Unfortunately "Go to school, study hard, and get a good job" is no longer a viable formula for personal economic development, especially in this economy and more specifically in the computer / tech industry. If you want to work in IT, find an area that has high demand and low supply for a particular skill or service. Learn those skills and make yourself so invaluable to the company that you are nearly indispensable. And look for smaller companies (I'm talking 100 or less employees) rather than large ones like EA. They will appreciate you much more.

I've been using linux for about six years now, mostly on web servers during the first couple of years. Back in 2001, I tried making Redhat 7 my distro of choice for my laptop and there was just way too much trouble getting all the drivers and devices working. Little things like copying and pasting between apps didn't work, and finally I decided it was just not practical to work with. Those days have come and gone, and both Gnome and KDE have left MS Windows in the dust. The level of configurability and eye candy that you get with KDE or Gnome is awesome! And take a distribution like Fedora Core and you can have a windows user up and running in a few minutes. At my company our entire sales staff uses the Fedora Core 3 desktop and they all like it.

I doubt Apple will drop the price on their computers just because of lower component costs. The high-end Macintosh has always cost around $3000 USD, as far back as I can remember. Back in 1984, the original Macintosh sold for $2495.00. Now you can buy a dual G5 processor Powermac for around the same price, or a little higher if you go for top-of-the-line. There is a danger of underpricing an item and devaluing it in the mind of your customers. Apple/Macintosh computers have an amazing resale value compared to wintel boxes - the ones I've seen selling on ebay go for nearly 80% of original price compared to wintel computers.

I have visited Delhi and it is extremely heart-rending to see so many people suffering from hunger, disease, crime, and violence. Compassion alone should be reason enough to spend that $80 million on feeding and clothing people, rather than a dubious space-shot. According to Vedic culture, one must do what is in harmony with Mother Nature's laws. By going against this basic truth they are only paving their own path to ruin, just as the United States is doing. Let us hope mother India will return to her peaceful and glorious ways.

Ok, the k-name convention is cute and all but can get extremely annoying. Why does every last bloody package have to start with a freaking K? It makes it a real pain in the ass for a rookie end-user to find what they want when everything starts with a K. First of all it makes it hard to read anything in alphabetical order, and secondly the names can get confusing.

The default system menu that ships with Fedora Core 2 is a more ideal way to set up a menu, where the name of each program explains WHAT IT DOES, rather than trying to shoehorn some cute name into something that starts with K (or G for you Gnome fans). For example:

Instead of saying GAIM it says "Internet Messenger"

Instead of Mozilla, it says "Web Browser"
