    It takes a day to recompile a kernel?

    What the hell are you doing? The only thing that would take a day to recompile a kernel on is something like a 486.

    I can upgrade to the latest kernel version usually in less than an hour. Less than 10 minutes if I can `make oldconfig` without causing too many problems.

    Gah, what the hell. Why can't they just make a Linux client with SDL/OpenGL, for God's sake. They're using LGPL code, they expect us Linux users to support their servers, yet they can't even be bothered to give us a client. Screw you Valve, you just lost another customer.

    I think we should boycott them.

    Don't run Linux servers, don't run Steam Linux servers, don't do anything for them that involves Linux at all until they release a client version of both Steam and Half-Life [2] for us.

    Not that it matters, I have WinXP sitting on this computer not doing anything, but the only reason I'm keeping that around is for HL2.

    Thanks to Shacknews for their open letter regarding Activision's Call Of Duty demo for PC

    But it's not, is it. It's not for the 'PC' platform, it's for Microsoft Windows (I assume, I haven't RTFA, because this is a general bitch, rather than directed at this comment).

    People continually see the 'PC' as the platform, you see it on all the boxes, 'PC-CDROM' etc. Yes, it's a PC-CDROM, but the damn thing (most probably) only works on Windows, so why market it as a game avaiable for the 'PC' platform - which would make is available for all OS's.

    Ah well, I'll just boot to Windows and play it, anyway. :P

    You should try Gentoo again. It'll work on PPC too.

    The Gentoo install isn't the easiest ever, but I was a n00b when I installed it, and everything 'just works'.

    Don't let the compile times put you off, all that Gentoo Zealot Translator bullshit is just crap. Don't knock it till you've tried it.

    Hate to sound like a Zealot, so, umm... You could always try Debian too. :P

    Perhaps not in eye-candy, but in usability, hell yes. I find Gnome totally unusable and unconfigurable. Bloody hell, I can't even line up my icons on the desktop to a grid... WTF are you playing at Gnome guys, get your fingers out and make it better. Until then, I'm sticking with Fluxbox.
