I'm kinda surprised you didn't mention how much cheaper PC's are, and how OS X is based on BSD, which is dying.
Other reasons to own a mac, which I never really see refuted by the PC crowd, is the Total Cost of Ownership, longevity and the cheaper support costs. As I see it, you get what you pay for, and if I could get osX running on an off the shelf PC, then I would. As it is, mac os(es) are the best for me. So I need to buy the hardware to run it. It also helps that it looks good and performs well.
So at work I use a 650 MHz P III. It sucks. XP is not as fast as it should be, although I am pretty sure it is down to bloated code. Trying to run more than one app at once always cripples it, and sometimes kills it.
My 450 Mhz G4 at home runs jaguar seemlessly, and is smooth. Not fast, but smooth. Having multiple processes running at the same time is easy, and app-switching is easy.
Of course, YMMV.
Burning mod points here, but I prefer to think positive. You are right that DRM cannot be controlled by the public domain for the good of the media companies. Where you are wrong is that you seem to believe that this is the only channel for content.
The way I see it is that the average joe is becoming empowered by technology and content can be provided from source to consumer without the middleman.
Besides, secracy doesn't work for long without being hacked. History is on ny side.

That seems like a dumb thing to say to me. Remember that apple were the first to market with a usable home computer. Slow vs non existent? Score one to apple. Although they may be behind at the moment, it doesn't mean that in the future it won't happen. And in closing, virtually all the apps for mac are now available for OS X, and it can't have been 2 years ago that it came out.
I am surprised at the number of people calling for a unique number (or code or whatever) and best argued for in the parent. However, I think this is a Very Bad Idea. Who gets to hold this information and use it? The only people I can see close to achieving this in the present/near future is Microsoft. Needless to say I don't have, and won't be signing up for a password account. The idea that one key can be used to unlock everything encrypted about you leaves cracking it as a way to screw you up bad. I'm not advocating security through obscurity, but a bit of redundancy. Maybe if there were 5 keys which could control everything, then if one was comprimised, the other 4 could prove your identity. And each one should only protect 1/5th of your sensitive data, so your doctor can't check you cash situation, and your employer can't check on your health.
I'm not too hot on configuration of email, but I collect my mail via IMAP. Apart from that I can't really tell you anything other than it has good context sensitive help. If you ever need to know anything, hit ? and read.
Good Luck!
Where I'm from, pigs in blankets are better tasing, and even more unhealthy. They're little sausages wrapped in bacon rashers, traditionally roasted around the christmas turkey, and served dripping in fat.
MMMMmmmm!
But it is so useful now. Use the apple (CMD) key for CMD-C,X,V and you can copy and paste from your terminal sessions in OS X, without fooling the Unix underneath that you are pressing control. I use it all the time to copy from PINE. It is incredibly useful. Back on topic, the apple pro keyboard I am typing from rocks. After the shaky imac keyboards, the new ones are top-notch.
So, I hate to feed the trolls, but 600-800$ more than a competing machine?
Bollocks!
The cheapest (old) imac is $799. And that is better than most wintel machines at everything, if you include the free software with the sticker price.
If you truly believe what you say about 600-800 $ more than the equivalent PC, then you are talking shit.
so there!
If I submitted wiring like that for my final electronics project, I would have been in lots of trouble. Why couldn't he keep it neat? It makes it so much easier to understand, looks nicer etc. A cool project is no excuse for sloppy workmanship.
You get a nice correlation between money and intelligence. Whether this is due to growing p in a crap neighbourhood with crap schools, or social darwinism (the dumb end up with crap jobs, earning nothing) is a point I leave for discussion elsewhere.
I'd wait for 10.3 if I were you. Get the panther goodness later in the year with all the new stuff, and pay only once.
Power users are supposed to use an xserve. Consumers are supposed to use an external firewire drive. That is all.

how about a 1GHz g4 for 999?

I may be missing something, but isn't this hardware RAID?

RTFA- The tyres were weighted " At one point, three tyres roll uphill because inside they have been weighted with bolts and screws"
Ignore my previous post- worked it out myself. For anyone else confused, you need to highlight the word, before right clicking.
Is there something wrong with me? when I right mouse click i get "view source" and "save page as..."

I get the nasty colours too- I am running safari, so it is only a beta.

As I've been told, the only pure science is maths. Physics is applied Maths Chemistry is applied Physics Biology is applied Chemistry.
