While some do, they usually make use of a constantly running update check task. (Adobe, Java, etc) Some check when the program runs, which is a bit better, but if I need to use the program I don't want to spend time updating. I'd rather have one program checking all my apps and drivers and installing updates automagically at night.
...Windows will finally have an application manager that will auto update applications? InstallPad was an interesting idea that seemed to fall back into obscurity and hasn't been updated in years, and don't even get me started on the stupid BitComet (I think it's installed with BitComet, haven't used it in a long time) auto program updater.
Unless the Human Race spreads to other worlds, systems, and galaxies, we are dead as a species. The Universe is littered with the remains of races who never escaped their home solar system.
PC Rental Agent includes components soldered into the computer's motherboard or otherwise physically attached to the PC's electronics, the lawsuit said. It therefore cannot be uninstalled and can only be deactivated using a wand, the suit said.
Seriously, they had to go with a hardware/software solution, when they could have very easily done it in software only? And what does that do to the warranty from the original manufacturer, soldering new parts into your motherboard usually voids those.
Also, given the demographic of people who "Rent to Own", I'd hate to see some of those webcam shots...
Being a bit of a critic when it comes to acting/etc, I'd say the acting in this one is very good especially as they are trying to portray altered emotional states. Even the scenes of him experiencing pain are not over the top but come across as realistic. But mainly I wanted to reply since your the first comment to mention it being a dystopian future, which is what I feel describes it better than cyberpunk.
You misunderstand: I mean take my brain, still alive, and put it in a container capable of keeping it alive and connecting it to the 'net. Eventually I'd expect to be able to rent a cyborg body for those times when I need a physical presence in the world.
As some commentators have mentioned Ghost in the Shell, I will point to that as a reference work.
I don't want to die, so box my brain and let me live on the net. I'll even let you use all the wonderful subconscious processing power that is usually dealing with my autonomous functions.
Can they really call it a doctor? Don't get me wrong, I'd be super impressed if it works even 95% accurate for that many languages, but isn't this just a translation assistant that could be used in any number of other circumstances? I wouldn't be surprised if it's an offshoot of the military tech used for on the ground translation.
Personal pet peeve: if they can do this kind of interpersonal interface, where the hell is my personal assistant that does all my scheduling, pays my bills, and reorders my basic and favorite supplies? Despite all the good aspects of it, some things about divorce suck.
Sorry, was more referring to the popular movie/tv trope, not the actual experience we have now. Technology that comes of age can't really be separated from it's image in popular culture, and that's one thing that has always bothered me.
Or more precisely we will sell no piece of technology before it's time. Doesn't matter how long it's languished in obscurity, hackerdom, or both; only when it is time does it reach critical social mass. What's interesting is we're now getting several basic world/computer interfaces in a relatively short period of time, the i-phones and android phones are that format complete and headed into the realm of 70% of the population will own them in n amount of years. And now possibly the "pad" format traveling in it's own time of being the right time. Although you will never convince me it's going to be necessary to really swoop your arms to drag shit from one screen/device to another, I'm too fucking lazy for that.
At first I thought it should be "digressed even more" but then realized that the usage of digress is probably completely wrong and resolved not to think of such a niggardly issue.
That's what I immediately thought of too, especially since I remembered Sodium from the Monju incident. I'll leave it to others who know what the differences are exactly, but from my point of view it seems like the Thorium / Molten Salt is the reaction materials versus Sodium coolant in the Japanese reactor.
Man that video from Monju was creepy as hell, I'll have to dig it up and watch it again.
and nothing of value was lost....
The forgotten generation: Those who can still remember living and dying by the light of a list of numbers and three letters.

Thanks AC, I will definitely check out Secunia PSI. Anyone else want to chime in on it?

What are the effects of "towelling too forcibly"? Is it so horrible we can't even be told?

Even though it would be a huge personal sacrifice, I am willing to impregnate as many Japanese women as needed to reverse their birth dearth.
Dearth... who says that anymore? Funny word... dearth, dearth, dearth.

Your absolutely correct, and you're example was superb. Now bugger off.
And what's wrong with saying "before it is time"? Makes perfect sense to me.
