    if some company tried to piggy back off of the beloved Red Hat Linux with their own Head Rat Linux everyone would be up in arms. What about Soose Linux? Or Debbie N Linux? Is that ok? As long as the offender is on MS's back everyone think's it fair and ok.

    Lindows sounds silly anyway, like a parody. I use linux, and the first time I saw "Lindows" I rolled my eyes.

    Why not just call it mp3.com linux? oh yeah, nevermind.

    You can kill the process that is even if you cannot see the application in that window. if you're suing 2K or XP. click on the processes tab, find it, kill it, done.

    Trouble is the record companies know this but still keep trying which just makes it harder and more frustrating for the avarage guy/girl who wants to listen to ligit tracks on a mp3 player.

    But we still lock our doors and windows at night. We keep our vehicles in garages and padlocks on our gates.
    The point is to keep the average Joe from digging around in your stuff. A professional thief is getting in, one way or another.

    This security is keeping your average guy/girl honest.

    Brandband prices have dropped in my area as more companies has started offerring the service. i was paying $50 for cable modem. After a while that dropped to $35.

    Verizon came in and started offerring DSL @ 34.95 + a free modem. I switched.

    a few months later verizon actually dropped our price another five dollars plus... Now paying $29 and change for 768/256. not bad, eh?

    By my estimate they'll look great, perform adequately, and cost $10,000 - $15,000 more than their direct competitors.

    I would really like to ask if these guys ever thought of putting together a startup....because let me tell you, they already have the right frame of mind.

    sounds like they work for my company! Actually - we had a fail over option designed after we got a new system that communicates via WAN. the fail over was never implemented because a certain Ops Manager was already over budget. A few months after the sytems was implemented we had some problems with one of the circuits. That manager came banging on my door in the early morning. "We cannot connect to Denver, we're going to have to use the other frame circuit!"

    imagine my delight telling him it was non-existant, due to his constraits, early in the project.

    he couldn't believe that he personally had veto'ed that option just months before.

    So we're getting rid of spam. And telemarketing.

    And while they're at it, how 'bout a law against junk (snail) mail? You know, i'm tired of those coupons that Val-Pak keeps sending me. Let's write legislature against them too. You know, those women at the cosmetics counter at the high dollar department stores harrass my wife every time she walks by, can we get a congressional inquiry on that as well? i really hate going into my favorite consumer electronics store, buying a new whatever, and then being harrassed by the folks trying to sell me a performance service plan. let's fine these guys!

    My point is these are all inconvenient, even rude ways to sell products and services. I hate spam as much as the next guy, but should we really involve the government?

    but this happens here even when the programmer works for you. in fact, chances are, if you outsource your work the person working on your project doesn't know how the product will be used. sure they know how it works, and what it does, but they won't necessairly.

    example

    Your company makes and sells widgets. You need an application that will interact with the widget inventory database. your onsite programmer knows about widgets. he sees them in the office daily. he may have some knowledge of the ways of the widget. he takes his cigarette breaks with the sales guy. he gets coffee with the marketing lady. he has the info to start his own widget facility. however, your off site programmer doesn't know what a widget is. he knows the various data fields. he knows how big the database is. he knows where it they are being shipped to, but that's it.

    Had the ISP been subpenoed they would turn over the necessary logs, show their cutomer's IP address (on his router) as the offender. How many perverts will turn this around the other way? Buy wireless routers, leave the settings wide open, download their kiddy pron at heart's content, making sure to always get rid of temp files, history, and cookies. If they get busted, the simply say, "it wasn't me, someone hacked into my wireless router, and downloaded that stuff on their onw machine... Shows we need to hold net admins (even of SoHo's to some standards of use.

    Could we have our hardware manufacturers include non default SSID's, on a cdkey type set up process, so the default isn't "default" or "linksys" but "As3deyt#$seKJ34". Changing it upon sucessful install should still be allowed, but at least we've reduced those that just leave 'em as they got 'em outta the box.
