Neither the consumer, nor anyone anyone else, have a right to know anything. It's up to the individual to decide who and what to trust, that being no one until you have reason to do so(see "skepticism"). I applaud Sony's unsuccessful attempt at deceit for making the process that much easier.

  4. YouTube resolution gives me a headache on Azureus' HD Videos Attempt To Trump YouTube · · Score: 1

Not sure why everyone thinks this is a guaranteed failure. All it needs to get going is money. All it needs to stay going is a userbase whose content needs to be viewed in higher quality than youtube can provide, and maybe even HD.

Has no one here ever stopped a youtube video after a few seconds NOT because they deemed the content uninteresting, but because the quality was just too piss poor?

As far as bandwidth is concerned, one poster already mentioned that downloaders need not diligently maintain a minimum 1.0 ratio. They need only ease the burden and let Zudeo money cover the gap. I would even support monitoring users ratio like most good bittorrent sites do. People are more than eager to upload on such sites.

There's video out there without a home. Zudeo should at least be a good halfway house.

  12. Re:I would never use Blockbuster on Blockbuster's Offensive Against Netflix Flops · · Score: 1

Those two forum links just one or two users posting that blockbuster censors and the about.com link just says they won't stock NC-17 titles. One forum comment even says:

"Except, I have received at least three different censored movies, they had bleeps in place of the audio through out an R rated movie. I've only had Netflix for about 2 months and most of them were near the begining. I came quite close to cancelling the subscription for this reason. Could these be disks that belonged to Walmart's online renting service that Netflix bought?"

That comment relates to censorship from a netflix rented movie, but it is still a reasonable explanation for how something like that could happen, if that ever happened at all.

Otherwise most user comments on that forum said that BB/Netflix censoring was completely false. I think you got that idea because people described both services as censoring, but really meant that their policy is to not stock NC-17 movies or certain unrated/directors cuts period. Only one user said BB actually had custom edited versions, and claimed it was in the days of previous managment, likely before DVDs.

  13. Re:PeerFlix on Blockbuster's Offensive Against Netflix Flops · · Score: 1

PeerFlix costs 99 cents per DVD plus shipping. The example in your link put shipping at $1.20. At $2 per DVD, plus one of your own, this service will only beat netflix/BB if you are only watching 5-7 dvds per month. That keeps it under $15/mo, approximately the Netflix/BB fee.

Everyone wants to protect their economy, but sometimes you have to adapt to change instead of resist it. Further opposite extremes would be embracing change (aka growth) and preventing it by force. We know which the old conservatives of the world choose. Old dogs just don't like new tricks.

I say it's way past time Canada and the rest of the world told the US to go fuck itself.
If people in this world weren't so oversensitive you could say just that and it would be very effective. Instead people tip-toe around the issue and sugar coat and diplomatize to the point where a hegemon doesn't realize they've overstepped their bounds. The headline "Canada: Fuck off USA" would be like a shot to the jaw, it would knock a little sense into the politicians.
