  1. Re:Guild Wars - The Next Gen Online RPG on Guild Wars Final Beta This Friday · · Score: 1

I have just been accepted into alpha (although still not in the game yet as we're waiting on the next start date for alpha testers) but I have been following this game for over a year and played all the betas.

    This game is unique.

    1. There is some leveling, but it comes cheap and easily. I actually wish they'd just drop the levelling out but I guess they want you to have some attachment to your character.

    2. There are battles as previously mentioned that have large numbers. Several teams of 8 fight against each other at once on the hall maps. I've heard rumors that at some point even larger battles will take place, however they're still balancing the smaller ones.

    3. This game is based more on skill than time spent, although that's slightly misleading. To gain all the skills you need you either have to spend a large amount of time searching for them, or have a large connection of friends who can help you aquire them. (This is something I want to see changed)

    4. It is a great game for a casual gamer as myself, I can jump on for an hour and make considerable progress either by completing a mission, levelling up, finding some skills, crafting, playing some fun PvP, etc.... It's very simple to jump in and jump out of the game.

    5. Yes, most of the game world aside from the cities/lobby areas are instanced. (I think this is a great thing thought) They're balanced for your group and level you should be at while still offering some challenge, I don't have to hear some 12 year old kid babble on and on about whatever, no kill stealing, etc... You go into a mission with a group of friends and go at it. That has been some of the most fun I've had gaming in a long time. Pickup groups can annoy me, but organized groups with friends who's gaming style you know can be great fun.

    5. Graphics are amazing and system specs low. This is one of the more beautiful games I've played and it looks great on a wide range of systems.

Thank you for letting us know exactly how you plan to bastardize this great game by making it have nothing to do with the game at all. You have told us that we all had expectations of how the film should be made, and even though you've removed them and now it's nothing at all like Doom it will still be a great game. To that, I say thank you. However, do allow me to let you know that I understand your expectations of how I will watch said film by paying 10 dollars at the local theatre. I had orinally planned on doing this, but as my involvement in said movie came along things slowly changed. Allow me to comfort you that even though I shall not be watching this movie the way you planned, you will still love it when I download it for free. Yours truly.

I downloaded the beta completely excited about playing and was soon disapointed. Their ex employees over at arena.net are doing a much better job with guildwars than they are with WoW. This was a little side by side I wrote for a message board I post on. Game Client size: WoW over 2 and a half gigs GW 65kb Advantage: GW Client Download times WoW 32 hours GW 15 seconds Advantage: GW Graphics: WoW Decent graphics but nothing to write home about GW I'm amazed every time I look at them, all the way down to the tiniest details Advantage: GW Storyline: WoW so far the only story I've discovered is killing innocent mining kobolds GW not amazing but a pretty detailed story to follow Advantage: a slight nod to GW Sounds: WoW beautiful music, good voice acting GW beautiful music, no voice acting Advantage a slight nod to WoW but only due to voice acting Gameplay: WoW lag out the wazoo. If you looted something, you couldn't attack another mob for about 2 minutes, combat seemed boring, just a point run up to attack and watch the battle unfold GW strategy based skill system, fast paced tough battles Advantage: GW Stability: WoW I've already mentioned the horrible lag problems and as we speak the servers are currently down and have been for about 4 hours now with no eta of when they'll be back up. GW some lag problems and I've seen the servers go down once, but they were back up within minutes. Advantage: No contest, GW kicks ass here. Funness factor: WoW: I was bored and have no plans to even really go back except possibly during the beta hoping it'll get funner. GW: I'm addicted, I can't wait for the next beta weekend Advantage: GW Price: WoW monthly fee GW no monthly fee Advantage: GW As you can see, there's no way I'd ever pay a monthly fee for a game that's probably the best traditional mmorpg out there right now when GW is so much better and cheaper. GW is tons more stable and more fun and they're months from launch. WoW launches in about a week.

I've been following it ever since E3 when it blew me away at such an early state. I've been following it closely for months since and it's evolved to even better game play. The PvP battles are fierce and the PvE is fun for once. No more sitting in front of my spell book meditating for 20 minutes while I fight for 5. I suggest everyone download the free 65k client and give it a try this weekend. Don't just buy into the, it's another diablo comments. 11. Guild Wars on DAoC To Ameliorate Level Grind With Giveaways · · Score: 1

The best MMO imo coming out will be Guild Wars. I've been following this game very closely since the E34E event. This game in an alpha build, blew my socks off. The game play is not dependent on levels or items so much (although they will be slightly) but much more on strategy. A new character should be able to beat a character that's got 5x's as much time spent in the game as him if the new character has better strategy. Of course, the game isn't released yet, so who knows if it'll live up to the hype. But with no monthly fee on top of all that, it looks great. Good pvp, good story, great graphics, the guys who left Blizzard. This game will be amazing. I'm convinced.

  12. Too many games offer hours of boring gameplay on Capturing Gaming Feel Not All About Complexity? · · Score: 3, Insightful

One of the main gripes with video games is that they aren't long enough. I hear this all the time from people. However, I hate it when I play a game and it makes me go through the dumbest hoops just to make the game longer. For example, I recently started playing Champions of Norrath. There's one level I just finished where you have to fight through this ant hill of giant ants until you get to the bottom and kill the boss queen ant that's plaguing the city. I must have killed ants for an hour just going around in a circle until I finally got to the end of the level and then had a tedious fight with this ant. All with no save areas in between. (Granted I could gate out and save at least.) I was so bored and I don't know how many times I screamed, how much further is this stupid thing. Same thing happened when I was trying to make my way through Lord Vanderhosts' castle in that same level. A game that does it right however is Knights of the Old Republic, which I'm also playing right now. I've already played for 11 hours on it (which is a lot for me) and haven't gotten bored once. The levels are laid out, at least so far, with common sense in mind. There's no intricate dungeon just for the hell of it. When you're in a base, it makes sense to be in the base and going through the rooms you're going through. I love this game, and haven't gotten annoyed with it even once. It's not overly difficult, but the story is amazing, and the gameplay is great. I'm not even sure I'll go through the hassle of finishing Champions of Norrath, but I'll play KoToR until my fingers bleed.

  13. MMORPG's don't require a monthly fee on Warhammer Online PC MMO Cancelled · · Score: 1

Check out Guild Wars for example. I played the alpha release during their E3 for Everyone event. They opened up their alpha version of game to everyone for about a week and it was amazing even at that early build. Their game will require no monthly fees. It's ex blizzard people and they've developed a new network design that will save tons so they will just release an expansion every 6 months or so to help cover the costs of this game. I for one am extremely hyped about this game and anyone who's into the MMORPG market should check it out. It's quite revolutionary in a few ways and if previous games by these designers are any clue, it will be amazing. Arena.net is proving to be just as good as they were when they were with Blizzard.

I agree with most of these statements. Most of the RPG's I've played have the monsters on screen, you see them, you fight them, you move on. I'm loving Final Fantasy X, the story is great, but I'm so sick and tired of walking to talk to someone that I can see on the screen, or to a save point and one step before I get there I fight some 6000 HP monster that takes 10 minutes to beat. Then I turn around for a second by accident, turn around again and fight the battle again. Let me see the monsters at least. If I have to fight them fine, but at least let me see that I have to fight them. Many times it's just feeling like game filler to me.
