I am still waiting for barlcaycard (a UK cc company) to refund a fraudulent charge for £500. I have been their customer for 15 years and do not fall behind on my payments and have never had fraud on my account, yet they still havent taken this off my account 3 months later - they are still "looking into it".
I have been following this with interest. My only concern about this excellent project however is if using Haskell limits the potential developer base that might contribute.
The mailing lists are amusing. Eugenia also manages to cause problems by trying to get a gnome theme changed but gets the wrong person to change the wrong theme.
She is the class of computer user who has just enough knowledge to be a pest but not enough to be useful.
ahh I have a few old sites lying around that I try not to talk about..now I am like a reformed smoker telling everyone to quit:-)
I see you are having fun trying new things currently. You could use opacity or moz-opacity css for your loading box, i thought it might give you a better look and more flexibility (you can use a pic if you want).
It is POPULARITY thats graphed there - not usage, or demand.
I would love to see an equivalent graph that does graph the demand for languages over the last few years as it really would help me plan my future, whereas peoples fads could be a more dangerous (though more fun) trend to follow.
And you pay tax on the money you earned that you used to buy the computer stuff:-)
We are taxed to the hilt wherever possible, this isnt that unusual.
the government gives me fuck all wrt computing.
and the billions they get from stamp duty, tax on petrol etc. etc. dont get you anything back in those areas either.
If you bear in mind that you are supposed to pay tax on chip fat you have converted to diesel fuel then you will realise there is nothing unusually bizarre in taxing computers.
The reason there are so many taxes is to hide the true amount we spend in taxes, if the common man realised how much they are really paying in taxes there would be an uprising.
Still I suppose we have entire generations of benefit claimants to support who cant be arsed working and other small costs like billions spent to kill foreigners, the money has to come from somewhere.
Can you even play in a mode (in single player) where you can see your own character, if not then its totally irrelevant what sex they are supposed to be.
I use PHP across a whole bunch of websites, including version 5 - how is it anything like java? Maybe I'm missing the obvious, but all the 'old' scripts I have still work pretty good - without stopping any browser for 15 seconds (java) while it does its thing.
Java is not only something that runs as an applet in your browser - its a programming language that can run server side too, ever heard of JSPs or tomcat?
Similarly did they sense the impending attack of Iraq since a hundred thousand people at least have been killed there.
What about the millions that were killed in africa, not even a blip I assume since its not mentioned in the article.
Its clear by their omissions of regular other atrocities and disasters that whats happened is that these people have connected coincidental random fluctuations to meaningful events in the same way as man has done since the dawn of time.
I agree those are good solutions, the problem is that keys are issued by different people, the apartment I rent, my keys for where I work, my car keys are all the way they are because of the purchasing choices of the people involved and I end up carrying the ragtag bunch of different keys around with me all with different shapes etc.
Your credit card idea has actually been invented I think, tbh though credit cards arent so much of a problem to me though - keys are my main bugbear as they poke me when I sit down and jangle when I walk.
Thats a good question, it depends if you are trying to demonstrate some kind of algorithm, user interface etc.. what it is will affect the best way to do it. The poster doesnt say hes doing a comp sci course so the other thing I would say is spend some time learning software development principles such as proper design, commenting, documentation, versioning and such things. These things are helpful even when you are the only developer.
You have to change your system settings to play a game then there is something wrong with the game.
Doom was a clear case of them getting a hard on for a feature (in this case lighting) and ruining the game to ensure people get to see their lighting (or lack of it). Tomb raider did the same thing, in one game they had some kind of flares that lara could use, surprise surprise the same game had many annoying pitch dark rooms.
theres the thing, £40 is CHEAP (ish!) here, just because it equates to a lot of dollars doesnt mean its expensive it just means that dollars are not worth very much.
I wish you dealt with my CC!

Dude, whoever built and looks after your computer is doing a really shitty job of it

Maybe they did a statisical analysis and discovered that IDF members who liked D&D didnt kill enough children or even civilians in general.
Obviously this would make them unsuitable for the role.

Tip:
when you are critisizing some sites lack of HTML validator compliance first ensure your own piss poor (validation wise i mean) site is actually correct!

And also routers that can do this? Its a cool feature that i'd like to have but dont want to switch to macs

To highlight that a breast is of more concern in modern day america than nuclear problems.
er.. you are wrong on almost every count.
where do you get 8g from? I think that was the estimated amount of matter converted to energy.
Oh and dirty bombs are just a scare tactic conjured up by our western governments, they probably wouldnt kill anyone.

are you a clone of CrazyJim0 ?
I have only heard of him via slashdot.
It seems you were born magically imbued with knowledge but the rest of us actually appreciate receiving information.

Build a mobile phone and pda in it and then my pockets wont be so full.
:(
Theres still the thorny problem of my keys and wallet though

whatever the figure is it is many times the 3-4k that died in the WTC.
For that matter how many troops has bush sent to their death to invade a foreign country, not far off 2000.
"If we convert 40 UK pounds to US dollars.."

Have you thought through what would happen if you were imprisoned?
Would your house and job still be there? your wife?
Good luck getting a decent job too.
As another poster stated corps get all the advantages, they can do horrific things and carry on trading.
beep beep beep.. defensive php user detected...
;-)
I never mentioned the merits of php/perl only that there are weenies who take the whole thing too seriously
