Wish i had one of each here with me, but alas, everything's at home. is there that much of a weight difference? i really can't imagine it being more than a gram or two. size, sure, but i'm not so sure about weight.
Personally i'd be more concerned about the hoops that one would have to jump through to get my access restored. i'd bet it's not a simple, quick call to customer service to get the shit cut back on after resolving the problem.
i have enough problems w/ my isp if i have a new MAC address to be added.
Normally i don't reply to AC.
However, Newegg does have a special one day sale of XP Pro. Full version, too, not an upgrade, OEM, so you gotta buy some hardware too $133. Ends 3/9/2004 4:00 PM PST. But, see that wasn't my point.
And I didn't mention that you probably can buy at least RH oem, i don't see how that would apply to mac, though. I was just using OEM numbers for windows as that is how most users aquire their windows licensing, when they buy a new computer, not when they go drop $100 or more on a new OS to put on their old pc.
As far as ME is concerned, it seems to there is support still available. Customers can request security fixes for Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Me, and the most current version of their components until June 30, 2006 through normal assisted-support channels.
Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Me downloads for existing security issues will continue to be available through regular assisted-support channels at no charge until June 30, 2006. and online self-help support will be available until at least June 30, 2007.
Actually, if windows xp home was available for a mere $45, it'd be a steal. the $45, i guess, represents what the OEM pays for it, not the price that consumers pay for a boxed copy. nonetheless, even $100 ain't bad. let's review;
red hat enterprise liunx workstation starts @ $179.00.
mac os x is $129.00.
i know there are free (beer) variations of linux and bsd, but you don't get much support. i know everyone rags on MS for the extent of their support, but let's face it, they do still support their software. MS just recently ended support for windows 98. windows 98, people. six years of downloadable updates.
when you grab the cheapie pc @ best buy for $400 that comes pre-loaded w/ win xp home, i don't care if emachines is paying $4, $40, or $400 to microsoft. i know i'm getting a pc w/ a legal os, and i'll get support for several years.
is MS evil? sure. is $45 too much to pay for an OS? no way.
Did you ever consider going into your local computer shop and purchasing a pc sans MS OS? I'm sure they would have been more than happy to load up your favorite linux distro.
i think it's stupid for either product, really. it's nice, if you buy an OS and get a free multimedia program, and it's nice, if you buy an OS and get a free browser. I don't think the company should be forced to provide you with competitors products (free to download anyway) for competition sake. If something is included in my OS and it's useful, i'll use it (Internet Explorer), but if it's not i'll get something better on my own (i'm using Photoshop, not MS Paint for graphic design.)
um, how would they know if you were using it for voice or data? dialing is dialing. connected calls are connected calls. i can understand them charging for bandwidth if you're connected to them, downloading their content, but if you call someone else, and get their data, you should only pay for the minutes used to do so. that had to have been a salesman talking out of his ass. if not, you're right, that's the stupidest thing i've heard mobile service providers do in a long time.
Don't those really cheap lasers tend to be GDI printers i.e. Windows-only?
Apparently not the ML-1710. Supported by the trifecta, Windows, Mac, and Linux. There's a refurb @ www.newegg.com for $90. Betcha gotta buy your own USB cable, though. New retails for $136.00 there.
In a quote from Tony Goodhew, a product manager in Microsoft's developer group says 'It doesn't really matter how long it is going to take you to do the work; security is an important issue and developers need to start doing that work now.
Not to flame, cause i'm not like that, but c'mon!?!
Wayne's World has that great scene where Wayne, trying out the vintage Fender Stratocaster is stopped abruptly by the clerk, who points to the "No Stairway to Heaven" sign.
"What?! No Stairway?!? Denied!"
The idea is this song is so vastly performed by everyone trying their hand on a new axe, it's become redundant and painful for the guitar shop employees.
I can already see a "No Jerry McGuire" sign in countless movieoke bars.
And I'd love to hear the real reasons from everyone else aswell! Are they setting up for a counter-suit, dumb or in SCO/MS pockets?
to avoid the major inconvenience of all this
to 'impound... all Linux software products in the custody or control of Defendant through the pendency of these proceedings'
That could at least slow things down for a bit for a major player like CA. If no unlicensed property is found, they counter sue to get their cash back.
i don't think he was complaining about it being new, per se, but new to him, something that he doesn't already have plentiful. Most of us have an extra CF or two laying around, but SD or MMCs aren't as prevalent.
I wonder what search criteria XFree86million would return from msn.com? A message indicating i have entered a search term that is likely to return unethical content?
i really don't think that the former is something done intentionally by MS. Screwed up algorithim? Sure, that wouldn't suprise anyone. But yes, i read an article (bbc.co.uk) about how the miserable failure thing was created.
"Yes, Mr. Thomas, the data pulled from your 2005 Ford Mustang GT indicates that you were going 134 mph when you wrecked last night at 3:27am. Local weather reports show that it was raining, yet your wipers, as well as headlights were out. Our assumption is you were drunk. Claim denied."
C'mon, i wasn't trying to flame...
Seriously though. I preferred the first Matrix movie to the second, and the second to the third. I liked Win 95 better than 3.1, 98 better than 95, 2K better than 98, and now XP better than 2K. I think many would agree (i know many that do prefer 2K to XP, also though.)

not great, but still, better than nothing.

I wonder what folks will do with all the left over iPod minis and MuVo2s after they pull the drives for storage.
any ideas?

Pot to Kettle, "Guess who's black?"
Agreed on both points.
...So I taken the kaiser blade, some folks call it a sling blade, I call it a kaiser blade...
Crazy Train guitar solo = godly.
Or Mr. Crowley - that's good stuff.
That would be cool, maybe a bit of a downer at the bar, but cool nonetheless.

Like in Bad Company, starring Anthony Hopkins and Chris Rock.
I wonder what search criteria XFree86million would return from msn.com? A message indicating i have entered a search term that is likely to return unethical content?
Sure, it's only $85 million (i can't believe, i just typed that).
but there's $85M that microsoft will never see again.

You went searching for XFree86 and got back pr0n. I had a good day too. While you're at it, go to google and search for "miserable failure".
Oh those wacky guys and their search engines.
"SCO Postpones Lawsuit, Now Threatening Two
I read that as.
SCO Postpones Lawsuit, Now Threatening Tivo
Moving along, nothing to see here.
no wait. i thought that was registering your gun.
Yeah - I scoffed at the article. Then I read it and scoffed a bit more. Then i went and registered our two dogs. And you know you did the same thing.
Except in Madden 2004. Then it's the opposite.
