If the maid works many hours in 3-4 places, she'll get 60-80$ a month if shes lucky. At this rate, when does her son get schooling, decent college, University etc and become an engineer ?
So while the dollar does go further, it doesent do the vast majority of Indians who are farmers, labourers, servants, etc. ANY good.
When will the maids son even think of becoming an engineer and getting his own big house with pool? I think its when wages for everyone go up.. so that when the maid wants 100, and people can afford to give it.
As an Indian, I like the fact that many people in US, even well off ones HAVE to do their own laundry, cooking etc. Because that means that there arent a lot of poor people left to become maids/cooks.
I do not know why you say "a big house with a pool". Although I havent counted, I am willing to bet that the number of s/w engineers in India with a house(not apartment) with a pool is way, way less than you imagine.
Hell, the number of total pools in India is less that you imagine.
I used to keep track of Indias space programs when i was in school. I'm sure I first heard mention of this hypersonic plane more than 10 years ago.. then they said "it would first fly by year 1999".
That means this is NOT the first time a "firm date" has been announced.
I'm sorry but I dont have sources to prove this.
So yea, I'm willing to take bets for this not happening in THREE years.Even Nasa will find this tough.
The aircraft mentioned by parent is now said to be inducted by 2010... when it was supposed to be 2000 (? it changes every year)... and its expected to be quite obsolete by then. There are many reasons for this.. bureaucracy, money, immature military and space realated industries and Westerns unwilling to share tech for instance.
This doesent mean India has not made progress in other space areas or that India is *totally* incapable of making such a plane.
As an Indian, I'm sorry to say that the articles linked to are the typical "feel good" aricles that appear every now and then...probably to make people forget the prevailing lawlessess, castesim, illetracy, communalism etc etc.
Secondly, China's former glory was based on exactly the kind of repressive system that is in place today: indeed at the height of China's power, the repression was even more extreme. None of China's peoples, apart from a tiny elite, ever had any power.
You make it sound like the "former glory" for any other country was any different. In most ancient societies , power was always with the elite. Look at Egypt, Japan, India, Rome, England,Europe... the peasants worked while the elite played. Don't make it sound like China was the only country like that.
Those are official figures.
I would take them with grains of salt.
My mom worked in the social sevice dept. of Maharashtra state in India. Part of the Depts duty is to help increase literacy.
Eager officials will add anyone who can draw something resembling signatures to the literacy list. Or simply say "X district (county) added 1000 people to the literate list".. whos to verify ? They conduct literacy campaigns for adults in the same fashion... in 15 days taech them to draw signatures.
This is not always the case.. and things *are* improving..
I cannot say what the real literacy rate/literacy growth rate might be.. but its got to be lower than official figures.
Are you talking about how god is perceived or the question of whether it actually exists?
As I am an atheist, I would like the existence of god itself being debated a lot more than it is now...pick up pace. Like how the debate on slavery or of Earth being the center of the earth took many years.
This will happen.. once religion gets past gay rights and abortion and cloning...
While one may argue against most of the parents' points, how can anyone look themselves in the eye and say christinity is not sexist ?
When did we see the last FEMALE pope ?
Will we ever see one ?
Now someone will say "OK so the church or bible was wrong about certain things like their stand on women, on Galileo, on glorifying crusades (like someone mentioned Jews killing natives to occupy ancient Israel ).. and therefore we need REFORM and the church needs to change"
Maybe then it is wrong about many things that future generations will want to reform. Like the idea of god itself..

It may be a temporary thing or something...or is it april 1 again ??.. hmm...gotta get out more
it's about 30mb
They are 18 MB for the latest ones(44.03)
And thats because it contains all the language packs.
You can get stripped down English only BETA drivers from 3D Chipset
(and other sites). Those are only 6-9MB.
You'd be surprised how good these "BETA" ones will behave.(but its a good idea to let people use it for a week before downloading them)
It seems the FX series dosent really have proper DX9 support. Directx9 calls for FP24 support internally, but the FX series only has Fp16 and FP32 support.

If it were not the NV35's results, the numbers in the table wouldn't be so different, right? It's well known that ATi chips use 24 bit floating-point numbers internally in the R300 core and this precision is not influenced by the partial precision modifier. But it's interesting that NVIDIA uses 16 bit floating-point numbers irrespective of the operation precision requested(!), though the partial precision term was introduced by NVIDIA's request, NV3x GPUs support 32 bit floating-point precision under OpenGL NV_fragment_program extension, and NVIDIA advertised their new-generation videochips as capable of TRUE 32bit floating-point rendering!
Maybe if the US (and other nations) had stopped spending such ridiculous amounts of money on "Defense", man would've been on Mars a long time ago. I know its too much to hope it'll happen.
The idea of exterminating non-believers is certainly not central to the Muslim religion. There are words in the Quran that do not look favourably on other religions, but a look through the Bible can reveal similar harsh words.
The idea of exterminating non believers certainly is ONE of the main ideas of Islam. Please read any decent translation(Muslim "approved" of course) of the koran to clear this.
What I'm saying is only a fact.
While I dont remember the koran in great detail I do remember statements like "do not trust even the children of Jews, lest you may be blinded" .
If you read the koran you will NOT fail to notice how non-believers and women are considered second-class citezens at best.
I certainly dont think the koran has the IP on inanity. Other religois book give tough competition.
$850 is well beyond the reaches of many, many people in the First World and completely beyond the reach of people in the Third World.
Thats because of:
1>The moronic duty structure of the Indian Government that keeps prices high.(and higher for MNC's)
2>The ultra moronic distribution system in India which creates so many layers that makes each layer add their margin(obvious)and makes it IMPOSSIBLE to to get anything but the "popular" stuff at cheaper prices.
Its a endless cycle. People dont buy "high-end" stuff coz its expensive courtesy of artificial prices of major dealers. Dealers claim high end stuff dosent sell coz people dont buy !
For eg the Asua A7N8X Dlx available for @140$ in the US (coming from China/Taiwan) is 250$ in India.(Same goes for ANYTHING else)
