  1. Please remove... on Is Your Banking Information Accidentally On Ebay? · · Score: 1

I'm sorry, but any hard disk that is used to store any sort of information about other people should probably be DESTROYED, not re-sold so you can make a few bucks off of the deal.

I've been playing CounterStrike a lot as of late, and its clearly helped me focus on a single sound or source rather than simply hearing a garb of everything. Not to mention the ability to tell which direction the sounds are coming from as well. That should've been developed otherwise, just I suppose the games helped me a little?

  5. "Aerospace" on X Prize and John Carmack · · Score: 2, Funny

When he says Aerospace Software, he really means adding net jetpacks to Doom and allowing them to be used outside earth's atmosphere... you guys are interpreting this all wrong!

ah yes the good 'ol days, playing "Ultimate Doom" and "Heretic" on a 28.8 dialup. I miss those days :( Now you have to worry about some kidiot with an aimbot and wallhacks getting ready to AWP your ass through wall.

  13. Good... on Ask Jeeves Gives Up On Banner Ads · · Score: 1

I am good to see a more used search engine is getting rid of banners and popups. They are probably the most annoying thing in the world, and I have gone to great lengths to find software to prevent (tq Stop!Zilla). Anyways, I would much rather see an ad on the side of a webpage that says "Find products matching "C++ Tutorial"" than just random banner ads popping up all over, telling me my penis is too small and that my wife is ugly. Much more efficient, not to mention easier to deal with.

  14. Re:Blowing up foreigners on Help Wire Remote Laos Villages · · Score: 1

Ah, very good point. I never considered that. I was talking to some guy from Laos believe it or not about 4 hours ago on IRC, and he said that they think we're getting ready to destroy most of the middle east. However, if we get them internet, they can read on CNN the same thing we do =P. Then the government will regulate internet usage and whatnot, blah blah blah. Whatever, but a >>VERY good point.

  15. Re:Weirdly appropriated money on Help Wire Remote Laos Villages · · Score: 1

Well, it IS possible that people will try to learn from the internet, and i'm also sure some will. However, a majority of them will do what WE have done. Quit their jobs, go on welfare, and sit at home in chatrooms for hours on end, and only leave the monitor when you think you may have developed skin cancer due to the light from your monitor-- and only this is for a brief moment to see in a mirror if you do indeed see a brown spot. I don't think this is worth it.

  16. Wow... on Help Wire Remote Laos Villages · · Score: 1

Wow this is quite nice! However, wouldn't Laos benefit moreso from something that will help the poor instead of luxurize the rich? I may be wrong here, but Laos doesn't have the best living conditions. Why not help them with food, or provide them with housing, or even just send a few people over to decide what happens with the money?

Yea wow this robot would be pretty excellent. Great, However I have a question :). How could this be applied to a real life scenario? I mean, can this robot crawl? What stops magnets from messing it up? Or maybe an EMP attack? (Yes, I was watching Oceans 11 last nite, sorry :-\). I suppose it could aid in a bomb threat situation, but why would it need to know Tai-Chi? Oh well, ignore my pesismisticism (is that really even a word? :-P), I just think that too much money is being wasted on stupid shit.

  19. Motive... on "Decasia": The Beauty of Film Decay · · Score: 1

I fail to see what this movie is trying to prove. Many of the younger age people around don't really care about older movies, especially ones that are in black and white, or even worse, silent films. I'm sure there are plenty of men and women in their 40's or later who wish to preserve this, but they make up such a small amount of our countries population and I myself don't think people feal like spending their hard earned money on preserving these films. Sure, they are an important part of our countries history. They helped us through the wars, they informed us, and most importantly they comforted us. Not only that, but unless this movie gets some main-stream attention (such as a commercial on Fox or HBO), I doubt this movie will impact anybody. However, it could possibly have been cheap to produce, and they're hoping to make a large profit off it. Who knows? It's a lost cause if you ask me...

  20. Reasoning... on Going Through the Garbage · · Score: 3, Interesting

I don't think it was the fact that they took the garbage that made them mad. It was almost definatly the fact that they reported the contents. example, if you are throwing out an old computer, you don't know what it's good for! It's old and slow with nothing on it. However, some guy that knows computers back and around, decides he could salvage it, so takes it. Would you be made? Nah, it was headed for the dump anyways. However, he finds your secret porno stash from the 1940's and starts selling the videos, or simply tells other people. Do you want people knowing your a porn addict? Probably not. But do you mind if somebody salvages a few parts from what you think is a worthless computer? Again, most likely, no. It's all in the intended use.
